Einstein vs Gio Ponti

The pp's are now out for the Arlington Million....
Assuming these 2 both run there best race, who is better ?
I give the edge to Einstein... I also like a few Euro's.

hockey2315 08-05-2009 04:59 PM

GP's last is better than anything Einstein has ever run. I want no part of Einstein here. Not that I really want a short price on GP. . .

Trip-wise though, Einstein is going to get the best of it with his post and where the speed is, I wouldn't toss him at all....

Its a very competitive race in my mind, with the only horses that have no shot are Recapturetheglory, Mr. Sidney, and Presious Passion. I am almost ready to add Just as Well to that list.

How do you think the betting will go ? I can see 4-1 on Einstein.

Maybe 6/1.....Cima and Gloria have been getting talked about alot here, and Gio Ponti is gonna get pounded on...

randallscott35 08-05-2009 05:22 PM

Have to say if it is firm and there isn't other pace, I think PP can do it again.

Anyone kicking out Presious Passion really needs to take a long look at his races. This is a front runner that's able to ACCELERATE in the lane when the closers come to him. And, this is NOT after running crawling fractions. This horse is able to run a wicked pace and do this. And, he can also duel and do it. And, on more than one occasion he's come back again after being passed in the stretch.
I'm just hoping for a firm course.

I dont remember TFM ever liking a horse this much.
This is at least the 4th time I have saw him tout Presious Passion.

Brass Hat, Proudinsky, Banrock, Quasicobra and Spice Route are not in this race to try and run him down. He wins I will tip my cap to him. I don't even think he will hit the board.

No idea, it pays well though regardless of outcome, I think the pool from last year had 700k in it or something, it was monsterous....

It paid nearly $600 for a dollar in 2007 with Shamdinan, Royal Highness, and Jambalaya.

The pool is usually huge and there's plenty of value to be had.

haven't been feeling well to handicap or feel like looking @ the field, but Einstein is nothing to worry about in a big turf race. If there are any decent grade I or grade II horses in the field he most likely gets slightly to moderately overbet as usual, and beat.

For any record out there, I am very interested in Take the Points, especially getting Desormeax. Him and Laureate Conductor right now. I don't know what to do with Giant Oak. He is such a mother f'er in the morning, always hot and bothered, and with it being so hot Saturday, I have a feeling he might lose it completely......

Unless AP has contracted with Block to get this guy another perfect inside trip, it doesn't matter whether he's calm or not. He can't win unless the race collapses and he ends up getting some kind of advantage on the other closers.

Hard to believe I once thought this might be a decent horse.:zz:

When I saw him at 3:5 last out I almost fell off my chair. (When Reb nailed No Inflation, I did.)

He may not win, but he will have a huge impact on the race outcome. When Julien and Kent hit the half mile pole, PP has a five length lead, and they feel they have a lot of horse under them, they will have a tough decision to make. Do they inch closer to PP to get a jump on the deep closers, all the while knowing that PP is going to put up a fight. Or do they sit back and wait a little longer hoping that PP will be softened up.

What I see happening is PP running off like he normally does, the chasers and midpackers get closer on the far turn, PP spurts away in early stretch taking the race away from Einstein, Gio Ponti catches PP late, and then Stotsfold nails Gio at the wire with Just As Well a hard-charging 3rd.

I completely disagree. Im not touting Einstein in this spot but to say that he is nothing to worry about in a big turf race is just not accurate. He has won multiple grade 1's on turf which is his strongest surface and the Big cap on the synthetic.

What do you have to back up this statement?

Unfortunately I think he'll be everyone's wise guy horse.

I think you will see him last and not 'in between' horses this time. Block has been heard saying that he isn't a horse that can stop and go, he is go and when he is stopped, he is done....Razo doesn't help much...

I am expecting a huge run by Single Solution in the race before the Sec, she is a half sister to Vacare and with all this speed, she is going to explode in the lane I think.

If Romacaca f's me one more time here, who knows what I am liable to do.

I don't need back-up
I'm like Arnold Schwarzenegger in this game

ok... you made me look at the form

In this field, if you give me 10-1 I will bet Einstein to win for $5, but no more. And this field isn't even all that great.

On paper Gio Ponte and Cime de Triomphe are the obvious standouts. The key here is going back and watching the Eclipse(and maybe a couple other foreign flicks) and making my judgment as to whether or not he "lost the jump" on conduit in the trouble line, regressed, or whether conduit improved/used the blue gerard.. as prep.

Einstein desperately needs Presious Passion's(how can you not root for this horse?) PACE to take the 3 foreign shippers out of there game(Glorio de campo is probably reall not a contender, so "2" )
But even with the best "American" style pace and the worst reactions frome CIME n co. , Gio Ponte looks like he would benefit at this point just as much and have his table set.

RockHardTen1985 08-06-2009 12:47 AM

Again, im not touting Einstein to win here. I just don't understand how you could say he is not to at least be respected. He is a multiple grade 1 winner on turf and one of the 5-10 best horses in training in the US.

cakes44 08-06-2009 07:26 AM

I'm guessing Einstein is forced into a premature move here on PP, then gets blown by in the stretch to finish 4thish. I just don't think Einstein has the turn of foot to match up with some of these, even with a perfect setup.

you manage to crack a twitter joke for like the one twitter page in the universe that has been completely bananas in a meet that is supposed to be a tough meet.

You somehow missed Kensai until he RAN YOU OVER, and now you would bet Einstein in this race at 4-1...

best case scenario you are a joke alias for DougS (doesn't he :{>: RHT ?)

real answer: haven't been well, haven't handicapped in days much less updated twitter, check back next weekend

he is a nice horse and deserves respect as a racehorse that's for sure.

If you don't think Gio Ponte will run his race, And you don't think the French horse or Cima Triomphe will run a big race I guess he has a shot with these others.

p.s. - i watched the Eclipse sea stars on youtube and Conduit's jockey gave Lemaire(Cima) a serious problem while everyone was just making their run. Will have to look at Brigadier Gerard as well as the frenchies last race later...

CSC 08-06-2009 08:55 AM

With Einstein you have a horse you know what you are going to get, not unlike going to a Mcdonalds and ordering a Big Mac, no thrills, no surprises...he usually runs his race and will be competitive at underlaid odds. If others run their A races I wouldn't be too bullish on his chances of winning. Safe pick but you have to hope others don't show up Sat.

The two are very similar and easily confused for one another.

I think it's the last name thing.

I was not taking a shot at him. I asked him a question. He is the only one taking shots. I guess its because he takes so much **** from everyone else, he must look at me as the only person he can get away with taking a shot at. Kinda sucks for him, so defensive, I really was only asking if he will post his picks.

I think Einstein is much better than a Big Mac. Those things are gross and make you feel ill after eating one. If you eat enough of that crap, you end up smelling like the food. I get your point, but cant we upgrade Einstein to at the very least a Quiznos sub or a cup of coffee from Starbucks?

This may be the toughest race to handicap...ever.
