any news?

On Joba? If he is hurt the Yankees are done. Gales makes fun of the Red Sox bullpen but has anyone looked at the Yankees staff lately? And now Joba and Rivera are hurting?

Later Joba, see you in 2011 with an 89 mph fastball.

Hard to believe that Barry Bonds couldnt fit into left field in the Mets lineup as opposed to Evans, Chavez and the other 7 dwarfs

It is idiocy, there are about ten teams that should be fighting each other to get him. Instead they are signing class acts like Sidney Ponson.

SIR Sidney Ponson...

Will Carrol on Chamberlain..

"Joba Chamberlain (TBD)
I finally got on a plane around 9:00 p.m., and later, when we landed and I switched my phone back on, it nearly exploded. Somewhere in between was the scene that struck fear into hundreds of Yankees fans, because Chamberlain came out of the game while pointing to the outside of his shoulder. The early word is that his muscle tightened up due to a combination of the blistering heat (I sat in that heat the night before, and yeah, it's a huge factor) and fatigue. It's the latter that's most worrisome given Chamberlain's switch of roles. While he built up his arm strength, no one has any idea how the fatigue will be affected by the shape of his season. He's headed back to New York for tests, so we'll know more soon, but early reports and sources tell me that things look relatively positive, based both on the pain's location, and on his reaction. Expect the Yanks to be ultra-conservative, and for Chamberlain to miss a start at least. We'll know more after the images, but I'll leave the DXL as a TBD for now."

Cannon Shell 08-05-2008 02:32 PM

Not great for Sox either...

from Carroll

"David Ortiz (0 DXL)
Big Papi felt a click in his injured wrist. A click doesn't sound like much, but it might be the head of Ortiz that the Sox have to worry about, rather than the wrist. For the first time, Ortiz is doubting his wrist a bit, and that's as bad as if it were hurting; we'll have to wait and see how the wrist reacts. While you can see in the picture that accompanies Tony Massarotti's article that Ortiz's wrist is often in precisely the position he doesn't want it to be in, I'm curious about the at-bat with the bad click. He was up against Joakim Soria, and he hit a few foul balls before grounding out to first. I'd bet it was the foul more than the pulled grounder, as it's taking it the opposite way that should put Ortiz's wrist into the worst position. MLB.com doesn't have the video available as I get this out, but I'm sure my readers will tell me how it looked. Watch to see how Ortiz reacts, both mentally and to the treatment he's sure to get"

They have officially hit panic mode. When your top three starters in AAA have ERAs of 5+ it makes things tough.

Bronson Arroyo never looked so good...

Cannon Shell 08-05-2008 03:09 PM

OR Randy wolf or greg Maddux

MaTH716 08-05-2008 06:52 PM

You know the Bombers are in trouble when they are hoping to maybe get a contribution out of Carl Pavano.

Brian Cashman called while i was out, wanted to know if scott boras was still my agent...

Thr Red Sox pen is better in all positions than Yankees. So if they stink, what do you have?

gales0678 08-06-2008 08:14 AM

sure Chuck

I think GPK has a better chance than Del Carmen of getting people out , but , what do i know

and go ahead and take Papelbon over Rivera

Gander 08-06-2008 08:22 AM

Nobody is better than Rivera, but the Yankees have to do better just to get to Rivera mattering at all. He only plays when they are winning or the game is tied. What happened to your Tampa going to fold theory?

gales0678 08-06-2008 08:24 AM

never said that Timmy , show me where i said the rays would fold and you and the misses have dinner on me when i get to town

Gander 08-06-2008 08:26 AM

Sorry Gales, it was your buddy who said that.
I wish he was right. Everybody is saying how great the Angels have been, what about the Rays? They may be just as good. Every morning I wake up and check the scores its the same thing- Rays win. I want them to go away.

gales0678 08-06-2008 08:31 AM

well let's see how they do out on the upcoming west coast trip

they have better starting pitching than the yankees or red sox and that is the main reason they are in 1st place and will be there until the end

starting pitching cures a lot of warts elsewhere

They can also score runs. Did you see that at bat from Longoria last night?

gales0678 08-06-2008 08:47 AM

nope

but their pitching is the key timmy

He got up and hit 2 straight pitches way out of the park but they were both foul balls, both five to ten feet left of the foul pole in left field. Then he hit a
3rd pitch and it was fair and even farther than the previous two.

gales0678 08-06-2008 09:01 AM

no question you need runs timmy and it was a great ab bat

but where ar they without shields, kazmir , etc???

Kazmir has been average at best since the break, and they are still winning... Shields has been the stand out, with Garza a close second...If Edwin Jackson ever got an ounce of run support he'd be right up there as well. Sonnenstein has been the 5th starter and he'd be 2nd or 3r any any other team right now...The bats have awaken, and the bull pen is stout. They've got a soft schedule for the next few weeks and then 4 brutal series' with NY and BOS in Sept. Should be interesting, I've been to about 10 games this year and can honestly say the confidence this team plays with each day is impressive. 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th today to take the series from Cleveland which has been kryptonite to them.

Good luck, you will need it guys - Joba headed to the DL:

Gales
Have you looked at the Yankees pitching situation? They have a 7th inning guy that just came off the 60 day DL and isnt that good anyway, no set up guy, marte is hardly more than competent as a lefty and Rivera has had back spasms despite only having thrown 40 innings. Yeah I'll take Okajima, Lopez, Aardsma, Masterson and Pappelbon over Marte, Veras , Ramirez and Rivera.

Baseball is 162 games. 9 games is hardly more than a blip. Neither team will catch Tampa if they start hitting...
