6/8: BELMONT STAKES
Oxbow (Lukas/Stevens) Will Take Charge (Lukas/Court) Revolutionary (Pletcher/Castellano) Overanalyze (Pletcher) Palace Malice (Pletcher/Smith) Giant Finish (Dutrow) Unlimited Budget (Pletcher) Freedom Child (Albertrani/Saez) Always in a Tiz (Schettino/Cohen) Golden Soul (Stewart/Albarado) Incognito (McLaughlin) Orb (McGaughey/Rosario) Code West (Baffert/Napravnik) Vyjack (R. Rodriguez) Midnight Taboo (Pletcher) |
Itsmyluckyday is not running in the Belmont...going to take on Verrazano in the Pegasus.
With the copycat nature of horse racing, just imagine if he had won the Kentucky Derby with the way he was trained. Itsmyluckyday was given almost all of February off. He went into the Florida Derby off a layoff, and came into the Kentucky Derby with probably the most bizarre/conservative training pattern in the entire history of the Derby. However, before the Preakness, he worked 47 flat at Monmouth. It kind of felt like trainer Eddie Pleasa Jr. didn't think this was a classic distance horse ... as he was clearly managing him like a horse who he wanted to have peaking going into the Preakness and Haskell (9f at his home track) instead of a horse being primed for the Derby. Itsmyluckyday has run 3 triple digit Beyer figures in fast track dirt routes this year ... current division leader Orb has 0 triple digit figures on a fast track. But, Orb leads 2-to-1 in the head-to-head match-ups ... although those two wins came when Orb was at the peak of his form cycle and Itsmyluckyday was coming back from a layoff and was kid gloved into those two races where Orb beat him. |
Revolutionary wins by 2 lengths.

Belmont by double digits
refuses to take the bait (being on double secret probation and all)
Rev's colors will also adorn the canoe this year. |

Always in a Tiz (Schettino) a Belmont entrant. David Cohen rides.

David Grening @DRFGrening: Repole said: Overanalyze 100-percent, Unlimited Budget 75-percent, Midnight Taboo 60-percent for Belmont.. After a bit of a disappointing work, Micromanage has bee pulled from Belmont consideration, Mike Repole said. Easy Goer next.

Vyjack now a possibility..
Baffert sounded unlikely with Code West on ATR today. Owner Gary West not that interested in running.. |

Incognito a go..

Has anybody watched that round table (well, I guess 3 people constitutes a round table) on Bloodhorse about this year's Belmont? About halfway through I felt like I was watching Kentucky Derby pre-race commentary from 1995. Dosage?

Oxbow still bouncing about (works of Will Take Charge and Golden Soul available too):
http://www.belmontstakes.com/multime...px?VideoId=110 And an excellent blog entry from Andy: http://www.belmontstakes.com/blog/an...g-the-mystery/ |
Andy's writes so well and is so passionate about his sport its hard to ever find issue with his comments.

I think I'm going to favor the early speed types, even with a large field.
Grabbing disease is everywhere. Even if it isn't, Oxbow is a tough horse and the pace will not be as fast as the Derby. |
Any love for Revolutionary yet going 12 furlongs ? Big fields = big payouts
