NH Primary

The Obama-Clinton-Edwards-Richardson straight superfecta looks like a 1/5 shot in the betting as far as the democratic race goes.

The scramble for 3rd between Paul, Huckabee, and Guliani looks like the most lively battle tonight.

Clinton is finally paying the price for her insane strategy of positioning herself to the right of every single candidate in this primary - it's almost as if no one explained to her that she could shift further right after she actually had her party opposition defeated.

I caught enough of a few early debates to come to this conclusion. And was amazed.

It certainly was not as dramatic as Joe Liberman's primary showing four years ago...when he refused to adjust and position himself further left while sharing the same stage with the likes of Kucinich, Carol Mosley-Braun, and Sharpton - thus quickly turning into a fringe candidate getting booed by members of his own party.

She probably could have overcome that tactical blunder if not for John Edwards keeping her feet to the flame - and doing so at his own expense - coming off way angrier than he's ever come off.

Of course, in '04, Dick Gephardt (who won the '88 Iowa primary previously) ran a tough and negative race against Howard Dean (who worked for Gephardt in '88) very much at his own expense. Those two had a seeming stronghold on the top two spots in Iowa until very late - when Kerry and Edwards took advantage of the hostile firefight, and made tremendous gains in the final two days to take the top two spots.

Basically, I think Clinton has put herself on the ropes because of tactical stupidity combined with Edwards taking the sacraficial position of going negative against her.

I think it's probably a lot more that than it is Obama turning it on late - as though all accounts in the press would suggest.

As for the Republicans - Huckabee - the once obese Arkansas Gov. who used to be a frequent Bill Maher guest when I watched him - he is smooth as silk and I didn't find his Iowa "upset" of Romney all that shocking.

I think he's far more a Jimmy Carter type than a bible beating type - and would love nothing more than to see him win the GOP nomination - which is almost an impossibility I would think.

From what I've seen - Romney has done and said everything perfect so far - sucks to be a mormon I guess.

McKean and Guliani are the two serious contenders - I don't like Guliani's strategy...but he really had no other choice.

To me - it looks like we have all the makings of an Obama V McKean match-up.

In a perfect world it would be Kucinich V Paul ...... but what can you do?

Coach Pants 01-08-2008 06:27 PM

Who is McKean?

The Indomitable DrugS 01-08-2008 06:36 PM

Look, I'm trying to show I can top Cannon as far as versatility goes - it was Pakistan last week - poltical primaries this week - next week I might go an entire day without spelling anything wrong. Perhaps grammatically shine the week after - stay tuned.

bigrun 01-08-2008 06:39 PM

LEAVE HILLARY ALONE! SHE'S A HUMAN BEING!..ANYONE THAT PICKS ON HER WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH ME!...JUST STOP IT!....

My impression of that YOUTUBE nut job screaming about Bittany....not bad huh....

I felt this was an underrated effort:

Hillary is kicking some ass in the early returns.

Maybe that whole last minute choking back tears moment in the late stages was a stroke of genius.

I'm waiting for Cannon to chime in though.

Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton

We get what we deserve.

Danzig 01-08-2008 09:40 PM

since i think foreign policy is our biggest issue, which candidate has the most experience in that regard? or offers the best hope for a less than rocky four/eight years after bush?

McCain.

Danzig 01-08-2008 09:50 PM

that's what i figured. i wanted him eight years ago....but nooo, bush had to get the nomination.
i do like some of gulianias federalist leanings. don't care for him personally, not that that matters.
huckabee makes me want to throw up. i can't stand him. god forbid i have to have him as president after having suffered with him as governor.
i just think all the top runners for the dem nod have a lack of experience, except maybe bill richardson, and he is lagging badly.

Plus Richardson has the whole turkey neck thing going for him. You figure if he was the least bit serious about running for prez he would've had that sucked out.

Danzig 01-08-2008 09:54 PM

i heard on the radio that part of ron pauls platform is getting rid of the federal income tax, and not replacing it. yeah, he's got a shot....

ArlJim78 01-08-2008 10:01 PM

what happened to concession speechs? Obama is giving a speech that rivals any convention acceptance speech.

its all over but the counting, McCain will be the next pres.

Danzig 01-08-2008 10:06 PM

well, yeah, it is....but foreign policy goes hand in hand with it.

really tho, domestic issues seem to be handled more by congress, but the president has always been acknowledged as the pace setter on our foreign affairs. and that goes hand in hand with a HUGE, global economy. i think the economy pretty much is too huge for the pres to fix or screw up, altho they all always tend to grab the praise when it goes well!

take the housing market. when the banks were giving loans to all who asked, they had to know it would correct itself. it was a balloon waiting to burst. then when it goes tits up, the banks want the govt to 'do something'. you didn't want the govt to do something when you were careless, but now when you have to pay the piper, it's a different story....

and i digress...

i just think people get caught up too much in details, in the mundane, when it comes to electing a president. that's where your local and state reps come into play, the every day business of governing your community and the state.
the presidency is different. it's not like people call the ceo when their paycheck has a mistake...

he is very flowery.

Coach Pants 01-08-2008 10:13 PM

So I guess no one agrees with me that the turkey neck hurts Richardson? Don't give your fellow Americans that much credit. It matters to them.

A daring forecast.

I think its totally up for grabs
and all of this is happening way
too early anyway. Some of these people
are supposed to be running the
country, not their mouths.

Ron Paul has got his tin foil hat on.
So thats about 9% of New Hampshire
Republicans who are retarded. Less than the Houston,
Texas area, but still significant.

And if McCain does win, will somebody
please take the butter knife away from
the prospective First Lady's makeup supply.
She is taping and floating
her face. This is a woman who shops at
Home Depot for her beauty items.
Takin odds her milk glands are fake also.

OK so she may HAVE been hot. But dammit
we all get old. So just be old, ugly, and aware of it.
Why is this so hard to do? I find it stunningly
easy.

And I thank you.

One worked out with the goal of banging an 18yo chick in mind (always a noble cause for sure!)

As you can see.....

The other worked out with the goal of becoming more viable to make a run at being the Republican version of Jimmy Carter.

I need to give it up with the politics. I already jinxed Obama.

huck got a law passed down here about vending machines in schools. high school kids are no longer allowed to buy a bag of chips out of the machines. he got skinny and wants everyone else to do the same--a noble cause for sure....of course studies showing kids gain weight in the summer while out of school, away from those horrible vending machines had no bearing. and let's not even talk about personal choice, as that has no bearing with mr huck. now i understand he wants a federal ban on smoking--it is bad for you, you know.

but then, some say the same about gambling, drinking, porn, trans fats, sodium, fried foods, sugar, etc etc. but i'm sure it's all for our own good.

geeker2 01-09-2008 06:47 PM

I think everyone needs to take a hard look at Duncan Hunter.

Anyone that has campaigned as long as he has without even an acknowledgement by the media must have some redeeming value..

If he would just cry or maybe scream out "...and we're going to Washington to take back the White House eeeeyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"

He might stand a chance.....

He had a huge lead in the polls with 24 hours to go - and he supposedly goes out for dinner with his family once the polls close.

He'd have had to come up with a concession speech right off the top of his head.

He didn't even seem to have enough time to change his music that played at the end of his speech.

It was probably the first time ever that a losing candidate had that Stevie Wonder song 'Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours' playing after his speech.

Obama is going to try and fine tune his message...he has hired Kelly Tilghman
as a consultant

ArlJim78 01-10-2008 10:01 AM

i see where Obama now has the support of John (f'n) Kerry.

I'm curious how other established party regulars are going to handle this fight. stick with the Clinton regime, or take a chance on the new guy?
