What were you right about and wrong about

I guess this could be the "I told you so thread" or the "eat crow thread" or "boast" thread.

I was totally wrong about a horse being able to pass 19 other horses to win the Derby.

I was also wrong about Curlin. What a comendable performance. I wonder if he comes back in the Preakness.

I was wrong about Quay being the most logical horse to be in the 2nd or 3rd spot.

I was wrong about Any Given Saturday being the horse to win Derby 133.

I was right about Scat Daddy. Too many issues with the feet for me to like.

The only ticket I cashed was a pick 3 with races 8-9-10. The only reason was because I went All-3 (deep)-10 (deep).

Congrats to Street Sense and to Bejarano on a great day.

miraja2 05-05-2007 06:31 PM

I knew Cowtown Cat and Scat Daddy wouldn't show up, and I knew Street Sense would.
I was wrong about CQ (who ran poorly) and Sedgefield (who ran pretty well).

GPK 05-05-2007 06:32 PM

I was wrong about....

everything

Rileyoriley 05-05-2007 06:34 PM

I was wrong when I thought the rail wouldn't open again for Street Sense.
I was wrong to bet Tiago.
I, too, was wrong about Curlin. I didn't think he'd be around at the end.

Thanks to Brilliant in the Woodford, I broke even today.

Very happy for Street Sense's connections!!! Congrats to all who backed him!

Antitrust32 05-05-2007 06:34 PM

I was right about the top three horses who came in. except i was on the fence with hard spun... was going to include him in exotics.

I was wrong about not going to the OTB to bet anything.

There is an air and sea show in my neighborhood today.. so I went there instead of the OTB. F22 stealth bombers are the coolest planes in the world. some of the tricks the planes at the air show are unreal. Great day.. spend the day at the beach watching our air force and navy show off its finest and then walk home and watch the derby with good friends! i dont mind that i didnt bet.

MinnSkinny 05-05-2007 06:35 PM

Me too. Darn near emptied the Bris account, but I do that every Derby.

Cajungator26 05-05-2007 06:37 PM

I was wrong about Scat Daddy and wrong about Curlin. Congrats to the Curlin backers... he ran a great race considering his lack of foundation.

I was RIGHT to include Street Sense and Hard Spun in my exacta box. I boxed Scat Daddy, Street Sense, Hard Spun, Zanjero and Any Given Saturday.

same here. I was sure HS would win because SS would not get his way this time. Great horse no excuses. The better horse won today. I am truely thankfull that HS gave it his all because SS would have had that Yumfecta with the other 18 doing nothing.

MLC 05-05-2007 06:38 PM

I had Street Sense and Hard Spun in a tri box with Circular Quay. I also had Street Sense and Curlin in an exacta box.

pmayjr 05-05-2007 06:39 PM

Was right about Street Sense, wrong about everything else.

I only included 1 Pletcher horse in my tri box, C.Q., and he at least finished the best of the Pletcher horses.

I was wrong to think that Zanjero was better than IMA (although Zanjero did have a slight traffic issue).

I didn't think Hard Spun was a toss, but of the "favorites" I thought he had the least chance of all of them. HE RAN HUGE TODAY.

randallscott35 05-05-2007 06:42 PM

Right: Hard Spun, Curlin, and Sedgefield.

Wrong: Street Sense(big time) and NoBiz

ArlJim78 05-05-2007 06:46 PM

Right: Street Sense, Curlin
Wrong: Dominican, also Hard Spun

2Hot4TV 05-05-2007 07:03 PM

Didn't cash a Derby ticket so that makes me totally wrong. How could you not cash a show ticket on SS @ $4.60. I put too much faith in CQ getting a part of the tri.

Linny 05-05-2007 07:07 PM

Wrong about Hard Spun, right about Street Sense.

Wrong about AGS, very wrong, but right about NoBiz

Wrong about Tiago but right about Curlin.

Wrong in how I bet...very wrong. I only got paid on my win bet because I was negative on HS.

Pedigree Ann 05-05-2007 07:20 PM

My only Derby bet was $5 across the board on Hard Spun, so at least I was right about him running big - BECAUSE OF, not in spite of, his fast work. He needed that after no race in 6 weeks. I was wrong about him being able to hold off Street Sense. I chickened out of betting an exacta box of the two (for 2 lousy bucks! Where is my money sense? Nowhere, that's where!)

