UPDATE 9/8: Aldeb set after crisp blowout; Mig likely

Aldebutante has shaken off any ill effects from her bout with a slight thyroid imbalance as she drilled a sharp 5f Friday morning at Churchill under Cherie in 1:02.4. According to a pleased Chuck Simon, the Aldebaran miss, pointing for a September 14 Belmont career bow, gobbled up ground fluidly reaching out in the drill which came without urging or company. She finished strong and galloped out impressively. More from Chuck when training hours end...

Looking good can't wait to see her start:)

Any Jockey yet for 14th?

Cannon Shell 08-29-2008 07:06 PM

Honestly the jockey colony in NY is so shallow I'm not sure who we are going to get

In order:

No

Yes, probably riding for one of the bigger outfits, not DeeTee shipping in one horse.

Jockey Colony

If NY Jockey Colony isn't deep than what Jockey Colony is deep? CD was quite weak this Spring.... California, don't get me started there...
I guess only Saratoga and Keeneland would qualify these days.

Nowhere is deep but that wasnt the case a few years ago. I suppose Gomez will be returning which is a possibility

Since they will be running at Fairplex out here (9/5-9/22)..a lot of the "good" jocks could head back East for a few weeks..like Gomez, Smith, Leparoux, Bejarano.

GBBob 09-04-2008 09:25 AM

Aldebutante 1:03.20 BG 1

Wouldn't that mean Mig would be the peoples choice if available.....is his comeback in New York still continuing through Belmont or did he go west again

ALSO A GOOD CHOICE..

Cannon Shell 09-04-2008 02:13 PM

There is zero chance that we will use Channing Hill on a 1st time starter.

The Mig is an interesting choice

No she is ready to go, doesnt need anymore works

SniperSB23 09-05-2008 01:07 AM

Let's get Prado, JV, and Garcia to fight to the death with the winner getting the mount.

NoCarolinaTony 09-07-2008 11:12 AM

In the FWIW category, Channing Hill is getting better. He's clearly not in the upper echelon of jockeys but he's moved up from the auto throw out category. Learning to ride in the NY colony can only help him get better.

My Choice for ALdeb would be Corny, Prado, Luzzi, Mig, Julien, Bejerano (if he comes back east). Anybody but Albarado.

Cannon Shell 09-07-2008 05:05 PM

Aldeb is going to blow out 3/8ths from the gate in the am.

NoCarolinaTony 09-07-2008 09:20 PM

Cannon,

Why do some trainers go to 6F works more often in California than they do back east?

I think that it used to be that the tracks were very fast and the trainers felt the horses needed more work to get racing fit than the East Coast trainers. Not to mention that the style of racing was run like hell from the gate and you need to be really fit to excel under those circumstances. That may be a generalization but I really dont have any other theories.

AeWingnut 09-07-2008 11:19 PM

speaking of works

how long has been since you've seen a horse have a recorded work at a mile anywhere?

I notice that there seems to be many more works that are considered h -
handily out west than out east.

when is Aldeb going to run the 6 1/2 sprint on the downhill :D :L: Santa Anita that is

Bennie Stutts works Smooth Air a mile often. You see Mr. Jerkens' horses in PP's regularly that have been working 7f or a mile. Trombetta works 7f a lot too.

Cannon Shell 09-08-2008 08:26 AM

Calder guys do that slow mile work a lot too

PSH 09-08-2008 09:05 AM

Nice Blowout Monday am

From ChuckBlog:

ALDEB SET FOR BEL DEBUT AFTER :35.0 GATE BLOW: MIG LIKELY

Aldebutante broke sharp from the gate this morning under Diego Rodriguez in her final work before her first start on Sunday. She was timed in :35.4 for three furlongs and galloped out very strong afterwards. After the work she cooled out quickly and we are working on transportation plans to get her to Belmont later this week.

She is going to trainer John Fahey's barn at Belmont and will run in John's name as trainer. (He will saddle her since I will be busy at the sales this weekend). We have reached out to Richard Migliore and he will definitely ride her if we wind up in the dirt race though my preference right now is to try her on the turf. They will let us know tomorrow if he can be freed up from any commitments in the turf race.

I can't bet Calder so I never bother to keep up with it. (I only bet Churchill twice this year /Oaks and Derby days) The last time I saw a mile work recorded was back in 90 something. it's far from the norm. 3,4 & 5f are.

You realize if any other result except a first placing will be blamed on the idiot who suggested the jockey choice.
