Peppers Pride races on Sunday
I think she has a chance to lose at 127 lbs...

Pepper's Pride owner Joe Allen on ATR with me yesterday... As down to earth a guy as you'll ever hear. Joel Marr, her trainer, was on after her last win.
HOUR 1 at :30 mark: http://www.thoroughbredracingradione...,14/Itemid,35/ Giving away 9-14 pounds is significant weight. Personally, I hope she keeps the streak alive. |

Caught the segment and it was great. Shows the best side of the sport when you have people like that. He was no honored to be on your show. Humble man.
Good job Steve. Spyder |
Hard to root against a horse like that or her connections.

Great segment of the show. Mr. Allen showed real class during the interview. Hope that 127 pounds doesn't slow her down too much. These are kinds of stories that really help.
|
I'd scratch with a weight assignment like that.

Very interesting interview with Joe Allen. Insofar as his regally bred sire Desert God (Fappiano/ Blush With Pride- Blushing Groom) is concerned, looking at his conformation pic one can see he is downhill. He appears off balance physically which may explain his unraced status.
However, with the right physical type of mare the sky is the limit with a sire carrying the royal genes of Desert God. |
I'm rooting for the 4, because that is the horse I'll bet. Otherwise, I hope the fave wins.
|
Another win for the undefeated filly. I had to settle for the consolation $10 exacta.

Way to go PP!:D

Hell yeah. Glad PP won again.

I was more impressed with the 2yo Monarchos colt that won the 7th.
He was 3-wide just like PP, but he was still a half second faster than her at the finish. Now, granted he was carrying less weight, but for a 2yo running at that track, I thought it was a strong performance. |

Her next start is March 23, a defense of her '07 win in the $100,000 Sydney Valenti, a 1 mile handicap for 3+ F&M's at Sunland. And her win the other day was typical of her... She does whatever she is asked to do to finish in front. There's nothing cheap about her beating horses giving away 8-15 pounds. |

Joe Allen makes a tremendous brisket

The Lebron James analogy is a bad one. It's not as if Pepper's Pride were some kind of Kentucky bred that was dropped in New Mexico (ala Funny Cide being a NY bred) and was beating up on a bunch of inferior Lobos. She's a New Mexico bred facing similar. And dominating. If this was a NY-bred or a Cal-bred winning 14 in a row, you wouldn't be taking this stance. |

It is a nice streak, and as Steve pointed out, winning that many races in a row against anybody is something of an accomplishment. But in reality, there are dozens of fillies and mares across the country that probably would have accomplished the same thing if they faced that kind of terrible competition. I don't think asking to see her win in open company is too much to ask before we heap tons of praise on her. |
I guess it just reminds me of the fact that it took Street Sense's defection for Rags to Riches to run in the Belmont. Think how differently she'd be viewed historically had she won the Acorn instead. I like to see horses get the chance to show what they are made of. Too often we are deprived of that. This horse has shown it has talent and guts to win 14 in a row. Now let's give her the chance to show how good she really is by taking on open company.

Nobody is saying that races like that shouldn't count. But in addition to those wins, Citation won the biggest races in the sport. Pepper's Pride has no "in addition." I'm not saying she needs to win a bunch of G1s to validate the streak, but it would be nice to see her actually compete against somebody that could actually run at some point in her career. |
