King Jock is on his way.....
* * * UAE press, no author listed... Watson off to a flyer with four-timer Former champion trainer Doug Watson savoured an incredible opening night to the 2007-08 season, taking four of the six races on the Emirates Airline-sponsored card. And jockey Daragh O’Donohoe shared in the success, taking the three feature AED 70,000 races. Watson, who won his inaugural title in the 2006-07 season, said: “We’ve changed our plans a bit for the start of this season, and got them here ready to go, whereas the last couple of seasons, we left them with quite a bit to work on. “They’ve actually had a couple of decent pieces of work on the Nad Al Sheba track itself, rather than our training track, and it’s really paid off. “There are some good prizes to be had at the start of the season, so why not get them fitter for the start of the season?” The highlight of the four-timer looked to be the Fawzi Abdulla Nass-owned Jonquil, who used to be trained in Bahrain, and was having his first run on dirt in the Emirates Airline Stakes. “I’m really pleased for the owner, who has sent a few horses to us, like one of our stars from last season, Boston Lodge. Jonquil looks like being a really nice horse, and I’m pretty excited about him. “But, look I’ve just had four winners, and I’m just as thrilled about every one!” Dubai Racing Club and Emirates Racing Authority Board member Malih Lahej Al Basti, owned the first two winners of the four-timer, courtesy of Daybreak Dancer in the AED70,000 Emirates SkyCargo Trophy, and then they followed up in the Skywards Plate with Dawn Piper. Richard Mullen rode the fourth winner of Watson’s quartet, Ragad – but only just - edging out For Once by a nose in the concluding Emirates Holidays Handicap. South African apprentice Keagan Latham collected on his very first ride in the UAE after Knight Of Dance took the Arabian Adventures Classic. Latham was deputising for Wayne Smith, who suffered a minor injury in the morning, and said: “It was bad luck on Wayne, but it was a great thrill to win on my very first ride here. “I came here to ride work and pick up some rides and it’s been a dream start.” UAE jockey Ahmed Ajtebi continued his fine run of form, following his six wins from just 28 rides in the UK, after taking the opening race of the 2007-08 UAE season, the Emirates Hotels & Resorts Cup, courtesy of the Mohammed Ramadan-trained Purebred Arabian Raabob. |

Good luck to Dynamic Saint! :) Watson bids to celebrate Thanksgiving in style American trainer Doug Watson hopes to celebrate Thanksgiving Day in style by taking the AED110,000 Mustaqbali Trophy, the highlight of the Commercial Bank of Dubai-sponsored card at Nad Al Sheba tomorrow night. With only six declared, Watson’s Dynamic Saint could be the one to beat in the 2000m conditions race, although stable companion Elmustanser, returning from a lay-off, has an undoubted touch of class. Just four-years-old and having only his eighth start, Dynamic Saint took the Winter Racing Challenge Final (2000 metres) last season before winning at the 2007 Dubai International Racing Carnival. Owned by HE Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed al Maktoum, he is the mount of Ted Durcan who is looking forward to reacquainting himself with the horse. He said: “I sat on him the other morning and he was in great form. He has really strengthened up over the summer and Doug is delighted with him. Doug has found an ideal race for his return and he should go well.” Elmustanser, who was last in the 2005 Dubai World Cup (a race won by his full-brother Almutawakel in 1999) and placed in two runnings of the concluding round of the Group 2 Maktoum Challenge, could pose a danger Watson is glad to have him back on the track after missing last season, saying: “He has had a long break but hopefully we have him back near his best. Obviously he will improve for the run and I am looking forward to running them both. “Dynamic Saint is an exciting prospect and the first time we have really been able to nurture a good, young horse throughout his career. If Sheikh Rashid agrees, the Jebel Ali Stakes and Dubai International Racing Carnival would be likely options.” Racing opens with the second most valuable race on the card, a AED 70,000 race for Purebred Arabians in which Eric Lemartinel’s Daffah will be hard to beat if adapting to dirt. If Daffah does not handle the surface, Satish Seemar’s quartet of Royal Epic, Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Van Nistelrooy look the most likely winners. Slight preference is for the last-named – one of three named by HE Sheikh Rashid after Manchester United players, though now plying his trade in Spain. |
Good luck to Dynamic Saint and Doug :)

Quebec Citizen Opportunist. Gulf of Gold Esquire Daybreak Dancer Lover Boy Changing Wind Tabreed (..... and Bonecrusher, just cause I like him). :) |
Fan of bonecrusher, too.
I'm worried about Parole Board. I've had a quick look around and i can't find him anywhere? Anyone know of any Brazilian horses we could be seeing in the next few months? I also look forward to seeing them, they always do so well at the carnival. |

Like him too. Nice old guy. :) Don't know if he can win... I'm trying to remember if I saw him win last season. I DO remember him in that race with Quijano, Hattan, and Ampelio..... * * * On Parole Board..... This is just a thought but he was exported around the same time as Ace-ie and was with Satish..... India? I can email Satish and ask my connection in India but can't promise a timely answer. |
Fantastic Love didnt run to much in the past few years, but I think is the class in the race, and with the tipe of None winners also, I do believe he has a chance. Lets GO LOVE:o

Thanks, I just always liked watching him (Parole Board), he offered so much and had all the ability in the world, but never really put it in on the track.
He used to be trained in Newmarket (with Michael Bell, i think.... my memory is dreadful) and i saw him doing som easy work a few times and there was a big buzz about him. I remember him being a big hope for the UAE Derby a few years back. Hope he's okay. |

Good news for the two ex English winners.
Fantastic Love was a nice horse for Mark Johnston, lost his way with Godolphin after a while (don't they all  ) and now he looks to be slowly getting back to himself. Daybreak Dancer has been very consistant in Dubai since he has been there and there should be a few more wins for him in the coming months. Well done to Doug and Daragh. |
Also, i'm glad to see Rory Cleary getting good mounts in Dubai. He is a very good jock in my opinion. He lost his brother in a horror fall a few years back. I happened to be in Ireland when that happened, it was very sad. He died in hospital as we were on the ferry on the way back to England.
Rory made a pledge to try and win the race named after his brother each year, i'm pretty sure he won it this year. He's a good jock and a nice lad. |
