Has anyone ever made a successful Futures bet?

On the 1st round?

I would think Vegas would clean up here.

Maybe a Football bet on your favorite team, but with over a hundred horses, I can't find the CASH to send in.

;)

tiznowthegreat 12-04-2007 04:55 PM

I haven't, but does anybody have updated odds anywhere?

Strike the Gold at 25-1 in Feb(i think). Bad value, good result.

wac 12-04-2007 06:27 PM

I havent made many of them since the '04 (i think) BC i had 3 of the post time favs after i made the bets at least a month in advance and was so pumped to be getting like 7-1 on sightseek and some other good odds on storming home and ten most wanted and we all know how that turned out. I have watched a horse this year named Blackberry Road and posted on him earlier that i got him at 150-1 but do i expect to cash it? No but what the heck i figure if the horse is even in the gate on 1st Sat in May i'll feel like i at least made a good bet and have a chance. I think that future bets are just fun to make and follow the horse and you never know.

Not so bad. I had Smarty Jones in the 2nd and 3rd pools. Can't remember what the odds were, but nothing remotely approaching 25-1 and I cashed so I can't complain.

declansharbor 12-04-2007 06:54 PM

War Pass at 11-1 is the biggest bet against in the history of futures, lol...

Smarty Jones at 150-1 and Ghostzapper to win the Classic at 25-1.

If I never hit another in my life I'd be content with those two.

Here's a Link

Those Hilton Odds are bogus. Viewfrom vegas.com updates them weekly.

https://www.viewfromvegas.com/Odds_and_Ends.html

Horseplayer Daily also updates them every couple of weeks. I have never cashed. But I did have $50 on The Cliffs Edge at 150-1 made the bet in late November that year. Also had Action This Day a couple of years back at 100-1, he made the the race.

This year I have made 3 future bets. And will probably bet 2 more in early January once I see them on the workout tab.

turf fan 12-04-2007 08:56 PM

I had Captain Bodgit at 40-1. Tough beat by Silver Charm.
Same year, I had Arizona at 23-1 in NCAA basketball. Sorry Kentucky, nice cash!
This year I had Georgia at 40-1 in NCAA football. Everything fell inplace except the pollsters bumped the #7 and #8 teams past Georgia at #4.

Me and a buddy of mine do a handful every year, fully realizing that it's a bad bet. It's just fun to try and pick out a derby horse early. We only take them at big odds.

Here's what we have for this year (some bet in Sept. and some in Nov.)

J Be K 75-1
Ready's Echo 100-1
Sangaree 125-1
Major General 125-1
Wicked Style 125-1
Referee 150-1
Eaton's Gift 150-1
Cave's Valley 150-1
Paint 150-1
Aquarian 200 -1

hockey2315 12-04-2007 09:40 PM

Does anyone know what the odds are for Dennis of Cork (if he's even listed)?

I've already missed the wedding with Denis of Cork. Loved him first time out and couldn't get to the track that day.

I'd take some of that 150-1 on Referee...!

The fact that Borel took the ride when he had very little history with the trainer and Nafzger had a horse in the race was a big tip-off that he can run. . . He showed a lot of maturity in his debut. . .

KY_Sasquash 12-05-2007 09:50 AM

giacomo in the first pool-i recall he was 24-1 or something like that. didnt use him derby day

Denis of Cork wasn't listed as of 11/20, but after that win, I'm sure he was added. I'm guessing he's around the 75-1 range at Wynn.

jms62 12-05-2007 12:07 PM

I had Barbaro Offshore at Pinnacle..

That was the most impressive maiden win I've seen probably this year. Just like you said, for Borel to take him wide and to choose him over a Nafzger colt, and a good looking one at that, says a lot about what Borel thinks of the horse. Throw in the fact that his connections (who don't usally go out and spend 250,000) just bought him as a 2 year old in training says something as well.

By the way, hes currently 125-1 at the Wynn.

MISTERGEE 12-05-2007 04:21 PM

Giacomo

played giacomo very early at 50-1 because a good friend of the owner, paul loducca, who was the catcher for the marlins at the time gave him out as a good thing on believe it or not hank goldbergs radio show. thank you paul!

miraja2 12-05-2007 04:24 PM

I noticed New Approach on the Hilton list at 61/1.
Is there actually talk that he might come over?

I got Referee and Aquarian last week at Wynn.
My father lives in Nevada, so I have him stop by the Wynn occasionally and check the odds for me.
