Bid, the first half of your post seems to contradict the 2nd. From it's last couple of races, the horse would appear to be worth a lot more that $15K. To be worth $15K, there have to be some significant issues. When there are significant issues, buyers can indeed get hurt.

The scratch probably saved me from a losing bet. Formal King won with ease.
