In both races there was a lone speed horse and those jocks were able to dictate the fractions and their mounts held well because of those splits.

Jocks as a whole are never afraid of setting the pace, even on poly. BBB

If this trend contines.....by the time the fall meet comes around...the KEE races will start looking like this....

im getting crushed betting keenland, i have a large day of bets planned for tommorw, some horses i have liked for a while now, but another bad day at keenland tommorw, and that will be it for me, i wont make another bet at the keenland meet, i will admit the poly is killing me.

fpsoxfan 04-18-2007 07:22 PM

Just goes to show...you may as well just run these races at 3f

fpsoxfan 04-18-2007 07:23 PM

Saratoga...Churchill take note......Poly Sucks....

hockey2315 04-18-2007 08:10 PM

Keenland was worried about the handle dropping right after they installed the poly. . . While it may have seemed like they dodged a bullet, I wouldn't be suprised if they start losing alot of business. . .

I did pretty good last Fall with the "poly" @ Keeneland, so far this meet...
I'm a sucker for the ten cent supers, been concentrating mostly on those plays...
14 for 76 with winners "on top" for the meet so far...

I don't think they will lose ALOT of business because of the purses. Although, it is going to be nothing but turf horses on the grounds. It's amazing the allowance races on the poly are 80% turf horses. As Andy Beyer said 'they are penalizing horses for being fast'.

It's coming to a race track near you soon. It's the future, because the owners want it.

What do you mean? In this race, Leparoux was "fearless" charging right to the front, setting his "blazing" fractions only to be run down late by his stablemate. No Round Pond in this race.

tried a few at Oaklawn last weekend, and I gotta say, things worked out nice on a couple! You can cover a lot for about $15. I think I was 2 for 5.

The Bid 04-19-2007 02:25 PM

Im looking forward to Arlington's Poly.

I dont get why Keeneland is so slow, Hollywood played like a fair surface last year on the days I played, its like Keeneland is so far to the extreme.

Which is in direct conflict of the way they are breeding them. Doesn't seem to make much sense to breed for speed and then put in anti-speed tracks. But then again, this sport loves to do whatever it can to shoot itself in the foot.

I should say the shape of the race, not always final time wise

NO! they are penalizing horses for being poorly conditioned. Horses on or near the lead have run well (look at Ball Four and Silent Name) but they will wilt if they are lacking in fitness. Or can compensate by being bred to run 12f (like a turf horse).

I don't buy that.

Zoe 04-20-2007 09:00 PM

Just my view, but Poly isn't "penalizing horses for being fast", its simply making them use their speed differently. Instead of blazing early fractions there are now blazing late fractions. Beyer complains that no speed horses can win at Keeneland while failing to point out that Keeneland's dirt course was in an opposite sense extremely unfair to closers or even stalkers most of the time and had a ridiculous rail bias in which many lesser "speed horses" beat more talented horses who happened to be closers.
Of course, I'm not a bettor really, just a fan, and it doesn't hurt my pocketbook one way or the other. So my two cents is just that...two cents.