Was right about the Illinois Derby being a lousy race and the winner a toss (Cowtown Cat) and about Scat Daddy remembering who HIS daddy is around the quarter pole. Wrong about Curlin not running well (would not have had him in a tri had I bet one).

But what I was most right about was that 2yo form from last year was holding up well and none of the prep race seconds and thirds without major wins already was likely to win the Derby. Street Sense beat Circular Quay by 10 lengths last year - so what did he beat CQ by this year, about the same?

P.S. Louisville (or Lousyville, as we like to call it) dodged a bullet today. We have had several strong thunder storms through Lexington today, lots of rain, flood warnings galore.

fjh513 05-05-2007 07:25 PM

Right...

7 / 8 exacta box saver...

Wrong ....leaving Curlin off EVERY other bet (tri's & supers)....hurt big time.Overall a plus day so .. nothing to complain about.

To all that posted selections / thoughts..a newbie thanks you

pgardn 05-05-2007 07:29 PM

Wrong: Sedgefield, CQ (I thought he would finish even further back), Hard Spun (great effort, never quit), Curlin (great effort also)

Right: Nobiz, Street Sense, CQ

I am looking forward to the Preakness.

philcski 05-05-2007 07:33 PM

Wrong: Everything but the Derby & the Distaff Turf Mile (had the exacta straight)
Right: Had the exacta, straight, 6 weeks ago for the Derby!!!!

brianwspencer 05-05-2007 07:36 PM

I was right on three of the four on the pick-4.

I was right to say immediately after the BC that Street Sense would win the Derby on my blog.

I was right on the top two finishers on my trifecta.

I was wrong to leave Curlin out of that trifecta.

I was wrong to think that even a bias-aided Cowtown Cat could contend in here.

I was wrong to include Scat Daddy at the last minute after insisting he had no shot to win for the last two months.

ninetoone 05-05-2007 07:45 PM

Biggest wrong: Not putting a line through the Bluegrass race...it made me believe that Dominican & Zanjero were on par with Street Sense when they weren't. Major mistake.

Another wrong: Hard Spun. I let the connections scare me off & it almost burned me (I'm a win bettor)...reminded me of when I didn't bet Xtra Heat & almost got burned there as well. Live & (hopefully) learn next time. Nice job by Hard Spun & Pino.

timmgirvan 05-05-2007 07:52 PM

In retrospect, should have not included Scat Daddy in my plays....1st and 3rd is the story of my betting life ....so to speak!

ALostTexan 05-05-2007 08:06 PM

I was wrong, sort of, on Scat. I don't think the foot problems had anything to do with a poor performance, but I was wrong about the distance issues. He was sitting pretty early, but tired out.

I, too, was wrong about Curlin. Nice performance.

I was also wrong about and screwed arounf too long on getting my money into the WinTicket Pick 6 players pool. A $10 investment paid out $82 and change. Would have done better with my money there than on Scat Daddy.

Still a great day. I knew whrn Calvin shot to the rail that he was going to be in the race, and when he made his move on the backstretch, I knew he would win...

pba1817 05-05-2007 08:14 PM

Right about Street Sense... in November last year I was at Churchill freezing my backside off and was lucky enough to witness him demolish most of these same foes in the BC Juvenile. I sat around all winter and spring waiting for one of these other horses to step up in a prep race, none did...

Right about there being too many prep races....

Right that owners are stupid and egotistical... Running a horse in the derby just for the sake of being there is insulting to the fans of racing.

Right about Curlin and Hard Spun and my 4 horse ex/tri box...

Right that the Derby is the single greatest betting race ever!!

Wrong on about everything else I do in regards to betting horses!!

herkhorse 05-05-2007 08:29 PM

Had the top 2 in a nice 20.00 box. Wrong in throwing out Curlin, and Imawildandcrazyguy for fourth? Whodathunk? Had to go pretty far down for any of my tri picks.

Great trip for SS, Hard Spun ran a great race. Couldn't someone have slowed SS just a little for me? It seemed so easy, or is Borel just that Magical? Great ride, but he should finish the race before celebrating.

