Where are you watching the Derby?
We are one day away from Derby Day. Many of you will be right at the track. The rest of us either watch in the piece and quiet of our own home or go to a Derby Party. Maybe there's been a thread about this already, but I'm just curious how the rest my brothers and sisters in horse racing spend their DERBY DAY.
We have a big party at ESTREETS house. He has a big ole' deck and we have two or three TV's. Hickory Hoff stops over for a while with his MILLER BEER and cigars. The cell phones are in tow with calls going out every few minutes to various phone accounts. Last year it was chilly and windy. This year the forecast is sunny and pleasant. I hope everyone out there has a fun and profitable DERBY DAY!! Pat |

At home. :(
I'm planning a trip to the Derby when I finish my university studies though, but that won't be until 2011. But I have no doubt it will be worth the wait, I'm already saving up a little bit every month (NZ-USA flights aren't the cheapest). |
Leaving today from Jacksonville to......
Virginia, going to spend Derby Saturday at Charles Town in West Virginia!
|
Detroit. Red Wings hockey at 2pm, then Chris Chelios' bar after the game for the race.
|
we're at home this year. the past several years we've had reservations at charles town. I didn't call soon enough this year.:o
|
Home on the couch.
It's amateur day at Tampa Bay Downs and I think I will pass on it this year. This will be the first time since 1990 I haven't been either at TBD or Churchill. |

I will go to the OTB place some bets on the entire day. Go home and watch for quick results on Equibase and slowly toss each ticket in the trash.
The amount of clueless rude people on Derby Day is infinite. Just another opportunity for them to be drunk and stupid. Not to mention the ones that are betting on the Derby for 50 people throughout the day. That's just the way it is so I choose to avoid it at all costs. Sometimes I go over to someone else's and watch the Derby but normally I prefer to yell at my TV. |

Ditto for me, except for hopefully NOT that last part! And I'll add that I'll be DVD'ing the whole deal with a backup VHS (those 1st generation DVD burners were so finnicky) for later viewing. Time and time again. I have almost every Derby Day telecast since Ferdinand. I'll probably do a select marathon tonight to get the blood flowing (even more). |
I'll be watching from the comfort of my living room with several beers on the table next to me.

Derby/Cinco/Bday party at my house.

I'll be working in the pro shop. Alone and happy:)

At home on my 65 inch HD TV. Will go place my bets at the OTB early, then come home and watch ESPN HD and NBC HD for the rest of the day. We have the routine down now, go around 10:30 am, place bets, get our derby glasses and go home and enjoy as Mister B said alone and happy.
Got to hurry now, and hit the OTB for the Oaks. BTW, we have nice OTB's around NOLA, especially mine in Covington. Good Luck to all ! |
At Great Lakes Downs in Michigan. Opening night of live there also and I've gt some live ones lined up. $17 buffet and I'll stuffed to watch Mayweather kick Hoya's arse all over the ring later on in the night.

Hey, did I tell you about a filly that's a ringer for the gorgeous chestnut that won the Oaks? Same color, big white blaze. Her name....Shot o' Bourbon. She's my babe. |
I will be at home on the balcony with my laptop, a couple of awesome cigars for the day, and some homemade Mint Juleps.
I really don't have a choice, since Tucson, AZ has NO OTB'S since there is a huge political battle over simulcasting. So, for now, it is either over the computer or drive up to Turf Paradise in Phoenix, which would include $2,093,780,293,402,982 in gas for the 3-hour round trip drive up there. But, I have nice setup here, and there is never any rain this time of year in desert... ALostTexan |
Change of plans...
In the comfort of my living room in High Definition. |
At Playwrights' Restaurant/OTB on West 35th St. I'd rather watch it at home but I work until 4:30 and have a theater call at 8:30PM so I'm stuck watching it with a crowd of screaming people who have been drinking since 11AM. My director said I'm not allowed to come to the show drunk. I said I need to drink after seeing the price tag on the bridesmaids' dresses she wants us to get for her wedding next year. ;)
|
Already went to the OTB and placed my bets, now home with my daughter and watching it on TV. :)
|
from the comfort of my living room, just like every other year. tony said a while ago that we need to get a small tv, since he just realized that two weeks from now we'd be camping, and he doesn't want me to miss the preakness--such a sweetie!!

Home! Cozy, happy and with a nice little spread, right down to champagne.
And I plan on taking the phone off the hook at about 5:15. HATE those calls from friends who want to know who I like in the Derby with about 5 MTP. |
Here in my office, aka the shrine to His Felinity Cougar II, sitting at my computer and my dedicated TV on the desk. The rest of the family could care less about horse-racing. So I don't bother them, except when I win a bet (computer wagering being legal here in the Bluegrass).
