Who is William Buick?

Jockey William Buick is names to ride for Todd Pletcher in a MSW at Gulfstream tomorrow in race six. Any idea who this is? he has no stats for the year.

Paul

An English rider I believe.

Should be worth a chuckle or two.

pweizer 02-08-2008 01:50 PM

Is the jockey colony that bad that he needs to import someone to ride for him?

An apprentice who had 67 winners last season.

It is in NY.....maybe not at Gulfstream. Sounds Coolmore related....but that's just a guess.

Coach Pants 02-08-2008 02:30 PM

Coming across the pond to race at the Aqueduct Merry-Go-Round.

Let the hilarity begin.

Don't think so but I'd have to check.

He's about 18 or so and pretty good. I think so anyway.....

A bit about Buick, for anyone who cares....

Thanks, that is very helpful. I wonder how he ended up at Gulfstream for one race (and on a first time starter at that).

It's probably a fair guess he has been working horses for Todd to get more experience.

You might remember about ten years ago that two Italian kids were working for Mott and at least one of them rode a handful of races. His name was something like Botti.

brockguy 02-08-2008 06:28 PM

he's the best apprentice in England and he's a good jockey for his age.. has no coolmore links to my knowledge..

having a quick scan through his record, his biggest win was probably Dark Missile at Royal Ascot this year. He was also 3 for 3 on that useful but tricky horse The Illies now with Godolphin..

And why would my Countrymen be worth a chuckle:(

Gotodubai 02-10-2008 08:02 AM

:) I think I remember Mr. Pletcher did the same with Jammie Spencer a few years ago. This young man must have galloped this horse in the A.M., now gets his chance. Good Luck!!! Finish Strong!!!!!!:)

cmorioles 02-10-2008 08:06 AM

The race was yesterday. At least he didn't fall off. He also had a good view of how every other jockey finishes a race.

NoChanceToDance 02-10-2008 11:17 AM

Give him a couple of years and he will be one of the best. The one problem he will have is his weight. Not that he will be too big, but too small. He doesn't weigh much at all.

Probably the best apprentice over here last season.

A nice lad, too. Prepared to work (and play) very hard!

I have a diet plan that can solve that issue

I thought it was prtty cool that, within a 24 hour period, Buick won the Million and the G1 Prix Morney at Deauville.

Buick actually rode a 44-1 winner in the EP Taylor last year, a horse that I think that was transferred to the barn of Gerald Butler, the trainer of Bev D participant Pachattack. His ROI in NA is very healthy with yesterday's win combined with last year's bomb.

I want you all to go to a mirror right now.

Stick all the fingers of either hand into your mouth and close your mouth...make your eyes big.

That's William Buick, born in 1953.

CCD,

If you didn't look like a '53 Buick.....your mouth is too big.

All the best,

What's the significance of a 53 Buick? Just curious...there must be a reason why you put that in there. It's not like seeing a 70 Challenger all souped up ya know.

clyde 08-22-2010 06:03 PM

^^^^ Must be from the land down under.

It's called that for a reason.
