One guy on the top athlete list (although not an olympian) would have to be Dave Winfield... only guy ever to be drafted by the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL (the 4 main pro sports leagues). Thorpe was good enough, that he could still compete. If he had the modern training techniques, he'd blow away any of them, in any of his pro sports. |

Efimova wasn't really cheating either. The reality is all of them at that level are trying every advantage they can get their hands on. It's really no different than horse racing. |

Not done either. 200 IM prelim this morning then semifinal tonight. 100 fly prelim tomorrow, then semi-final and 200 IM final tomorrow night. Believe the medley relay is last day. 7 more swims. And yeah he'll be in Tokyo 2020. You can take it to the bank. |
This will be the toughest race of Phelps' career tonight in the 100 fly.
Joseph Schooling is the real deal. He swims for the Texas Longhorns and is coached by the greatest in the history of the sport. This is the race I've been waiting for all week. If Phelps beats this young man then he is the greatest athlete in modern history. Quite frankly it's not debatable at this point but a gold in the 100 fly at his age against this group would solidify it beyond argument. Most people have no clue how brutal swimming can be on the body. Training at an Olympic level for that long is just as brutal as playing basketball for 15 years...if not more. |
