She's a full sister to Megahertz..... :)

brockguy 06-21-2007 12:20 PM

I love this quote from Bolger regarding Finsceal Beo

"She is very well and I am very happy with her. I would be hoping to make it to double digits with her in terms of Group One victories at some stage in the future," he said.

"She has won three already so she is one third of the way there. She is very sound and her owners like to travel."

It'll be some race tomorrow..

I hope it will be a good one!

Any chance she comes to the Breeder's Cup? I read somewhere that Bolger wishes to keep her to a Mile though, which would not only mean travel, but taking on the boys.

It will be some race today, the horse i'm most looking forward to seeing is Mi Emma though, she looks the real deal.

They were thinking about stepping up in trip to 10f next week in the Pretty Polly at the Curragh but decided to race today (I dont think she'll run next week, but you cant be sure with this girl!).. Id be quite positive she'll step up at some stage.. and she could be all over the world this year trying to race in a fair few G1s.

Too bad they have already booked her to a stud next year....

brockguy 06-22-2007 07:55 AM

yeah, it really would, and hopefully we get to see Teofilo again at some stage...Im not too sure about that though..

_ed_ 06-22-2007 09:13 AM

Weather looks alright from the first few shots in this coverage...the Queen's arriving in sunlight. Hope it stays that way!

_ed_ 06-22-2007 09:37 AM

Nijoom Dubai
You'resothrilling
Baffled

Surprising result to start the day! Nijoom Dubai raced in midfield, hit the lead 2 furlongs out and held strongly. You'resothrilling took a while to get a clear run but had enough time to get past Nijoom Dubai, but the winner fought off the challenge and deserved the win. Those two finished well clear of Baffled who finished just ahead of Aide Memoir.

_ed_ 06-22-2007 09:46 AM

Post-race analysis has shown that You'resothrilling made a mess of the start and lost a couple of lengths, possibly had an effect on the outcome of the race.

Nothing should be taken away from Nijoom Dubai though, ran much better than the 50-1 odds suggested.

brockguy 06-22-2007 09:56 AM

yeah, YST jumped up at the start.. she had every chance and its debatable whether the energy she used up at the start cost her... still a high class prospect..

brockguy 06-22-2007 10:00 AM

bucketing down at ascot... not good for finsceal.

_ed_ 06-22-2007 10:13 AM

Yeah that was torrential. Looks like it's eased now and almost stopped, but it has definitely had an effect on the track.

Anyway:

Boscobel
Lucarno
Yellowstone

Wire to wire performance by Boscobel, beautifully rated in front and never really looked in doubt in my opinion. Lucarno ran well, and Yellowstone made good ground late.

brockguy 06-22-2007 10:15 AM

2nd and 3rd looked ready to pounce rounding the turn but the winner had more than enough in reserves... Im a bit disappointed with Lucarno as I expect big things from him..

_ed_ 06-22-2007 10:42 AM

Surprising to see that Mi Emma is now the favourite here.

This is probably the race I've been looking forward to more than any other race this week, should be great.

_ed_ 06-22-2007 10:52 AM

Indian Ink
Mi Emma
Darjina

 Not only did she win, she absolutely killed them! About six lengths at the line. Stunning. Mi Emma and Darjina both ran well but never had a hope once Indian Ink hit top gear.

Finsceal Beo was never comfortable with the ground, forget she ran.

I'm speechless.

Oh damn, I used her as an alt in the contest.

Must now go and smack myself! :D

Thanks for the updates! Happy to hear Yellowstone got up for a piece of it.

Bummer, hopefully Finsceal comes back ok.

Congrats to the Indian Ink supporters!

brockguy 06-22-2007 10:55 AM

huge run by indian ink.. mi emma and darjini battled for the minor money.. shame for finsceal. she came up cruising with 2 to go and found nothing. was gonna back the winner this morning but didnt think the rain would come in time for her...

NoChanceToDance 06-22-2007 11:01 AM

Ground must be soft for Indian Ink to win that easily. Seems to get soft very quickly at Ascot these days.

Back to Lucarno, the Derby form is already looking suspect for me. Thought he'd win today, but took him on because of the price. The Derby fourth gets beaten easily by a Hamilton winner last time out....... Our Derby is begining to look quite bad.

Ground against Mahler now, i reckon.

Lump on Pride Of Nation in the last!

It's an international trend really for the mile and a half 3yo races.

Only 1 of the last 3 NZ Derby winners has won another race (that being the wonderful Xcellent), the record of VRC Derby winners in recent times is even worse with the exception of Elvstroem, and with the likes of Jazil in last year's Belmont Stakes things aren't looking terribly healthy there either (although I'm certainly hoping Rags To Riches will prove me wrong).

Interesting to note that the G2 Great Northern Guineas over the equivalent of 1m 2f has been a much better race than our Derby in the last two years...both winners (Sculptor and Santagostino) have gone on to win in decent company in Australia since winning it.

She will! :D

You could guess that Afleet Alex, had he not gotten hurt, would have as well.

_ed_ 06-22-2007 11:27 AM

Yeah fair point.

The Wolferton:

Championship Point
Heaven Sent
Charlie Cool

Huge run right down the outside by Championship Point to just run down Heaven Sent in the final strides. A decent gap back to Charlie Cool in third. Favourite Emirates Skyline was 5th but only about a neck away from Charlie Cool.

Good to see the Derby contender of last year in Championship Point regain some form.

Is Heaven Sent little like her sister?

She is! Almost disappeared when Championship Point moved up beside her.

Were there any scratches in that race? Thanks.

Mahler
Veracity
Secret Tune

They didn't sound confident about him before the race but he's won it by 4. This has been a performance of a very promising stayer, carrying the same colours as Yeats. Unlikely to ever be anywhere near as good as his stablemate, because this was a performance that displayed much more in the way of stamina than class, but it looks to me like he'll be competitive in some of the same races.

Veracity and Secret Tune both stayed well, while Serengeti ran a game race on what was obviously unsuitable ground.

brockguy 06-22-2007 12:07 PM

when I saw Mahler earlier on this year, the saying "he stays longer than the mother in law" certainly applied. No distance is too long for him... a nice prospect...he saved my day...

brockguy 06-22-2007 12:15 PM

Pride of Nation looks unbelievably short at 7-2.. wouldnt be going near that at the price but could easily hose up.. With the results on offer today I'd love to see an old favourite (and former G1 winner!!!) Bahamian Pirate win it...

Binanti
Fajr
Dabbers Ridge

The winner was leaning on the runner-up throughout the last furlong and won by about a length - apparently the siren has sounded. I'm not going to be sticking around to find out the result of the enquiry though. :p

Night!

Besides, even if it's been a bad day, I'm sure it'll be better tomorrow :).
