Try to name a worse Grade II winning colt...

...than Anak Nakal.

IrishofNDMan 03-25-2008 09:07 AM

I think Anak Nakal still takes it.

slotdirt 03-25-2008 09:13 AM

I can name a worse GI winning colt. Would that count?

cmorioles 03-25-2008 09:24 AM

The worst G1 winning filly has to be Sutra. For a colt, how about Commendable?

cakes44 03-25-2008 09:37 AM

Didn't Sutra receive like a 76 BSF for her GI win?

cmorioles 03-25-2008 09:40 AM

68

slotdirt 03-25-2008 10:01 AM

I always go with Colonial Colony as my worst GI winner, but that's just me.

who won that 2yo filly stake at belmont in the past few years that was in a real slow time?

Other than Sutra?

cmorioles 03-25-2008 10:25 AM

Rockamundo (G2) was pretty bad.

He was 16-1-2-1 lifetime with five figure earnings if you take away his 100+/1 odds win in the Arkansas Derby under a rail skimming ride from Calvin Borel for trainer O J Glass Jr.

cmorioles 03-25-2008 10:44 AM

It was a bizarre track as well. A horse of his dubious quality produced one of the fastest runnings of the race.

Seek Gold with his Grade 1 win in the Stepen Foster at 91/1 under Borel was probably just as bad.

He got dusted in a nothing stake at Tampa - and the horse was all but given away a few months prior.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-25-2008 10:58 AM

Bull Inthe Heather won the Gr 1 Florida Derby - but was 2-for-32 other wise, and the majority of his career earnings came from the Florida Derby.

Free Spirits Joy won the Super Derby when it was a Grade 1 race with a $1 million purse. He was 35/1 and rode the rail under Borel (who probably carried the same buzzer that day as he did when he rode Rockamundo and Seek Gold)

Best Pal, Olympio, and Lite Light were all in that race.

NoLuvForPletch 03-25-2008 11:11 AM

I think Sarava fits the bill. He won a MSW, the Sir Barton and the Belmont. He is still eligible for a NW3X...

parsixfarms 03-25-2008 11:24 AM

For a Grade I winner, I'd have to go with Scorpion.

cmorioles 03-25-2008 11:28 AM

I always assumed Giacomo was the worst. He was much better than some of these now that I think about it. Of course, why would I ever have thought about it before?

KirisClown 03-25-2008 11:34 AM

This list could be a mile long....

I'll start with Marylebone..

Sightseek 03-25-2008 11:56 AM

Cowtown Cat

The Indomitable DrugS 03-25-2008 12:45 PM

Jazil

I forgot about him until now!

I think he updated it around Seek Gold time. New technology...

philcski 03-25-2008 03:04 PM

I think it's Sutra, hands down. I seriously have never witnessed a worse race in person, ever. The field was awful and they ran WORSE than awful.

cakes44 03-25-2008 03:14 PM

The reason I used "colt" in my topic was because I actually assumed everyone would go with Sutra if I just said horse. Yes, Sutra was awful.

slotdirt 03-25-2008 03:43 PM

God bless his soul, but what about A Huevo? He won the DeFrancis IIRC.

A Huevo could run - he won a Grade 1 stake sprinting (I believe with a good figure) late in the season at age 7, and had only had single digit starts in his career prior.

I could see him being on the list of most fragile Grade 1 winners ever - but he could flat out run.

KirisClown 03-25-2008 04:38 PM

Add her to the list...

The Indomitable DrugS 03-25-2008 04:49 PM

Is that Jilbab?

If so, I don't think she was all that bad. I'd have to see her PP's again though.

The Indomitable DrugS 03-25-2008 05:04 PM

Here is A Huevo's form ... note the monster layoff.

Has there ever been another horse to win a Grade 1 race in career start #7, in November of their 7-year-old season?

And keeping with the 7's - this guy ran 7th at Mountaineer two starts before his Grade 1 win.

He either won by clear margins - or was trounced in all his races.

Yeah, thats her...

Other than a win in the CCA Oaks over immortals such as Tarnished Lady and Shop Til You Drop, she didnt do much...
