Matching up TCU and Boise State in the BCS. Classic maneuvering. Last thing anyone there wants is both the WAC and Mountain West winning a BCS game and beating a Big 10/Big 12/SEC/ACC team this year. Especially cheap considering these teams played each other in a bowl game last year in the Holiday Bowl. They both got shafted big time. They get the money so noone can complain about it I guess.

The thing is that TCU can beat any team in the country right now including either of the teams in the title game.

This is exactly why college basketball kicks the piss out of college football and always will until there's a playoff.

As the lower levels of college football are working their way through their respective playoffs, these clowns are sending any team with 6 wins to an endless parade of meaningless Weedeater Bowls. Save those precious bowls for the teams that don't make the playoffs and get a playoff going.

It's the only sport (FBS only) in the NCAA that does not have a playoff. There is no logical reason for them not to have a football playoff. None.

This is such a frustrating subject.

I like the Bowl system right now. It gives morons the opportunity to b.itch and moan about their obscure team in a s.hit conference going undefeated and getting the shaft.

A playoff would shut them up and quite frankly it's too much fun watching them whine with delusions of grandeur rather than whine because they got smashed by a big conference team for all the marbles.

If you need a reference for this look up the past champions in basketball. The majority of years it is a major conference school cutting down the nets.

But at least a bunch of teams had the actually opportunity to win a title.

It is why I haven't watched a single college football game at all this year, it is retarded, but I guarantee you that if they were to go to a playoff, I would watch intently.

You would have to shorten the season to 10 games + conference championship and then an elite eight. And at that point you would still have people b.itch and moan.

I ain't scurrd . I realize that everyone outside of the SEC is screaming for a playoff system. It probably won't change the outcome. ;)

yep, because regardless of how they end the season, teams would get left out. the longer the playoff season lasts, the shorter the regular season would have to be.

It could be done if they really wanted to. Narrow the BCS down to 6 teams and have a playoff. 2 vs 4 in the Rose, 3 vs 6 in the Sugar with 1 and 2 getting byes. Then 1 vs the higer seed in the Sugar and 2 vs the lower in the Orange. Obviously the venues/bowls could change every year. Then you have your national tittle game. Sure it's not perfect and there will always be teams bitching and moaning, but it better than the system they have now. Plus I really don't think you would have to change the regualr season schedules so much (I'm not sure what the rules are reguarding the amount of games teams play and what dates they are not allowed play om.)

Not having a playoff is retarded. It isnt about who ultimately wins, it is about deciding it on the field. Every Division 1 team starts out the season with a chance under a playoff. Despite very few schools actually having a realistic chance, if you go to Cincy and go undefeated you still dont have the opportunity to play for a national championship. That simply is not acceptable to most fans. TCU is better than Cincy, IMO. If Texas had lost TCU still would have been screwed. The entire process of allowing outsiders to make your matchups is mind boggling enough. Imagine if the sites in colege basketball got to choose who was going to play there? That is how you wind up with the I dont care bowl's (this years Sugar, Orange and Rose)
Not to mention, how many fans your team will bring still being a factor (ie. Iowa)? Why not have Notre Dame play then?

What's that?? Utah has outscored their opposition 66-24 in two BCS games?....must be their sh*t conference.

Look I know the highlight of living in potato country is the occasional potato festival and boise st. football but that doesn't change the fact that a playoff system would, at most, yield two championships from s.hit conferences in the span of a century.

Congratulations to Utah though. That was, and will continue to be, the biggest win in the history of their school.

Listen...you are right as you usually are, but the simple facts are, that every blue moon a non-BCS conference yields a team that can compete week in and week out with the big boys. And those teams could even win two weeks in a row in a playoff system and if things fell right even three weeks in a row. I have no doubt of that. You are of the opinion that if it happens only once in 30 years it should not even be attempted. That is fine. I simply disagree. I think a playoff would work. I think in a 16 team playoff those from non BCS conferences would lose first round over 50 percent of the time...but would win first round quite a bit and 2nd round a good chunk as well.

I see no evidence that TCU couldn't be competetive with any team in the country this year. I see no evidence that Boise State couldn't play competetively with any team in the country. I'm a Penn State grad. So I'm jaded, their corpse on the sidelines has clamored for a playoff for about 40 years now as they were once the non-BCS team who couldn't compete either before such things existed. There's always been the non-entities in college football. Penn State was that for years and years in the 60s and 70s. It's just on ESPN now and called non BCS teams.

16 team playoff is too much..

8 teams maximum... you cant extend the season too too much..

It doesn't really matter in the end. We know they at least got one team playing in the national championship this year right? Can you really ask for much more than that? The BCS is working. Every other sport in every other division in the NCAA has it wrong. It would have been easier just to place Montana and Villanova in the championship game instead of going through this confounded playoff. They were the top two seeds anyway. IF they both win this weekend, the 1-AA playoff was a waste of time and they could have done it BCS style.

The Big East was pretty damn good this year. Cincinnati will have their hands full with Florida obviously but I wouldn't be surprised if they go 5-1 in the bowls this year.


As for matching up TCU and Boise, totally ghey but basketball did this the last two years after George Mason- check the first round matchups, if at all possible the most dangerous mid-majors were paired (not a coincidence despite the committee's claims.) The BCS schools have interests to protect.
