A guy ran the 400 meter hurdles, qualified, and then ran the 400 m run 30 minutes later, faltered badly and was vanned off. Actually he just quit and walked off. I cant believe he thought he could pull that off as he barely qualified in the hurdles in an epic struggle.

MaTH716 06-29-2008 08:20 PM

I actually saw both races, that Tyson Gay was flying. As far as the other guy goes, you know you must be in trouble when you take a delay of game penalty in track and field.

Coach Pants 06-29-2008 08:22 PM

Michael Phelps' performance in the 400 I.M. dwarfed what Rudy Gay did tonight.

400M is the most grueling race, I can't imagine with hurdles too.

Mortimer 06-29-2008 08:29 PM

How did Wariner do?

can the both do it on the BIG stage? both will probably run on the 4X100 teams too. i would also think that Gay will be back next weekend in the 200m trials.

It is a total leg amputator.
The 800 m is somewhat of a killer also.
The marathon is just plain stupid if you get a sprint at the finish.
Ahhh its just plain stupid anyway.

The day a man wins the 400m and the 800 m will be the day you see the greatest athlete ever. The diff. in the body conformation for these two races is amazing.

100 m 200 m, real muscular guys... 400 m they slim down a bit(except Michael Johnson), 800 m and they turn to greyhounds. After that, 5' 6" 125 lbs is about the right size.

MJ was a Complete freak with that 200-400 double. 400 runners aren't fast enough to compete at that level in the 200 and 200 runners aren't strong enough to compete in the 400. the next odd double will be 400m-800m.

Mortimer 06-30-2008 08:38 AM

Complete and utter poppycock.

Wariner just didn't have it last night. he closed the lane 5-6 stager to within a step or 2 of Merrit but could get by him.
Merrit, Warnier, Neville.

Huh?

Coach Pants 07-04-2008 11:54 AM

An african-american just broke the american record in the 50 freestyle at swim trials. Cullen Jones.

Quite frankly track and field is a roided up joke with nothing but thugs and eminem wannabes. Swimming is a sport you can support. No dopers competing at trials.

not completely true. with the fall of marion jones, track has cleaned up greatly. sad to say, i was a big fan of marion jones, what a waste of great natural talent.

the 800m finals monday night was GREAT to watch. 1-2-3 sweep for the state of Oregon. the winner is from a D3 school and 2 of the guys are from Eugene.

ddthetide 07-06-2008 07:21 AM

200m finals are today and Gay is out. cramped during his semi-final and tumbled to the track. 4-5 weeks turn around time could effect his run at the gold.
crawford and dix now favorites in the 200m. crawford was Very strong yesterday.
