British Invasion of Saratoga!

I put this here-but move if needed.

Tickets went on sale about an hour ago for the SPAC concert for the Police and Elvis Costello-after racing on Friday August 1st. :)

On another Saratoga related note. How dare they close the Church Street Price Chopper

blackthroatedwind 02-23-2008 10:02 AM

I'm sure the $250 ticket price is a big hit.

On the Price Chopper issue......just another example of the needs of the less fortunate being ignored in this country. Then again, Saratoga did just elect a Republican mayor, though I doubt you can pin this act of greed on him. It would be nice, however, if some reasonable alternative could be worked out. Somehow, though, I doubt it.

For a band that hasn't done any new material in years  I'll just listen to thier old CD's and use my money elsewhere.

Was the Church Street Price Chopper the official supermarket of the poor?

It's not that as much as it is the only market that is accessable for people without cars.

If I had to choose, I'd rather pay that to see Elvis than this reincarnation of the Police

Agreed.

Of course, I would rather do just about anything rather than see Sting or the Police.

ok..I'll edit and take further..I would pay $250 NOT to sit through a Police show today

but..if it was 1980-81 and they only had two albums out, I think I'd show up..you?

Coach Pants 02-23-2008 10:42 AM

I paid $250 apiece for McCartney tickets for the Driving USA Tour and The US Tour.

Well worth it.

I wouldn't, but that is just personal preference, but I think McCartney is still relevant and does enough of the Beatles stuff...right?..that it's a great show.

I'd pay $250 to see Led Zep reunion, Pearl Jam-Who combo ( if they do that again) and that may be about it

Yes he does.

I'd like to see The Who...Led Zep, Peal Jam not so much.

I never liked the Police.

I paid $250 face to see the Who do Tommy at Radio City Music Hall back in the late 80s. But, it was a benefit, so I felt all warm and fuzzy inside.

Had a chance in '83, $50 tickets.....passed!

Not that it's not now, but $250 in the late '80s was a hunk of coin

Saw the Who many times from '81 on...indoors, outdoors...Roger always delivered..sometimes Pete was up to it, sometimes the guitars off stage carried them

Kids Are Alight still a great DVD to pull out every so often

Coach Pants 02-23-2008 10:59 AM

I'd pay $500 to see Joy Division. :(

I meant to tell you, there's a documentary about them that is playing at Lincoln Center a few times this week. It doesn't have a distributor but maybe it will get a DVD release sometime. If I check it out I'll let you know.

Mortimer 02-23-2008 11:38 AM

I wouldn't pay $250 to see Sting play Johnny Be Bad on his lead bass guitar.

I wouldn't pay $250 to see anybody.

And most of these wretches grew out of the "flower children...everyone's your brother / sister" era.

You could probably still see Buddy Guy today for a $10 cover charge and still have more fun and "ah don't care's" than a barrel of elitist, overhyped, grossly overpaid drunks and drug addicts.

First of all.......you don't have $250.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way......I highly doubt you can see Buddy Guy for $10 unless you run into him on the street.

Mortimer 02-23-2008 11:50 AM

Oh that's friggin' low.

But if I did...I still wouldn't.

Oh really?

It wasn't that long ago he would play local, little spots for the very same opposite reason these archaic rapists play the big bucks scene

And I did TOO meet those 3 guys.

blackthroatedwind 02-23-2008 11:53 AM

I agree that concert prices are clearly out of control but I honestly think it's not completely because of greed by performers. What has happened is that so many seats, especially good seats, end up in the hands of scalpers, due to the corrupt Ticketmaster ( that only the Dead and Pearl Jam had the balls to take on ), and these scalpers marked up the prices substantially. The increased prices became almost a necessity in order to minimalize scalping.

Mortimer 02-23-2008 11:54 AM

Gee...Microsoft could not have said it better.

I understand it's an excuse, and Pearl Jam and Springstein seem to be about the only two who are willing to put forth the effort to counteract scalpers, but it is a big picture.

I wanted to see Neil Young earlier this year but refused to pay over $200 a ticket. It sucks.

I am seeing Clapton and Winwood Monday.

I can't remember the group they put together briefly, but the album was great stuff...a rather risque cover.

Even so.....if you're paying more than $50....don't tell me.

blackthroatedwind 02-23-2008 12:05 PM

Actually, I'm only going because the seats aren't great, and thus are only around $60. I would never have paid $250.

Frankly, as much as I loved Clapton years ago, I think he sucks these days. Hearing Dear Mr. Fantasy, however, might be worth the price.

Mortimer 02-23-2008 12:09 PM

Yes..that's the ticket---great song.

I agree he sucks big time anymore....not at all convincing as a bluesman. Notice he won't appear with Johnny Winter?

I can allow for the $60.

A steal these days even for the parking lot.

Tell Stevie I said"Hi."

blackthroatedwind 02-23-2008 12:15 PM

Have you ever heard any of the versions the Dead did of Mr. Fantasy? Brent and Garcia traded off the lyrics. Not as good as the original ( I love " Welcome to the Canteen " ) but pretty good.

Fine work.

Mortimer 02-23-2008 12:34 PM

Uh...for some reason I keep getting connection problem pop ups.

I have been experiencing strange problems at this site the last week. Apparently someone here don't like me.

I only say this to make clear I am not being snobby...it's just that sometimes I have to get off a few minutes because of this problem.

For some reason, also, I never got into the Dead....don't know why.

And though my faith may seem blind.....there is a deep rooted method to what some people may call madness.

My faith is 'blind' as well. It hasn't done me very many favors...

Mortimer 02-23-2008 01:21 PM

Does it freeze on you, too? What about ghost pm's....posts that won't post and when they do it's in double or triplicate?

And I said my faith is not blind.

I just don't have any.

I'd rather blind faith than none at all. ;)

Mortimer 02-23-2008 01:25 PM

I hope certain parties now become aware of these malfunctions. If you and me have them...there must be more.

And nothing could make you to be a bigger goober than you already are.

Unless it would be blind faith.
