Longoria Tag

Is it just me or when they showed the freeze frame of Longoria tagging Rollins, did it look like he was sticking his glove up his butt?

declansharbor 10-26-2008 07:50 PM

Maybe I should move this comment over to here.

If these are the best umps MLB has to offer, this league is in trouble.

Helping out the Phils or not, they have been a phucking joke all series long.

and Rollins has been playing so tight a$$ed all post-season that you couldnt fit a greased beebe up his mud chute.

MaTH716 10-26-2008 07:53 PM

Getting out only giving up one is big there for the Rays. For a sec, I didn't see Sonnastine getting out of the 1st.

the_fat_man 10-26-2008 07:55 PM

This is the AMERICAN WAY to do things: preach FAIRNESS then try to make the game as unfair as possible (that way the fans won't feel left out -- homefield advantage, and such BS). Too bad there's no REPLAY available (like there is in HORSE RACING) to make it possible to get some of these calls correct. (Actually there is, but they don't really want to use it, as the game would be TOO fair then.) I refer you to some of the decisions of the STEWARDS for an example of how well things can work.

The baseball purists (idiots IMO) think it would take the human element out of the game. To me, if it means the CORRECT decision would be made on all questiionable calls (except for balks, balls and strikes), I say go for it. I would hate for a team to be unrightfully robbed of a chance to win the game, esp. meaningful ones like this.

Check out big Joey B. raking in the k's thus far. (activated the mush force field before making this comment)

The games are just too damn long already. Let's face it, there are so many bang-bang plays. What are you going to do replay them all? I am sure that they could come up with some sort of challange system, but I just think you will never see it happen.

Would be the route I went if I were Selig. Maybe like 2 or 3 a game only, and could only be used in certain situations. I would much rather have the game extended 10-15 minutes than to have a horrible call possibly decide the fate of a team. Call me crazy. I agree though, that games can be drawn out. If a few of these post-season games were played in like June or July, I'd have called it a night before the 7th inning stretch.

MaTH716 10-26-2008 08:32 PM

There is really no reason not to start these games at 7-7:30. You are still going through the primetime slot. More people might watch if they thought they had a chance of seeing the whole game. But with the games ending so late, why get caught up in a game, when you know it's going to end around midnight and you will be fast asleep by then?

I thought this was about Charley Tag's sister.

BOOYAH!!!!

If your going to give the Big 6 RyHo Kid a breaking ball, make sure it breaks and doesnt hang over the plate like that. If it breaks, he's screwed and will go golfing for it. If it doesnt, well....

These don't seem to be the Rays that beat the Red Sox.....

TANKING....They may have blast all the load they had after beating your sox. I thought Blanton would possibly do that, but not Moyer. Cannon thought Moyer might do that, but not Blanton. :p

Their pitching has been horrendous, though it really showed up in the box score last night...The results of the 2 previous games could have been just as lopsided had they gotten half of their runners lob across.... To not be able to hit Moyer is unfathomable... hopefully the Maddon has one more inspirational pep talk in 'em... I think if they can get this back to St. Pete, Philly will start s-ing themselves...

Antitrust32 10-27-2008 01:08 PM

Anybody else :{>: when Joe the Lumbar went deep? :D

I really hope that the Phils can play well tonight, and the bats keep working and Cole has his best stuff.... Cause as a Philadelphia sporty-fan, I would be REALLY nervous going back to Tampa!

Like Hertz, not exactly.

The difference is that when the action starts on the track you can unmute and listen to the announcer. I never watch TVG anymore anyway except when Keeneland is on or sometimes the meadowlnds at night when the less annoying guys are there

Cannon Shell 10-27-2008 05:08 PM

Joe Blanton makes you look bad and hit a HR. Tampa deserves to lose:wf

This is the worst umpiring crew to do a WS. Having been around 100+ games this season....NONE of them should even be there. The whole series turned when the strike zone was expanded for game 3. There is no doubt in my mind.
It was even brought up BEFORE the game (3) on FOX that if the umps expanded the zone, Moyer will have a good game. If the zone stayed true....the Rays would have no problem . Joe Buck even made a similar comment.

