Chance Sea the Stars comes to BC?

From Bloodhorse:

As for future plans for Sea The Stars, Oxx refused to speculate, only saying that no decision will be made yet. “I suppose you are going to ask me about the Breeders’ Cup, but that is Nov. 7 and I’m not sure how we would all feel about that,” Oxx said.

“We will let the dust settle, and now is not the time to make a decision. We will see how the horse is and make a decision. To have got as far as the Arc is a lot to be thankful for. I can’t see him staying in training next year, but we haven’t discussed it.”

It would be great for horse racing if this great animal came to US.

If he came, I would be as excited to see a live horse race as I was to see Cigar at Arlington.

Note: I woke up at 5am and drove over to Arlington that morning and sat on Euclid Ave, and I wasn't the first in the line, 2nd to a family from Minnesota. This was before I knew the ins and outs of Arlington. I didn't move from the finish line the WHOLE DAY.

I really hope he rolls over, I know one Irish person that would be besides himself, especially when he finds out that both Sea the Stars, one of his favorite trainers, and one of his favorite girls will be in the same place at the same time :)

randallscott35 10-05-2009 09:29 AM

I think he would win the Turf or the Classic.

cakes44 10-05-2009 09:52 AM

I think he's a great horse, but would be over the top if he came over. I'd definitely try to make $$ betting against him, though definitely not with an American horse.

He would win any colt Breeders Cup race, the only one he might have issues with is the Sprint

probably right but a mile is a tricky distance sometimes on poly

TropicalStorm 10-05-2009 01:33 PM

They are being nice and showing respect for the race, unlike the owner of Rachel Alexandra. They have no intention of coming, just like Rachel had no intention of running in it. The difference is his owners have class and don't want to belittle the Classic and the eventual winner. Rachel's owner showed no class by constantly trying to belittle the race as if he not running in the BC somehow made it no importance. I guess that was part political for the HOY voting but it also was classless. The winner of the Classic or Ladies Classic will have to be a very good horse this year.

Has Jess Jackson actually done anything of the sort?

Do you have any quotes or anything indicating that he's belittled the race, or are you just randomly typing until a sentence finishes if it gives you a chance to call him "classless?"

He has a problem with the surface. Agree with him or not, I am highly dubious of the fact that he's ever belittled the Breeders' Cup Classic as an event.

Maybe I'm wrong.

Cannon Shell 10-05-2009 01:48 PM

Why does everyone assume that if Sea the Stars comes to the BC he will run in the classic? Why wouldnt he run in the Turf? Why would he run in the Classic?

I strongly agree. The list of Arc runners underperforming in the BC is just too long to ignore regardless of STS' ability. If they go it'll basically be as an afterthought and he'll be 4/5. . . if that's not an auto play against I don't know what is. Rip van Winkle seems like the one you want, but obviously it's WAY too soon to start handicapping.

It's obvious isn't it? They have nothing to gain and at least a little to lose in the Turf, and a ton to gain and nothing to lose in the Classic.

They have a lot to lose in any race they run in now. Sounds like the trainer doesnt want to run anyway.

Agreed. He's not coming.

CSC 10-05-2009 02:15 PM

When was the last Arc winner to come over for the BC, I seem to remember Pentre Celebre coming over in 91 or something, not sure if there have been many off the top of my head.

Coach Pants 10-05-2009 02:17 PM

There's no way he's running again. Why risk it?

I ask the same thing about The Steelers. I mean they won the Super Bowl last year. It's too risky to play this year! Take a break guys! Competition is not good! Oh my vagina!

Dylan Thomas! plus i was surprised to hear Tsui say he's 50-50 to go to the BC. I has it at 95% he would be retired after yesterday!

Buckpasser 10-05-2009 02:41 PM

I don't think they are coming over either, but with Raven's Pass winning last year on the synthetic that may have opened some eyes. Don't forget, Henry the Navigator, another Euro was second. The $5 million purse is also very tempting.

You think they have a lot to lose by going in the Classic? They have a lot to lose if he's beat on the Turf but on the synthetics there is a built in excuse.

The Indomitable DrugS 10-05-2009 03:47 PM

I hope Richard's Kid wins the Classic. I'd love to see a really bad Eastern dirt horse win it.

I was so uninspired I not only didn't watch racing this weekend, I didn't even check the results until this afternoon. A synthetic BC kills my interest once Toga is done (and I'm even going to the BC).

Honestly I forgot all those races were even run this weekend until I got to work today. I really wish I was going to Cali with you :(

I wish you were going to so I can put those fingers to work, 1 margarita per 15 minute massage, you get 8 :)

I've got a room with two queen beds if you can find a cheap flight.

A loss to end his career regardless of surface will be a sour note to end on. He wouldnt lose the turf unless the jock fell off.

Arc winners are notoriously great bets in the Turf.

I keep saying that and getting ignored. This reminds me of all the Dylan Thomas talk from a few years ago.

PURSE MONEY....Geez you always forget about how important purse money is to owners, remember they have to keep score.

TropicalStorm 10-05-2009 08:06 PM

Purse money means nothing to this owner. This horse is worth between 50 and 100 million US dollars. The purse money from the Classic works out to about 2 million to the owner after taxes and trainer and jockey. Travel is another 100K. This horse can earn 2 million in a single week in the breeding shed.

He is not a great horse with a decent pedigree. He is not a filly. He is the best horse in decades with a perfect pedigree. He is arguably the greatest stallion prospect ever. He is such a good prospect that the downturn in the market will do little to hurt his value.

There is no chance he ever races again. The BC will likely flatter him more when all his victims dominate eveything.

Let me guess, you are a PR specialist or a marketing guru type.

Did you write the press release for the Zensational stud deal?

WITH ALL THAT SAID........HE IS COMING, TRUST ME, I AM NEVER WRONG. HE IS COMING, YOU HEARD IT HERE:tro: :tro:
