who's running ???

Secretariat 07-20-2006 08:57 AM

how about the Kentucky derby winner from 2005, back for more!

More than 14 months after his upset win in the Kentucky Derby and four months since his last start, Giacomo will make a comeback in Saturday's $250,000 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar.

Gander 07-20-2006 09:00 AM

Not sure who else is running. Not expecting a stellar field with Lava Man out until the Pac Classic. I mean who else could there possibly be? Sure Cat is out. Whatever happened to High Limit?

Yeshesapistol just ran in that race versus Declans Moon. Bringing a horse like this back off of a week? I mean his recent form has been very suspect.

Maybe they are thinking a theft job?

Secretariat 07-20-2006 09:06 AM

Confirmed as starters in the race are

Giacomo
Papi Chullo, with Patrick Valenzuela aboard;
Preachinatthebar, Jon Court;
Publication, Victor Espinoza;
Rathor, Garrett Gomez;
Southern Africa, Alex Solis; and
Spellbinder, Corey Nakatani.

thats 7, okay...

Giacomo finishes last or 2nd to last in this race.

Gander 07-20-2006 09:55 AM

I dont know how anyone can like Giacomo in this spot. Off layoff, short odds, never been much of a winner, not very much speed lined up. No thanks. Has he ever run at Del Mar?

zippyneedsawin 07-20-2006 09:56 AM

I'll take my chances with Rathor in this group.

if you remember back in time, i posted giacomo was Romans leading horse based upon his time data. he had the fastest time
predicted to 10f. i posted 4 of the 6 top runners. but it didn't matter because my bets didn't include closing argument. the only reason i bet gicamo then, and broke even on the day, was because of his fast times projected to 10f.

further, his times to 10f where primarily projeted off races from 8 to 9f. he had some of the best times at 8, 8.5 and 9f,
the question for me 2 derbies back was could he get the distance, not was he fast enough.

granted he has had surgery, and may not be as quick,
will he win this, prolly not, hit the board, i think so
TODAY, but again i need PP data, should be free on delmar site later today.

I think Giacomo picks up 3rd or 4th but is well behind the winner. Depends on who goes though - pace wise. His connections arent expecting to win. Per DRF Shirreffs said that 8.5f is definitely not his best and he just wants to see him moving foward late.

Dixie Meister has been a solid win/place horse all year and is my tentative pick.

just out of memeory, and that don't mean its accurate, i thought DxM was better a little longer. and i read the sheriffs article, i thought , again based upon his work at 3 he was better at the shorter distance ??? i dunno??

i wou't leave Giacomo out as of now. i'm gonna look for the PP data.

Secretariat 07-20-2006 10:19 AM

Dixie Meister should be good to go this distance - he won the Californian last time out over some that he faces in here - Preachin & Spellbinder for sure as my computer isnt taking to the PDF link at the moment.

As for Giacomo, here's the Shirreffs quote from DRF

Quote:

"A mile and a sixteenth doesn't play to him anyway," Shirreffs said. "You'd like to see him moving forward. We need a nice finish."

Pedigree Ann 07-20-2006 10:28 AM

Giacomo is an honest, hard-trying horse but he is dreadfully one-paced. He doesn't quicken to run past horses, he must depend on them to get tired in front of him. He can win if and only if (in math we abbreviate that as iff) there is a really fast pace in front. Like in last year's Pacific Classic, that had those insane fractions (and demonstrated loads of Lava Man's intestinal fortitude). If you can project such a pace in this race, he's in the mix.

perhaps he is trying to fool the competition into thinking the horse isn't ready, and at the same time seems to be fooling some of the wagering public. thats okay keep his price up.

Secretariat 07-20-2006 10:33 AM

link works for me dude.

new computer time ??

Nah, computers fine it just runs slow when getting PDFs sometimes. Got it to work now - cant wait to start capping for the weekend. I'm getting antsy

paisjpq 07-20-2006 10:37 AM

if Papi Chullo goes I'm for him.

Secretariat 07-20-2006 10:38 AM

he is in the money three times at this distance,
in the pollywood futurity he was 1 length behind declans moon in second and beat the BCJ champion wilko! carrying 121.
south africa was 4th in this one.

he will prolly carry less and be a good price.

Anyway I think this is certainly a tough race to analyze. I like Papi Chullo and
Preachinatthebar but most of these horses are about the same in terms of talent, so it will be a tough one.

Gander 07-20-2006 04:42 PM

Lose yourself in the moment, the music, you only get one shot, do not miss this opportunity it may be the only mother fuc-kin opportunity you get.

hes nervous, vomit on his sweater, Mom's spaghetti.

Hes chokin, everybodys choking now. But the words wont come out.

Its back to the lab again, whooops their goes gravity, whooops their goes gravity. Food stamps dont buy diapers.

Yeah yeah. The same nonsense you spit every time you've been embarrassed. "I don't want to argue," "This is childish," blah blah blah. Your actions show an entirely different attitude.

But fine. Your wish shall be granted. Continue with the San Diego discussion.