The Rays already won their "World Series" when we beat the Red Sox. They used all their emotion up in that series. Not only did we (the grounds crew) notice it but so did George Hendrick and some other coaches. We were talking to him about it before game 2 and he was worried that beating the Sox -which were better than the Phills took a toll.

Being realistic and knowing that we probably weren't as good as the Sox, it's hard to think that we can come back . IF...IF we can get past Hammels tonight, we have a chance....albeit a slim one.

On another note.....the Rays treated the full time employees to all expense paid trip to game 3 and 4 up in Philly. The fans were so bad there that they needed extra security because fans were "animals" as the media put it. I guess they were throwing food and beer all over the kids in Rays gear and calling the women vulgar things just for being, well a women in Rays gear.
Talk about a real home field advantage....they had anyone without Phillies gear in fear.

However....the Phills' players have been so polite. They are the ONE team that will use the trash cans provided. Dobbs, Stairs and even Howard got up off of the bench to throw shtuff away. Everyone else (besides the Tigers and Reds) are pigs and think they are too good to use trash cans.

The rays had a great run and are positioned to get even better.

Don't get me wrong. I am VERY satisfied that we beat the Red Sox. That was just as important to me (and most of my co-workers). Of course I'd love to win the WS but I am happy to get where we are.

We may be better next year but we'll also now have that target on our backs.

MLB got soooo lucky that Tampa scored before they delayed the game. How bad would it have been to have the world Series decided on a rain shortened game? Or wait till 4 am to get the rest in?

Everyone gets lucky. They should have moved the game up to 4PM. Sorry FOX but the game is more important. FOX could have shown a replay of the game at 8PM.
What a horrible umpiring crew. Embarrassing. The turface should have come out in the 3rd inning.

MaTH716 10-27-2008 10:06 PM

There were pools of water on the infield. The game should have been delayed a long time ago.

First time ever a WS game has been suspended.
Yes....the game should have been delayed long ago. The turface is good but not great over a long period of time.

The party that I was at was in an uproar due to this. Of course, I had to be the drunken a$$hole to bring it to everyone's attention. Sometimes I wonder if these people even watch the game. There's watching the game, and there's WATCHING the game. I do the latter, and was in the minority tonight, which plays a BIG role why I enjoy WATCHING it with my old man.

My brother Danny was sending me picture messages of himself getting into the game free with his old yellow Aramark jersey, posing as a vendor. Who had the last laugh on that one?

As soon as I saw them throw Selig's half lifeless body to a podium, I knew it was kapoots. Looks like wednesday will be when it resumes. I wonder who they trot to the mound to start it off.

docicu3 10-29-2008 07:05 PM

Phils better not let Tampa get back to their place to play a meaningful game as the longer they hang around the more dangerous they are.....hitting may be scarce for both teams given the time away......I'm rooting for the Massachusetts kids the Rays have especially Rocco as I think his career has been ruined by whatever illness it is he really has here!! Very very strange what happened to him this year......good luck Rays fans!!

Cannon Shell 10-29-2008 08:01 PM

Tim just said in the late innings its better if the pitchers let the batters hit HR's to the opposite field. :zz:

SCUDSBROTHER 10-29-2008 08:39 PM

Both of these UPTON brothers are stupid. I saw the one playing in Arizona make key mistakes, and generally be dumb as a cow. I challenge any manager to get them to stop acting pseudo-retarded. They have power, but I have seen both put a knife in the back of their own team.

I just don't understand how he doesn't take a strike there. It's not like he's has been locked in this whole series. It's fundamental baseball, a thing that they teach you in little leauge.

The Rays didn't start taking the first pitch until game 5. Both big hits by Pena and Longo came after taking first pitch strikes. No patience.

Seems like he has attitude issues. Can't have his brain just turn off like that. Look at R Howard. He was struggling early, but hung in there until he started seeing the ball better. Not only that, but he has to put up with having that nose that is like the back of a Batmobile.
