An unfunny joke

Charles Woodson is DPOY? Really? Even after he got completely embarrassed and exposed along with the rest of the Packer defense on Sunday? Even considering the piles of sh it he had to face this year compared to what Revis faced? What a f ucking embarrassment by the AP. Note to Rex: in order to get Revis DPOY, tell him to stop worrying about covering people. Don't worry about tackling people. Instead, just rush the quarterback and try to strip the ball at all costs. THAT'S HOW YOU MAKE IMPACT PLAYS, BABY!

F uck Charles Woodson and the "well I heard of him before this year so he gets it" f ucking voters.

randallscott35 01-12-2010 11:03 AM

The anti NY bias strikes again.

Bigsmc 01-12-2010 11:16 AM

Waaaaah.

Do you really care this much about awards Joey? Revis may have a monetary gain by being named, but other than that, I doubt he cares. Sportswriters and Broadcasters voted. They're all clowns.

All they have to do is poll the players and coaches.....

Sports awards, including our beloved Eclipse Awards are a joke.

Let it go Joey. Although it is BS, you/they have bigger fish to fry. If anything maybe Rex will try to use this to fire them up even more (not that you should have to be motivated at this point). But how the Jets get no respect, while pointing to the line and the snub that Revis got.
Unfortunately for Revis, it's tough to accumulate stats when they don't throw to your side of the field.

Nah, ultimately it's meaningless of course, but what gets me is that they're rewarding Woodson for being an all-or-nothing highlight hungry douchebag while Revis quietly eliminates Andre Johnson, Moss twice, Owens twice, Ochocinco twice, Steve Smith, Reggie Wayne, Marques Colston, etc etc every week.

The Jets are still playing while Woodson's jerking off into his award so that's what matters to me, but it'd be nice if the best season by a corner since Deion was recognized more by these idiots. FFS, Woodson got TWICE as many votes.

Exactly. Byrd should win Defensive ROY but who cares because the Bills went 5-11 for like the 11th straight year. Awards are stupid.

jms62 01-12-2010 01:01 PM

Revis may have had the best year Evah at his position. Any team playing the Jets basically had to count their best receiver out of their gameplan. And he continued into the playoffs. Not a Jets fan by any stretch but I do not remember any player dominating his position like Revis did this year.

Scav 01-12-2010 01:03 PM

Personally, I could care less about these awards, even if a Bear were to win them, but when you hold the WR's that Revis has held to under 38 yards, or whatever the stat is, well, that is even MVP worthy, let alone these hilarious awards. I am sure Ateam has the WR's that he completely stopped, the list is amazing

Crown@club 01-12-2010 01:32 PM

Love this quote:
"Remember Woodson also beat Peyton Manning for the Heisman, so he has a long and storied history of robbing deserving players out of postseason honors."

Rex Ryan Summary:
"For those of you that voted for Revis, I commend you for knowing Football."
"I want to let you know one number, and that is 8. No its not the number of TDs that GB gave up on Sunday. Its the number of TDs our defense gave up in the air all season."

Actually it might be 30 yds. I was reading the numbers were somewhere a total of 482 yds for the season against Revis. Now thats amazing.

Chad Ochocinco* 2 catches 28 yards

Scav 01-12-2010 03:38 PM

To me, the most impressive on that list is Andre Johnson and Reggie Wayne, they guys catch 10-12 balls a game for 120+.....

brianwspencer 01-12-2010 03:45 PM

Revis is obviously a superior shutdown cornerback, though my panties aren't particularly ruffled by this one...just as they wouldn't be if the award had gone the other way to Revis instead of Woodson.

slotdirt 01-12-2010 03:53 PM

It's not like an argument can't be made for both.

Andre Johnson is the stud of that group.

Did Wayne come out of the game when Manning got pulled in the 3rd quarter? I didn't watch that game.

I'm not sure, but it really doesn't matter. With the amount of pressure Painter was under, I could have shut down Reggie Wayne.

Yo Kanye have you see any packers game! Without charles woodson the packers defense would be lost. He was the heart and soul of that defense! I'm not even a packer fan but I live in wisconsin and saw all the games. He had an unbelievable season. Check the stats and also take into consideration how long he has been in the league. Big deal they lost to arizona, mine you without al harris who also is one of the best corners. As for your jets talk you got a gift from the colts who gave you a game. The pats beat you up the second time and we are still the best team in the division. Sorry to tell you, as much as I hate phil the cry baby rivers, your season ends this week. When its done go call up kanye and whine with him! I can send you some cheese if you want!

If you're older than 12, then, well, that sucks.

"Sorry to tell you" your team is home licking its wounds after getting decapitated by the 6-seed, you're not the best anything in anything. Get used to being done this early, frontrunner. Run along.

nebrady 01-13-2010 02:11 PM

I'm much older than that! But come to think of it, 12 might be your iq! Can't wait to play you overrated jets next year. New england will reload and win the division again! So we lost big deal. Without welker it would have been hard to go any further. Can't wait for the bolts to fry you sunday! The jets go down crash and burning! Only good thing about jets, is that if it wasn't for your hit on bledsoe, brady might never have gotten a chance to play. Go CHARGERS!

