It's called a surgical strike on our avowed enemies...pretty simple! We've played footsie with Syria long enough...they want aid and status, they gotta
play by our rules.

Mortimer 10-26-2008 11:17 PM

Googlies!!

Mortimer 10-27-2008 12:23 AM

oh, gimme a break. we can't just send choppers whereever the hell we want and start shooting up the countryside. this is ridiculous.

no doubt we'd be just as understanding if...oh, let's say mexico suddenly started crossing the border at will, and blowing up portions of texas. no doubt it would be just effing peachy. why, we'd just go oh..those darn mexicans. no doubt they would ask us for help, but i'm sure they can handle it on their own.
if we don't respect other countries borders, and maybe ask for permission before engaging in what pretty much is an act of war, how can we expect anyone else to do the same?
georgia and russia-remember that little episode?

we used to be the country who spoke softly, yet carried a big stick. now we just carry the stick and beat folks over the head with it. and then act surprised when it doesn't go over well.

Mortimer 10-27-2008 03:51 AM

^^^^ Really needs to rub my belly...and give the invader to the south a firm tongue lashing.

Obviously you wanted a chance to rant, so now you've done so! Syria is playin both sides of the game. They can't expect special favor from the US if they're duplicitus in protecting this countrys' interests. Maybe we can sit down with them and negotiate them not stabbing us in the back...Nobama will be right there.

What ever happen to the Neutron Bomb?

Each time something like this happens, they claim kids got killed. Are we actually killing kids, or do they kill them n' throw them into the pile?

why would we expect syria to protect our countrys best interests? especially when WE are so poor at protecting what's best for us. but crossing another countrys borders at our will, and not theirs, can't be in anyone's best interest. sovereignty, regardless of which country you're talking of, should be respected.

I just watched a CNN interview of the Syrian ambassador to the US and a retired U.S. military commander. Now timmi, do you understand why there are people like myself who don't believe in this administration's lies, and are more likely to believe this Syrian ambassador? Do you believe the Bush lies about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Do you believe the Bush lies associating Iraq with 9/11?
Did you ever hear about our country's secret prisons, it's use of torture? Ever see those pictures of those good ole' boys at Abu Garhaib? Remember those "Joe Six Pack"type, patriotic Americans playing those neat, perverted sex games with the prisoners, some of whom were completely innocent? Surely, even you picked up on the underlying homo-erotic nature of these tough soldier's fantasy play.

This attack from us is a domestic, political ploy. Have you noticed there is an election coming up, and the Republican candidate is hopelessly behind?

I don't believe anything from our government, certainly not from this Bush administration. Who would, but a fool?

the admin is probably telling the truth. i doubt they are doing this as a domestic political ploy.

but i completely understand your point of view. i'd love to pin the "conspiracy nut" label here but there's good evidence that momentary political expediency trumps all else for them.

they can tell the truth and most people have to have a seed of doubt. i don't know how any intelligent person can take what they say at face value.

and there's the price for being deceptive.

Mike 10-27-2008 08:57 PM

I agree that the explanation from our side just might be true. It might, but our credibility has been damaged over the last eight years

I was parroting the lines of Denis Kucinich and the Syrian ambassador when I used the "domestic political ploy" line
