The Green Monkey: I'll be the first to say it

He's done enough.

NoChanceToDance 09-15-2007 01:42 PM

Very disappointing

Fuofa 09-15-2007 01:42 PM

The Green Flunkie will be appearing on the Fair Circuit this time next year.

Bet u didn't even need a high speed camera to get the picture of this one. He wasn't moving that fast.

What u didnt see was the scrapes on his hocks...........From the ambulance that trails the races, kept going up behind him and giving him the "bump and run" cause he was going so slow!!!

sumitas 09-15-2007 02:34 PM

Quite a call by Durkin. Very fast post on youtube. Very impressive effort.

ddthetide 09-15-2007 02:48 PM

may 25th, someone on this board told me, "i've seen the horse and he can't run a step!" looked like a pretty good assessment.

actually, and you can ask drugS about this one, i saw his 2yo sale workout before he sold and thought he'd go for around 100k, not 16 mil.

he didnt look good at all.

Danzig 09-15-2007 03:23 PM

well, at this rate, about 3200 starts, and he'll earn his purchase price back....

With Pletcher training him, he should make that 3200th start by the year 2647.

cowgirlintexas 09-15-2007 04:50 PM

I guess they needed more time with him..lol... Here's a quote by Pletcher after the race... :p
Quote:

Had he known beforehand the race would be run so quickly, Pletcher said the outcome would not have been surprising. “I could have told you, he probably wouldn’t have been ready for that,” he said.

Excellent, a redboard of an overpriced, poor running yearling sale graduate. Very creative!

geeker2 09-15-2007 05:29 PM

Would it not be fantastic to see his next start in a $40KMC..

great, just what we need, pletcher to think a horse needs even MORE time. apparently a year isn't enough....

geeker2 09-15-2007 06:30 PM

Todd says she should be able to run on the turf..she has "Green" in her name..

What really strikes me is how bad the name really sounds during a race call. I mean, if Durkin make that name sound good, nobody can. Even if he miraculously turns out great, he's a dud in name for all time. He should stand stud at that Green Monkey golf course. Seems fitting.

AeWingnut 09-15-2007 08:28 PM

I didn't think he was a sprinter so I bet everyone to show hoping that he would run out of the money. Yes, a very disappointing 3rd. Especially for those that wanted him to be no better than 4th.

yeah, true enough.

it's not like i ever slammed tgm on these boards before he ran.

i was probably his biggest fan and supporter on here.

eajinabi 09-16-2007 12:30 AM

Which was the most disapointing race for Michael Tabor?

1) The Green Monkey finishing a tiring third in his First Start?
2) The Leapord finishing an uninspiring 5th in the Futurity?
3) Rags To Riches losing the Gazelle?

Those three horses cost him a total of 20 million dollars.

_ed_ 09-16-2007 12:33 AM

I don't think they should be too disappointed with Rags, she should improve a lot from that run and was game in defeat.

The other two have given them something to think about though.

Rags was probably the biggest disappointment. The other two are just plain slow horses. She's the only one with talent.

justindew 09-16-2007 01:15 AM

On the other hand....

...perhaps Pletcher is right, and The Green Monkey ISN'T a sprinter. If that's the case, was today's effort really that bad?

I hope TGM becomes a great horse. Part of me thinks if he had a high degree of talent, he would have shown more today. However, I think we would all agree that one start does not make a career.

In the end, I would say his race was similar to getting an "F" on the first exam of the semester with 4 exams to go. It's still mathematically possible to get an "A" for the year. But you better study hard.

johnny pinwheel 09-16-2007 09:18 AM

what about the morons that made him 2/5. during the post parade pre race comments she actually said this horse has alot of class. i laughed and said to mt friend . the horse is almost 4 and hasn't raced, what class ? who in they're right mind would bet a horse like that at 2-5?

Danzig 09-16-2007 09:26 AM

i had tvg on, and .58 flat came on. i think it's a horrible show. was glad to see it end!

The Bid 09-16-2007 09:32 AM

He didnt run bad, they drilled the 6. He was just spinning early, hell win at that level and beyond. Not what you want for 16 million, but they usually arent when you pay that much.

King Glorious 09-16-2007 10:53 AM

Didn't this horse have that insane breeze before he was sold, where he went something like 20 and change? And he can't sprint? I don't buy it.

The Pletcher machine has been off the track for over 2 months now.

ultracapper 09-17-2007 01:25 AM

don't worry about the horse. he got fed and washed down and galloped and everything. he doesn't know he cost 16mil and that he looked like a joke. he's clueless.

he got fed, he's happy. when he starts breeding, he'll be even happier. 16mil, 16dollars, he doesn't care.

Good insight. Does he like baby carrots or regular carrots?

Who's going to send a mare to him? There are pleny of Forestry's out there...

whodey17 09-17-2007 01:13 PM

Who cares what he does on the track. The most he would ever make on the track (if he was any good) would be about $1mm to $2mm. But he might prove to be a useful sire. You never know what he may pass on that he doesn't have. Genetics is a funny thing. Watch him father 5 Grade I winners out of his first 3 years at the shed. Now that would be funny.

Indian Charlie 09-17-2007 01:32 PM

i read a quote of JRV saying that he wants to run longer.

lol
