Ah.. Another enlightened leader of the "New South"

SC Lt. Governor's welfare comments draw fire

COLUMBIA, S.C. – When things looked their darkest for Gov. Mark Sanford — when he was in danger of being impeached for running off to Argentina to see his mistress — his best insurance policy may well have been South Carolina's lieutenant governor, Andre Bauer. Lawmakers knew if they removed Sanford, they would end up with Bauer, a fiercely ambitious Republican with a reputation for reckless and immature behavior. Now Bauer has folks shaking their heads again, after he likened government assistance to the poor to feeding stray animals.

At a town hall meeting Thursday, Bauer, who is running for governor in his own right now that Sanford is term-limited, said: "My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed! You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that."

Ah another example of using one idiots off the cuff remark to knock an entire group. Do we need to start posting John Edwards quotes as an example of the "liberal South"?

You guys hate all Dems so why bother postiong any quotes. At least Dems can distinquish between the useful cons and the useless cons.

dellinger63 01-26-2010 08:53 AM

I would simply replace stray animals with politicians (Both R,D and I) and would have thought his grandmother to be a wise woman instead of a heartless, rich, biatch.

Didn't Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have something equally as ignorant to say about the NY Jewish community?

Dems have plenty of cons to distinguish right in their own party

DerbyCat 01-26-2010 10:18 AM

I'm not sure stupid comments are exclusive to any political party, ethnic group or ones financial status... Forrest Gump said it best, "Stupid is as stupid does".

Stupid is just stupid and there's plenty of it to go around.

what about the governor? you know the guy that was MIA and in another country. this guy is the reason that sanford is still governor. i remember living down there during my navy days. its about as "fixed" as it gets, makes ny look innocent. the biggest joke is they are so dumb and poor that most of them qualify for the same programs that he belittles ,yet they vote for a guy like this. the interview is hilarious, he got his "wisdom" from his grandmother that he admits was ignorant in the same sentance. and its true because when i lived down there the illiteracy rate in charleston county was the highest in the country! then idiots come here and justify it with "the democrats do the same thing so that makes it all right". thats the problem in a nut shell, half the people on both sides have to go and go quick or we are screwed. they can start with these two crooked jack asses in south carolina...people there can't read, eat right or have half of their teeth...lets compare them to stray animals and we actually pay these morons...oh yeah, great country!

If you're the guy getting his wallet emptied by the Democrat, you tend to hate them. If you're the other guy, getting a check because of the Democrat, I guess you'd think well of them.

When the number of people who like the Democrat because of the checks remains over 50%, it's pretty much over guys...

agree but when you have a health care bill presented largely to save money by requiring insurance for all American citizens and still allow Illegals to use the emergency room as their primary care doctor with no ramifications I'd argue we are already there or at least closer than many realize or will admit.

Hey Rand, you do realize that your thinking that the North is more open minded than the South does not equate to the North being less racist, right?

Yes, the two things aren't the same. By the way, I love the South, it's coming along. I was moving to VA as of a few years ago...

Likes it there but when you are settling down in this economy you keep the jobs you have.

randallscott35 01-26-2010 03:19 PM

I would also say, from family who has lived in both, they believe the north is actually more racist....which is why I used open minded, not racist.

hoovesupsideyourhead 01-26-2010 04:07 PM

not this far south..its a bit more..

2MinsToPost 01-26-2010 05:55 PM

Tell ya one thing I don't see hardly any inter-racial couples down here in Florida like I did in Ohio.

The south seems like the south right now to me, especially in SC, South Georgia and Florida.

Danzig 01-26-2010 05:56 PM

i've lived on both coasts, and both in the north and south. open mindedness isn't based on geography, believe me. for anyone to assume everyone in south carolina feels as the lt gov, just because he spouted some absolutely ridiculous crap would be incorrect. there is stupidity, racism, etc everywhere. all you can do is decide if you want to engage in it yourself, and whose company you keep.

Nothing wrong with that quote, it's mostly true. I'm sick and tired of my tax dollars supporting those women who have 5 kids from 5 different fathers. No job to boot.

And that was the end of it.

Andre Bauer will help the current Republican party achieve their rightful place in national politics.

I'm tired of hearing how Democrats are the party of "empty the wallet". It's simply not true. It's fantasy. Look at the actual government spending since Kennedy. The Republicans have increased spending and deficit more than Democrates each and every time. The facts speak for themselves.
