Coccoa Beach

WOW! That was an amazing performance.

Scav 06-21-2009 04:31 PM

What track?

Gauchos0522 06-21-2009 04:34 PM

Belmont...finished last of 4 in another bad run by a Godolphin returnee

eajinabi 06-21-2009 04:35 PM

Belmont Park. That performance was mind blowing. Watch out Zenyatta.

letswastemoney 06-21-2009 04:35 PM

I thought you were serious and was expecting some monster 15 length win

Travis Stone 06-21-2009 04:38 PM

She looked like she was slipping and sliding the whole time... right off the turn her back legs kinda come out from behind her a bit.

Scav 06-21-2009 04:38 PM

Isn't it really sloppy there today?

NTamm1215 06-21-2009 04:43 PM

She looked terrible, almost as bad as Music Note last week. Not a good time to be Rick Mettee.

To me, her performance is a toss if the track was as bad as I think I saw, I didn't pay attention at all to NY today.....

Isn't this her first start off the layoff also?

It was her first start off the layoff. He had a hard time getting her to settle. When he finally did, it was time to ask for run and at that point she didnt have anything.

Did any of you think it odd that she was entered in a listed stake to begin with?

What!? No love for With Flying Colors

She's a Grade I winner on a sloppy track and the field she was facing was absolutely abysmal. The track is certainly going to be used as an excuse but this is now the 2nd week in a row very consistent fillies looked terrible for Godolphin. The management of the horses needs to be questioned a bit.

I didn't know the sloppy track part because I didn't look at anything in NY today so I completely agree with you....Given she has run well over it before, she should have shown something

I know...thanks Coco Belle!! :D

Linny 06-21-2009 06:23 PM

This mare ran down multiple G1 winner Ginger Punch on a wet track at Belmont last fall. Today she looked dreadful. I know that not every "wet" track is the same but she sure didn't look like the horse we saw last summer and fall.

blackthroatedwind 06-21-2009 06:27 PM

She ran last behind three horses that would have trouble winning a competitive 50K claimer, on a track that she beat the reigning Eclipse winner over last Fall, and people are making excuses?

I look forward to her beating me in the future.....as I wouldn't bet a penny on her wherever she may show up next. Today was a horrendous performance.

blackthroatedwind 06-21-2009 06:28 PM

However, is it so hard for her named to be spelled correctly?

the_fat_man 06-21-2009 06:33 PM

With all the good racing out there today, only on DT would all the NYRA faithful be out in force commenting on a race over a sloppy track. Who cares? The racing there is UGLY.

Hard to believe so many of you are still day to dayers. Damn, you'd think this was 1976 and there were no other options.

Someone drop me a note when real racing resumes out there. (Which just might be never.)

Gander 06-21-2009 06:38 PM

Thought the exacta came back a bit short for beating Cocoa Beach.
$58 for $2??!! Somebody bet out on that number. And very convenient how Ramon doesnt try a lick to run 3rd. Thought he could have easily been 3rd if he wanted to.

It was a four-horse race and the 2nd choice ran second. Yeah, someone really went nuts playing that combination in a race that featured two 7 dollar exactas and a $5.

You're also wrong about Dominguez not trying. She was lugging in through the stretch and he was riding her hard and with the whip to the wire. Accuse Dominguez of anything but the guy gives 110% every time.

I thought it was a funny spot for her return too.

I'm not sure if you should be applauded or slapped for responding to that.

No right thinking person.

Sightseek 06-21-2009 07:02 PM

Wasn't her first race last year a listed stake at Saratoga?

You're right, dont mind me. Just a little frustrated at the result is all. Bad reaction, bad post. My bad.

It was. She wasnt a multiple grade 1 winner last year either. She came into last year having won only listed races in dubai and a couple of grad3 3 races in chile and the saratoga race was her first race of any kind in North America. Since then she beat ginger punch on the dirt, finished second to zenyatta on synthetic and won a grade 1 on turf.

It just seemed like an odd placing for such an accomplished horse...to me anyway. Imagine if Zenyatta had opened the year in a listed stake.

brockguy 06-21-2009 07:29 PM

In the space of a week, they had 3 of their best horses smashed to smithereens!! It's probably the lowest point in terms of racing for Godolphon that I can remember!

She was a bit more accomplished then you make it sound. While only listed, she destroyed them in the UAE Oaks and was 3rd in the UAE Derby (albeit, 8 lengths back).

Hasn't Godolphin gone the non-graded or even non-stake route with other horses coming off a lay-off?

Sightseek 06-21-2009 07:40 PM

To answer my own question they brought Discreet Cat back in an optional claimer at Saratoga.

I daresay that the return to the races of one of last year's best mares does warrant comment, for good or ill.

Of course, that is why she was your top pick today online.

Past Post 06-21-2009 09:31 PM

Another bridge jumper goes down by betting the horse to place for about 150,000.

She was a better bet at 1:9 than the winner at 5:1 wise guy.
