Go the Princess! The Slipper looks like a quality field. It's always a great race, can't wait. |
The champion qualities of Weekend Hussler will undergo their biggest test at Rosehill on Saturday when he strives to become the first horse since Kingston Town to win six Group One races in a season.
The Ross McDonald-trained Victorian will take his place in a star-studded George Ryder Stakes (1500m) field headed by outstanding galloper Racing To Win, heavyweight Desert War, last-start winner Mentality and Honor In War. Weekend Hussler, recently rated the best three-year-old in the world, has already claimed the Caulfield Guineas, Ascot Vale Stakes, Oakleigh Plate, Newmarket Handicap and Randwick Guineas, all at Group One level, this season. But the Ryder will present a unique challenge - it will be his first start at weight-for-age. "This is probably his toughest test," said regular rider Brad Rawiller. "It's against older horses, it's virtually as good a field as you could get and it's run the Sydney way. "This will be no easy race but at the end of the day I wouldn't want to be on any other horse." Further complicating the picture is the increasing likelihood of a slow track which the gelding has raced on just once for a fourth in a Sale maiden on debut. However, he has posted four victories on dead ground and Rawiller doesn't expect the gelding to have any trouble with a rain-affected Rosehill. "I'm not really concerned to be honest, but in saying that you never know until they've raced on it with pressure," Rawiller said. "He's given every indication when he has been on softish ground before that he's got no dramas with it." Weekend Hussler tuned up for the Ryder with a hitout at Rosehill under regular trackwork rider Les Beer. However, Rawiller didn't let the star gelding too far out of his sight, partnering his galloping companion before giving the track a solid workout himself. "I worked with him this morning, he looks in terrific order and worked super," Rawiller said. "He's settled in good and I had a fairly good look at the track, I had a little jog afterwards to get my own bearings on it as well. "Rosehill might suit him better (than Randwick) for mine." Weekend Hussler was wayward at his Sydney debut in the Guineas, hanging out on the home turn and in the straight before knuckling down to his task and arriving in the final bound to nose Triple Honour out of victory. Rawiller said the fact he was able to win after doing everything wrong only underlined his quality. "What happened at the furlong (200m), the way he ducked out, that would normally be the end of any horse but not for him," Rawiller said. "He was just too good." Kingston Town claimed his record of six Group One wins in a season during his three-year-old year and if Weekend Hussler can emulate him on Saturday, he might even earn the chance to go one better. The gelding is among entries for the Doncaster Hcp (1600m) at Randwick seven days later but connections will wait until after the Ryder to decide whether he will start. ![]() _________________ |

Anyone know what the weather's like in Sydney today? Hoping the track isn't too damp tomorrow, the Princess needs it on the better side of dead.
Saw in the newspaper this morning that they might go to the Prix de l'Arc if she wins this race tomorrow! |
Sad news im afraid.Rain,Rain & more Rain reckon it will change all the races
|
:(
Disappointing, such a great card. |
Andrew Bensley on 2KY a few minutes ago seemed to think any rain over the night or morning will keep it Heavy.
|
Due to heavy rain in and around Sydney AAMI the major sponsors of tomorrow great race and racing NSW have deicided to pull the plug on it. It will now be know as either the Golden Flipper or the one i like the Golden Shower
|
LOL, nice one. :D
|
I think Racing To Win might handle these...

Certainly puts awhole new prospectivie on the race, alot of these 2 year olds havnt even run in the wet |
RIOS!
Really proud of that effort in the Tulloch, he hates it wet. Good boy. |
about to go put my bets on then kick back with a few beers as they r showin then on nine :-).I turn the sound off as i hate the sound of the jerk offs all they seem to do is interview the rich barstards who pat each other on the back.
|
Sounds like a great way to spend the afternoon!
I'm stuck at work...but I work at the racing radio station so I can see all the races at least. Go Pentura in the Arrowfield! |
back $50 on shes meaner & $10 on the quad 11 , 8 , 16 , 6 , took me quicker to place my bets than scull my pint ,Mate looks like ill be home next year for a wedding well have to catch up & maybe go to the races :-)
|
Awesome, sounds good.
So who wins the BMW? Will Tuesday Joy handle the wet? I'm thinking about putting a place bet on Pentathon. He's a tough old bugger, and will handle the wet - he'll like it more than Princess Coup will at least. |
ive gone princess coup in the quaddie just seen them in the mounting yard & they all looked pretty relaxed, remember being at flemington for chosirs win & he was white as a sheet funny the difference between distance & sprinters
|
Ben harpers Faded thru the speakers & the wife & kids gone for the afternoon sometimes lifes GOOD :-)
& THE BEERS COLD |
Not much better than cold beer.
What a ride by Beadman there. Again I'm not totally happy with Oliver's effort on the Princess. But she probably wouldn't have won anyway this time. |

Racing on the other channel........................................... .................................................. .................GO MURPHS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>LOOKS WET!!!!
|
Rosehill's had awesome racing today despite the wet track.
Which is great, because NZ racing today has been complete crap. Wet tracks everywhere and all the good horses are getting beat in photo finishes by rubbish old mudders. |
Wow.
His acceleration at the top of the straight, in heavy ground, was amazing. That's his best performance so far IMO. |
what was racing to win jock thinkin ?
TOld You My Lovely Miss ;-) |