You're just mad because you have to find a new NFL team to root for now.

He robbed Peyton of the Heisman too BTW.

Stop talking to him, he needs to concentrate on getting the GP 7-9 pick 3 up on his blog and he's running out of time.

Yeah ... Manning sure proved how outstanding he was in college when he played mediocre ball as a rookie and Tee Martin won the National Championship for Tennessee the following year. You know ... national championship .. the title Peyton couldn't sniff.

Meanwhile Moss was the only major addition to the '98 Vikings ... a team that finished in 3rd place with a 9-7 record in the NFC "Norris Division" was single handedly transformed into a 15-1 team that shattered the NFL's all-time record for points scored in a season. Moss broke a slew of rookie records that still stand today.

But yeah ... snow shoes Manning was robbed because he eventually developed into a mind-bogglingly awesome NFL qb.

Nevermind that none of the Moss Marshall games were even broadcast on national tv ... ESPN didn't even show the highlights of Marshall's football games on Sportscenter 99% of the time.

It's not so much the huge bias against sophomores and wide recievers that existed .. it's the simple fact that almost no one could justify casting a vote for Moss because they couldn't even see his teams highlights.

Manning had to develop. Moss didn't. He was the most highly regarded high school athlete of my lifetime.

ateamstupid 01-13-2010 03:17 PM

You really think that Moss is going to be forgotten? Ever?

In a thread about Revis being the best thing and getting "robbed" of any award by a guy who statistically wiped the floor with him? That's kind of rich.

 yeah he statistically wiped the floor with him. That's kinda easy to do when you don't actually have to cover anyone and you go for the ball every play instead of trying to tackle someone, while the other guy is so goddam good that he causes incompletions on 63% of the passes thrown his way and never needs to be sent at the quarterback. Free safeties get more tackles and INTs than D-Linemen, does that make them better defenders? I don't ever recall Reggie White or Bruce Smith getting attacked for only "doing one thing" yet Revis is docked points for not being needed to roam like Woodson? Go ahead again and look at the receivers Revis faced. He fu cking dominated everyone he played and he was by far the biggest reason for the Jets having by far the best pass defense in the NFL. But I guess allowing your defense to send a billion people at the QB thus creating the league's best pass defense and shutting down half of the field doesn't mean as much as "stats." Well here you go: QBs had a 32.3 rating when they threw at Revis. Woodson is third at 51.8. Revis broke up almost three times as many passes as Woodson. Woodson gave up 5 TDs to Revis's 2 (one was on a 4-yard slant that no one could've defended). Woodson was penalized twice as much as Revis. Give me a fu cking break. We saw what Woodson is about in that Cardinal game. He falls down on one TD, gets blown up by Fitzgerald on another and then gives up 15 yards of crucial field position in the final seconds by stripping instead of tackling. While Revis routinely eliminates the QB's binkie, creating a ripple effect in the opponent's pass offense. Oh and he owns Moss. Owns him. Take that "statistically wiped the floor" sh it somewhere else. Revis may have had the best season a CB has ever had while Woodson does what he always does: makes a highlight or gets burned. Woodson had a good year, Revis had a great one.

I wonder if this is how people who think either Rachel or Zenyatta could win HOY without having a real opinion feel when someone goes off the deep end about why one or the other is far superior and feel the need to disparage the other one despite the fact that they had a sensational season?

Shutdown corner against whom you can make a plan B once he takes away your top receiver vs. sensational defensive all-arounder for whom you can't make a plan B.

It was a toss up. You lost.

Game over. Woodson won.

A player who never makes a mistake and shuts down half the field vs. a player who will make an important play once in a while but will blow important plays as well.

Why was it a toss up if Woodson "wiped the floor" with Revis statistically?

Oh god, sorry for the double post, but your homerism is showing.

I will remember this in case the term "falls down" comes up again in any of our interactions, I will automatically edit it to "gets pummeled by Larry Fitzgerald" in one of the most flagrant and important non-calls of the season.

A bulldozer could make Woodson "fall down" right there too, it wouldn't make him a bad corner.

Christ.

Because, is the defensive player of the year the one who is the best shutdown corner or the one who is the best overall player for the year?

See, that's why I'm in the Rachel camp in the HOY debate, and it's strangely apt here, since you're basically saying that being awesome at one thing (beating boys in the Classic) should trump being a terror in everything defensively (being a terror all year long).

That's why it's a toss-up. You care about a guy playing in New York being the best shutdown corner in the league. I don't particularly care for whom you root when trying to figure out which guy I think is deserving. I see the argument for both, but your absolutism is so off-putting I'm learning to love Woodson and his Packer Green all over again...and by all over again, I mean for the very first time, I since I kind of hate him considering he's on the Packers.
