Hong Kong raiders - Yasuda Kinen
Stupid JRA making everyone wait.....
Bullish Luck and Floral Peg have better things to do. Four raiders in quarantine, just incase..... Tuesday, May 8, 2007 HK quartet enter quarantine in bid to reach Japan ALAN AITKEN Four of Hong Kong's top horses entered quarantine yesterday with connections hopeful of a tilt at the Yasuda Kinen in Tokyo next month following "some progress" in negotiations between the governments of Hong Kong and Japan. The outbreak of equine herpes virus (EHV) at Sha Tin had brought a ban on horses travelling to Japan, which was expected to keep them out of the fourth and final leg of the Asian Mile Challenge on June 3. But the Jockey Club's international racing manager, Mark Player, said yesterday three trainers had taken the option proposed by the club last week to place horses into quarantine while top-level negotiations continue over a compromise quarantine regime that would enable Hong Kong to participate in the race. "Joyful Winner and Able One from John Moore's yard, Good Ba Ba from Andreas Schutz and The Duke from Caspar Fownes have entered quarantine and the signs have been slightly more encouraging from the negotiating table," Player said. The compromise deal proposed last week was for the horses to undertake 14 days of quarantine here before leaving for Japan, ensuring that they leave clear of EHV. When they arrive in Tokyo, there is another regulation quarantine to undertake as well. If the travel ban is lifted, the four will comprise the strongest team ever to leave for a major event overseas in a race which has quite a history for Hong Kong horses. Fairy King Prawn was Hong Kong's first Group One winner on foreign soil when he took the 2000 Yasuda Kinen. There had been Hong Kong runners most years since, with Bullish Luck able to win the challenge last year. The trip is especially important for Able One, who stands to win a US$1 million bonus if he can take out the Yasuda Kinen as he is already the winner of an earlier leg of the challenge, the Champions Mile at Sha Tin last month. "The Golden Week national holidays in Japan have slowed things down but I'm hoping that we will get an official answer regarding the trip by Wednesday," Player said. "We've had great support from the Hong Kong government, speaking on a government to government level with Japan's Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Japan Racing Association has been a huge help in ensuring that the situation is properly understood by the government on their side. "Although it has been slow going, I would say this has probably gone better than past negotiations with Japan to alter something like quarantine schedules, so we're hopeful." http://racing.scmp.com/freeservice/n...s20070508a.asp |

YEA!!!!!
From the Hong Kong Jockey Club..... they're going! HK quartet cleared to contest the Yasuda Kinen 11 May 2007 Four of Hong Kong's best horses have been cleared to travel to Tokyo for the Yasuda Kinen. The Duke, Able One, Good Ba Ba and Joyful Winner will now comprise the strongest ever raiding party of Hong Kong horses for an overseas race on June 3. "Everyone at the Club is delighted and also very grateful this conclusion has been reached because one of Japan's most prestigious races is once again open to some of Hong Kong's best milers," said Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, the Club's Chief Executive Officer. "I would to like take this opportunity to thank the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan for agreeing to the revised quarantine conditions. Hong Kong's Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department also deserve our thanks, as does the Japan Racing Association for liaising between parties." The Yasuda Kinen, the fourth leg of the Asian Mile Challenge (AMC), will be simulcast to Hong Kong race fans. Able One, winner of the Champions Mile on April 29, bids for a US$1 million bonus for adding a second AMC leg. Hong Kong horses have a proud history in one of Japan's most prestigious races. Fairy King Prawn won in 2000 and Bullish Luck followed up last year to collect the same US$1 million bonus that Able One will try to emulate. |

Special Grass Gallops for Able One and Good Ba Ba 19 May 2007 At the request of Trainers John Moore and Andreas Schutz, and to assist with the training of Able One (G108) and Good Ba Ba (E201) before their departure for the Yasuda Kinen, these two horses will gallop on the Sha Tin Turf Track in an anti-clockwise direction along the inside running rail on Sunday 20 May 2007 at the conclusion of the local track work. Arrival of Hong Kong Raiders (No really..... that's the headline! Look!)! :D http://japanracing.jp/_news2007/070523.html The four raiders from Hong Kong, including the top three finishers of the Champions Mile, the 3rd leg of the Asian Mile Challenge, arrived in Japan on Wednesday, 23rd May. Despite the delay with the cargo flight, all four geldings arrived to the quarantine center in Shiroi safe and sound, after a twelve hours journey from Sha Tin. The Hong Kong team will move to the Tokyo Racecourse next Tuesday to set out to duplicate last year’s win by Bullish Luck. |

I'll try to play nicey-nice here and say okay at least the JRA allowed them to come. To be fair, they did have some nice pics and an article on their site.