Scurlogue Champ 05-05-2007 08:41 PM

I was wrong to throw out SS and Curlin.

Also wrong in my analysis of Circular Quay.

I was right about Hard Spun and what he was going to do though..

doesn't make me feel any better.

whorstman 05-05-2007 08:42 PM

Right: Street Sense and Hard Spun

Wrong: A long shot hitting the board.

My 1st Derby tri and it pays less than half of what it has in the past few yrs.

ddthetide 05-05-2007 08:48 PM

disappointed with Nobiz. he was a clean 4th, with a clear path to the lead and faded.
dissappointed in great hunter. i thought MAYBE he'd have chance from the 20 gate.

congrats to hard spun, i completely tossed him. i tip my hat to him.

nice effort from curlin. i just didn't know what to expect.

BRAVO ! to street sense ! and connections.

Danzig 05-05-2007 09:37 PM

i was right about hard spun and street sense. just wanted those two in the opposite order at the finish--truth be told, had hard spun not been by danzig, no way i'd hope to see rick porter in the winners circle...

was right about pletchers horses. also about stormello learning how to rate.

was wrong about curlin--i hoped for a good finish from him for oaklawns sake (i want to see gr 1 by the arkansas derby) but i didn't see him getting into the top three.

and i sure didn't see imawildandcrazyguy in the super!

Hickory Hill Hoff 05-05-2007 09:42 PM

Right about... the one/two finishers
wrong about Curlin...throwing him out completely

PPerfectfan 05-05-2007 09:45 PM

Right about Street And Calvin. I knew he would win!!

Right about Scat Daddy and that bar shoe, freaking Pletcher!'

Wrong about Curlin, thought his 3 starts and trip would get him.

Wrong about Hard Spun, he wasnt even on my radar.

Right about Rated Fiesty

Wrong about AGS/Cowtown Cat lighting the board

Very, Very, Very right to throw my whole Derby money on Street and Calvin....$100 on the nose. I just couldnt figure out tri/supers so I said to heck with it. All I ever bet on the Derby is $100, anything more than that is to rich for my blood.

Danzig 05-05-2007 09:46 PM

but man oh man was i right about cowtown cat, stormello and scat daddy. OUCH. i thought cowtown would be back in the pack, sure didn't see last tho.

3kings 05-05-2007 09:53 PM

Curlin was the mistake. Pitched Scat & CQ which was OK. Hit the exacta but in this case 2 of 3 didn't help me in the tri.

cal828 05-05-2007 11:58 PM

Completely wrong about Hard Spun. Had him in my top 5, but thought he might get cooked. Fully expected Stormello and No Biz to be the pace setters. Fairly right about some other things, but the worse thing I was wrong about was that I had 3 of the 4 races right in the pick 4, but lost by singling Pussycat Doll, the 1-1 fave and here is the truly horrendously stupid thing about that. I had a win and place ticket on Hysterical Lady, the horse that won that race. (have mercy on me Mr. BTW and Hooves. I promise not to ever do it again!!!). Only cost me $4700, but it's only money, right? Even so, I had a great day. Is there anything like the derby to get your blood pumping?

Cannon Shell 05-06-2007 12:13 AM

I was wrong about Total.

Suffolk Shippers 05-06-2007 12:18 AM

Wrong about Cowtown Cat

Right to draw a line through the Blue Grass for all parties, right to play the lynchpin angles of my handicapping life (third off the layoff, win over the track, and recent sharp work over the surface) and pick the logical Street Sense, right about Hard Spun and Curlin.

Might fold the tent and call it a year for wagering :)

Helens filly is now 3 for 3 on dirt and 0 for 2 on poly

Well, at least we nailed the turf race preceding that. The Pletcher 6/5 was a total phony.

Lady of Venice would have mopped the floor with this group, I'd like to know why Biancone scratched because he doesn't usually do that for no reason.

Withers 05-06-2007 05:46 AM

I was right about Curlin and Hard Spun and Street Sense, but I was wrong because I thought Curlin might very well win. Hard Spun I put third.

Buffymommy 05-06-2007 06:03 AM

I was wrong about so many things....

Only right was to bet Hard Spun WPS. Only ticket hubby and I cashed. WHOPPIE!
