Team USA is getting owned but Ryan miller is a complete stud
|
it's an almost meaningless game but 4-2 on the powerplay goal?
sweet! |
sidenote: live olympics > taped olympics
|
u.s. looks weak shorthanded. 1:54 played almost entirely in their zone before the score. good goal play but 4-3.
|
ridiculous. canada should win. they have to get it out.
miller has so many saves. |
pulled the goalie and u.s scores.
|
u.s. gets a day off and canada gets germany.
|
Miller was awesome. Kesler and Kane had a very strong games as well.
|
OMG what a game. It felt like the juniors all over again. I swear I thought they were going to OT. Miller was unbelieveable and that goal by Kessler was ridiculous. Nothing would make me happier than to see Canada lose to Germany and get knocked out. I don't know why, but all of a sudden I have all this animosity to Canada. I'm not sure where it came from, I think something about the way they heckled the US kids at the juniors. But I would rather see the Russians win the gold over the Canadiens. But a great night for the U.S. even though they were outplayed for most of the night.
|
They were dominated all night but miller was just amazing. Germany cannot beat Canada they will get smoked.
This next game should be really good too. I think the fins can upset. They play real hard. |
Caught the end of it .... good game.
|
watched the whole thing, it was amazing. canadians outshot them, but usa got the numbers where it mattered. thank goodness for rafalski and miller, who looked fantastic-much better than brodeur.
|
Was shocked broduer made that baseball bat mistake. Probably best goalie to ever play and he makes a mistake like that.
Miller was sublime, rafalski is a stud. 42-22 shots |
the loss means canada probably plays russia in the quarter finals.
that makes it a bigger loss for canada than the win was for the u.s. i wouldn't put a bronze for the u.s. out of reach. at some point you have to ignore paper talent and look how they're actually playing. sweden/russia/u.s. |
Canada/USA/fins

all the goals were i ugly ones on the half of the US, i loved it. They know they dont have the skill and speed to run and gun with those guys. Good old fashion hockey right there. Nothing like beating canada.....in canada, go drink your molson and feed your pet beaver eh -bt- |

It really was great hockey and limited commercials made the pace seem that much faster. Obviously thrilled with the results, but Brodeur played soft and stupid and Miller on fire so taking it with a grain of salt. Still would be amazed if they can get a bronze. Although the hitting was tough, there still seems to be a level of respect among all the NHL guys not to go too crazy. Wait until we start playing the Russians, etc with half NHL and half Club players. Those Club guys won't give a crap about who they hit or what they do to them.
And how about the Canadians doing a Three Stooges and all running into each other..that was classic:tro: |

that was pretty funny... reading this am that brodeur should have been pulled. it was a fantastic game, edge of your seat type play. only bad thing was the play by play guy, i don't care for doc. i have a feeling it's going to be russia winning the thing, but i'd LOVE to see the u.s. pull it off. |
Canada 96
Germany 1 |

I do think that since he is allowed to handle the puck more (because of olympic rules), actually hurts him because it's something he doesn't get to do anymore and he is excellent at it. But he does it so much that, it seemed last night he was always scrambling trying to get back into position and I believe it cost him on at least one goal. I not a big Emrick fan either, but I think him and Eddie O did a good job last night. I enjoyed the game/telecast very much (but the outcome probably had a big thing to do with that). Also for the most part last night except for the late penalty against the U.S., the refs did a good job letting them play. |
I like Eddie O as an analyst, though I laughed out loud when he said this is "tremendously tremendous" late in the game. :tro:

Marty played as poorly as he could have. Hard to yank him in favor of Loungo, but another game like that and its over.
Germany is in trouble 96-1 may be a little light bob. Over under on Canada is 100 Team USA is probably the fourth best team talent wise in the tournament. Canada and the Russians, and the Sweds are probably better but they are pansies. If they get bronze they did well, silver will be unreal. Gold I think is out of the question after watching them play yesterday. Shoulda been 7-1 |

I agree with you assesment of the US talent wise. Any medal would be a huge accomplishment (especially if Canada ends up off the board). You would think that they just don't have the firepower to stay up with those other teams, but like I said a hot goalie can carry you a far way. I'm looking foward to their next game, hopefully they will medal. |
I thought the US looked extremely slow. If Tim Thomas played, any other goalie for that matter they get waxed. For the record I like Tim Thomas but that was a lot of shots to face.
I couldn't believe Nash missed that open net, I don't know how he did it. He shot the puck directly into Miller. To me Canada looked like they were on a powerplay whenever the Heatly line was on the ice. Team usa was putting no pressure on the puck with that particular line. Anytime that line was on the ice I was holding my breath. Not only did they keep steady pressure on the US, the US couldn't even gain the line against them. Team USA needs to fix that powerplay, and quick. They had a very difficult time establishing any kind of flow in the offensive zone. WHen they did they forced everything and it was quickly cleared. As for pinning goals on Broduer....To me hes just much better than that. He got caught out of position twice, both times diving, or lunging at the puck. I don't know if hes gotten caught twice like that in his entire career. Not that I can remember. I also thought team USA looked lost in their defensive zone. Their D is big and slow and thats not going to cut it unless Miller continues to play like the best to ever draw a breath |
Anyone watch the Sweden-Fin game? Haven't had a chance to read about it yet.
|
Watched the entire game. Sweden dominated them. Kiprosoff played well or it would have been 100 to zero. I had Finland picked to do something, after that they are out of the equation. I was impressed with the Swiss against America, and against the Canadians. They looked much better than Finland

i'd be SHOCKED if they ride marty from here on out. Its Luigi's net to lose now, and if they lose its over. Marty was his usual self last night, overhandled the puck, and his swat out of mid air cost him a goal against singled handley. I'm sure Yzermen is pissing in babcock's ear about the switch, HOF or not, the guy is not as sharp as he once was, and letting him play out of pride and the fact that this is gonna be his last olympics is gonna cost the canadian a chance to medal. that and the fact that they have a 2nd year guy like drew doughty out there over the likes of robyn regehr, jay bouwmeester, and mike green. -bt- |

Funny you mention Doughty. I really like the kid, but is it me or did it seem he was on the ice the entire game (especially in the 3rd period)? |
