Keeneland Opening Day, THOUGHTS...

R2- Marks the return of a few nice horses Hull should have the edge with a huge win over synthetics.

R8-Krypton

R9-Macias should be able to rate right off 2 others and get first jump on Clement, might get a price with Clement and Romans looking strong.

NTamm1215 03-30-2010 01:15 PM

Just based on the entries that has to be one of the worst Keeneland spring opening days ever.

I already scanned the PPS, its really bad. The maiden races seem to lack that Keeneland feel, you know the big pedigrees....

the_fat_man 03-30-2010 01:20 PM

Yeah, the BIG pedigrees do a lot for my win %.

Nice to see the 4.5F races are back. Then again, WO leads off with one as well. Time to rewrite some code.

Well I think ROI is all that matter and Wes Ward will be about 4-5 in there and Steve will be about 9-5, so I doubt your making much in that spot.

Alan07 03-30-2010 01:35 PM

Brutal

I know that. I just think that anything < 5F or > 12F really has no place in racing today.

NTamm1215 03-30-2010 01:41 PM

I wonder if the Wesley Ward Woodbine invasion is only for the two weeks or so where all they run are 4.5-5f races. Those are his speed.

randallscott35 03-30-2010 02:13 PM

They are waiting for the big money at Monmouth

Castanon is there also which I thought was weird. 70k maidens and the canada/us exchange is even. Pretty serious pots up there

the_fat_man 03-30-2010 02:26 PM

The 5F races at WO are about as close as it gets to a bias up there, typically favoring speed (or the chaser). If I were Ward, I'd have a string up there, as well as at MTH. Of course, a 'bias' at WO shouldn't be confused with what happens at MTH or AQU inner (or even GP); you have to earn it up there.

Krypton and Macias will not be chalk, how do they not bet Clement to chalk in the turf race?

Who's gonna be the favorite in Krypton's race then, if not him?

And Macias will be second choice at best. Baffert gets pounded whenever he ships east and the horse has the best BSF in the field.

NTamm1215 03-30-2010 04:52 PM

I think Krypton is definitely going to be favored and I think Macias is highly likely to be favored.

I guess he has to be chalk, the group is shitty.

Thats a strong opinion.

philcski 03-30-2010 08:24 PM

My initial thought:

This card blows.

Arletta 03-30-2010 09:31 PM

I see they have decided to not continue their contest this year either :(

Alan07 03-30-2010 10:07 PM

It was a good contest back when you had to pick every race.

i should have said to win. he can hit the board. but i dont see how he can rate and either run down lost aptitude or hold off nordic truce and the other closers.

his two turn races havent really been his better efforts.

I also don't automatically buy the 95 he got for the Pasadena. Alfarabi had an 8-9 point jump off his previously consistent top to run third despite having no new advantage from a trip standpoint IMO. If Macias is higher than 2-1, I'll be surprised, and to me he's the third or fourth likeliest winner.

JerseyJ 03-31-2010 12:36 AM

I don't see how the Clement isn't going to be a deserving favorite here if he is the favorite, and if not even better. There is a real abundance of speed in this race to set the race up for that horse, who has shown himself to be very professional in winning his first two races so far. Should get a great setup and looks to have some talent as well.

johnny pinwheel 03-31-2010 08:16 AM

Any Thoughts? yeah. i used to love that track now its about as good as finger lakes

hoovesupsideyourhead 03-31-2010 02:01 PM

ellis?

RockHardTen1985 04-02-2010 03:17 PM

The 2 is crushed in doubles over Macias.

booner 04-02-2010 04:11 PM

Game effort from Strike the Tiger. 22.3 and 45.4 battle with Macias but hangs tight for a piece.

He ran a terrific race.

With how beautiful it looked there, I don't doubt it.

It is ridiculously awesome in the Midwest today. Chicago it is 80 degrees, breezy.

Puts ya in a good mood after what was a rough week.

Left Bank 04-02-2010 08:36 PM

What I don't like about Keeneland is their inclusion of maiden claiming races. This is supposed to be a meet for some of the best horses in the country. Why they wish to cheapen their racing cards with such refuse is a mystery.Plenty of opportunity for those at Churchill.

Princess Doreen 04-02-2010 09:14 PM

Gorgeous day ar Keeneland today. Stayed until the end of the 6th race. It was a zoo exiting out of the place. Hit two nice trifectas and won my money back plus a few $$'s on the two Smarty J. entries. Will be there tomorrow.

What? They write races for the horses they have. They can't card all allowance and stakes races if they're not gonna fill.

Out of the 150+ races they will run at the meet 7 are maiden claimers, and 2 of the 7 are maiden claiming 100k.
