Tampa Bay..Grunder

Is there another racecaller out there who mangles the names of the horses during his race calls more than this guy?

I love betting the big fields there and waiting for another gem from him on a daily basis.

My favorite of all time was a few weeks/months ago when he called
Ballast

Ball assed

there was another beut over the weekend by I cant remember it right now

randallscott35 03-08-2010 11:08 AM

Even better when he calls the winner in midstretch only to have that horse overtaken at the wire...happened twice in the last month.

NoLuvForPletch 03-08-2010 03:30 PM

saturday 2/27, Race #5...

you have got to be kidding me? Not only did the horse he said "would take them start to finish" get caught, but he ran 3rd...

too much

Make "almost every pole a winning one."

He does like to call the winners really early.

PeteMugg 03-08-2010 04:49 PM

The more I hear Grunder, the better Battaglia gets.

At least Grunder is entertaing, gets you a bit excited during the race (ok so sometimes he prematurely calls races), but he's 100x better than that mono-tone boring guy you are refering to that makes the same boring call of a race, every race, every day.
Instead of water boarding prisioners they should just but Battaglia on a loop.

Opening day 2007.... First race - there's a horse called Ecclesiastic Cat (or something very similar, perhaps Bigs can recall) Our boy completely butchers the things name 15 SECONDS into the meet....

A record I'm sure will stand for decades

jrajf 03-10-2010 07:58 AM

I don't remember the horse's name, but I do remember it was a 1 1/16th race and he botched the name before they got to the wire for the first time. Less than a 1/16th of a mile into the meet.

That said, I have nothing but love for Richard Grunder.

I think it was the double header day last year when we saw him downstairs in the simulcast area about 15 seconds after calling the last race. It was at that moment when my love for everything Grunder skyrocketed:{>: :{>:

I Don't blame him, even Byk could butcher a name like that.

most of us announcers are actually punting sooner than that, atleast the ones who have machines up in the press box!!

When they were entering the stretch, he said, "Odysseus will have to wait for another day."

Nice assumption, schmuck.

Well, it's not like he was pronouncing it right, anyway.
