This is really only applicable to a small % of the nation (unfortunately)... I'm happy that my retirement account has made 20% so far this year but that doesn't help me fill up my gas tank, pay for a gallon of milk or keep my cousin safe who's serving in Iraq :(

Bush has made poor choices... and everyone BUT the rich are paying for it (at least right now, but probably not in the long run).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a crazed liberal but I'm also not in the top 1% that can afford things the way they are... I think we need to take care of "here" before we worry about "there"... and there's more to a comfortable life than the stock market :o

Terrorism is not a threat, it's a concept - and if you don't fear it, it has little impact on your life. Scary things happen all the time, people die and life goes on. No matter what happens to Americans, we fight, we persevere, and we survive. No one, no experience can stop my desire to live the type of life that I want to live.

Why do we let the "terrorists" scare us? I really don't understand that

anybody that thinks that western civilization is NOT involved in a modern day holy war better get their head out of the sand.

i don't like American troops dying in the sand box but without our military and CIA in the middle east i truly believe the USA would have had car bombs going off in major cities since 9-11.

i posted this last week on another thread but i saw a great Marine bumper sticker.it read:
"It's God's job to judge the terrorist. It's our job to arrange the meeting"

Danzig 07-22-2007 08:35 AM

we went to the lincoln museum in springfield, ill on our jaunt thru mid-america. it was very good, i highly recommend it.

they had an area dedicated to political cartoons on abe. it was amazing, and somewhat sickening, to see how he had been portrayed--told tony that maybe bush isn't treated so bad after all! but there were many similarities to what was said about him then...

of course, we all know how that turned out. i wonder how many were thinking the u.s. was going to hell in a handbasket back then?

tell that to the dead of 911.....the non threatining terrorist concept that almost took out the entire arline industry...do you think a demo is going too do a roll back in gas prices......

here is how i see it..if we had a demo in charge ..after 911 we would be much worse off ..after 911 the arlines almost folded ..people were scared shitless..the dow plunged..america was looking for alittle payback..so we hunt binladen...tighten our boarders..now i see where a few mistakes were made..if in fact the oil was the real prize..we should of had a media black out and got it done.. imbedded reporters + snitches...now the we have the worst hurricane season in 30 years..also putting stress on the system ..insurence cos folding....tied into healthcare ..jobs..ect..its been a rough term for a guy who had to deal with alot and got some bad advice from a few he trusted,,,

and the concept thing..i have heard that the fbi and homeland have stopped at least 30 or so very real threats../plots / plans....its no made up thing..

trifecta124 07-22-2007 10:21 AM

Are you serious?

I guess living in Spokane WA you don't have to worry about terrorism.

Danzig,
Seriously, I don't see the connect between G W Bush and Lincoln other than both were Repuplicans.
One has done his darndest to destroy and divide nations through war and lies to substantiate. The other did his darndest to preserve the Union, honor the fallen, and seek freedom for all through honest discourse.
And, no, as some previous posters have stated, there's nothing "funny" about that.
Spin away. Believe what you do. As do I.

As always, the Dems are full of criticism with very little critical thinking. Everyone is a great Monday morning QB. We shouldn't have done this, but we should have done that.

Oh by the way, the Dems will lose again in 08. They have no platform.

depends on who you listen to regarding lincoln, depends on what side you were on. it cracks me up down here to hear people say that lincoln was a war criminal(the same people who say the south will rise again, whatever that means, that lee was a hero, etc), that he suspended habeus corpus (where else have i heard that lately?), his wife was a spy, was for the south, etc. it's very similar to now. it depends on 'what side you're on' now as well. for every person who says bush is wrong, you can find some who support his stance.
very curious to see how this will all shake out, and what bushes library one day will have. lincoln is history, bush is history in the making.

Don't think so. 28% vs 72% doesn't substanitate that claim.

And, Dahoss, I already told you that I don't take meds. No more insults please. Facts, huh?

ArlJim78 07-22-2007 11:35 AM

How quickly we forget. Anyone recall this story from last summer. This "concept" could have killed thousands if carried out.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/08/10/us.security/index.html

fortunately for us in the US we've managed to thwart several attacks in the concept stage, but the plans are real. Others haven't been so lucky.
Here is a list of ten major attacks that have been squashed since 2001.

1) The West Coast Airliner Plot: In mid-2002 the U.S. disrupted a plot to attack targets on the West Coast of the United States using hijacked airplanes. The plotters included at least one major operational planner involved in planning the events of 9/11.
2)The East Coast Airliner Plot: In mid-2003 the U.S. and a partner disrupted a plot to attack targets on the East Coast of the United States using hijacked commercial airplanes.
3)The Jose Padilla Plot: In May 2002 the U.S. disrupted a plot that involved blowing up apartment buildings in the United States. One of the plotters, Jose Padilla, also discussed the possibility of using a "dirty bomb" in the U.S.
4)The 2004 UK Urban Targets Plot: In mid-2004 the U.S. and partners disrupted a plot that involved urban targets in the United Kingdom. These plots involved using explosives against a variety of sites.
5)The 2003 Karachi Plot: In the Spring of 2003 the U.S. and a partner disrupted a plot to attack Westerners at several targets in Karachi, Pakistan.
6)The Heathrow Airport Plot: In 2003 the U.S. and several partners disrupted a plot to attack Heathrow Airport using hijacked commercial airliners. The planning for this attack was undertaken by a major 9/11 operational figure.
7)The 2004 UK Plot: In the Spring of 2004 the U.S. and partners, using a combination of law enforcement and intelligence resources, disrupted a plot to conduct large-scale bombings in the UK.
8)The 2002 Arabian Gulf Shipping Plot: In late 2002 and 2003 the U.S. and a partner nation disrupted a plot by al-Qa'ida operatives to attack ships in the Arabian Gulf.
9)The 2002 Straits of Hormuz Plot: In 2002 the U.S. and partners disrupted a plot to attack ships transiting the Straits of Hormuz.
10)The 2003 Tourist Site Plot: In 2003 the U.S. and a partner nation disrupted a plot to attack a tourist site outside the United States

yeah, they are. our citizens don't have much faith in any portion of our govt right now. dems ran on the notion of change, but have changed nothing.

i think bushes biggest mistake (other than going into iraq) was in not rallying the citizens behind the whole war on terrorism. he made it sound like it would have no impact, don't worry, go about your business--so a lot of people really think if it's not worth worrying about, how can it be worth dying for? if we don't need to worry about it, why are we losing soldiers? is it a big deal or not?

and on the other hand, you have people who don't worry about it--and really don't know much about what's going on. so you have a pollster call, and ask do you think the war should end? why sure they answer. i have a hard time taking polls seriously, when many people in this country wouldn't know the pres if they bumped into him on the street, can't name the vp, or the speaker, or even half of the supreme court.
oh, but they know all about lindsay lohan or angelina....

DaHoss,
Thanks for explaining.
I post in the "off topics-political room" to discuss current topics. This is not a crazy agenda.
Do you wish to discuss Bush and his failures...or me?
By the way, go to the "selections" thread and look at Guido's thread.
He asked for winners as he's a newbie. I gave him two winners out of four picks, and one was a loser at 30-1. How many have you put up lately?

so i jump ship in hong kong and make my way over to tibet, and i get on as a looper at a course over in the himalayas. a looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. so, I tell them i'm a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? the dalai lama, himself. twelfth son of the lama. the flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. so, i'm on the first tee with him. i give him the driver. he hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. do you know what the lama says? gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. so we finish the eighteenth and he's gonna stiff me. and I say, "hey, lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know." and he says, "oh, uh, there won't be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness." so I got that goin' for me, which is nice.
