just going by where you said 'that's why i lean to the right'. i just don't think love of country has anything to do with political leanings.

i remember when people fussed about obama not wearing a flag pin on his lapel. as i pointed out to my co-workers who mentioned it, 'i don't see one on you either'. that usually made the point and ended the discussion. :D

also see where some criticized obama for not holding his hand over his heart during the anthem-where it's actually not 'required' as it is during the pledge (you're pledging allegiance, hence covering the heart). BUT, some of the same people critical of him are the same ones i see at football games here on friday night chatting away during the bands playing of the same anthem. drives me batty-along with the poorly done flag raising-another thing that sticks in my craw.

I understand and know some people would actually think the statement, “People in this country are ready for change and hungry for a different kind of politics and …for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback.” is patriotic. I'm not one of them.

people can be patriotic without being proud, can't they? i wasn't exactly bubbling over with pride when george bush was doing his thing. i'm proud of my country without being proud of some of my so-called leaders.

do this-think where michelle obama is coming from. all her life she's most likely had to deal with both racism and sexism (whereas i've only dealt with the latter). can you see where her witnessing a woman having a dammed good change at being prez(clinton), and her minority husband winning the same election could make her more proud than she has ever been? or a reason to feel true pride? she's finally seeing a country that says land of the free, everyone is equal, actually come through in a huge way.

fair enough she has the right to feel anyway she wants to but a person who is proud of her country for the first time well into her adult life is not a patriot. IMO

But that's not half as scary as people who believe, "Obama has a strong interest in, and understanding of, the myriad of complexities involving the various countries in the middle east. Tribal relations, power struggles, economics, historic, religious, etc. Carter had (and has) the same. Both "get it"

and with that strong interest and understanding of Tribal relations, power struggles, economics, historic, religious, etc. Carter has come to the conclusion that the persecution of the Palestinians now,(by Isreal) under the occupying territories—under the occupation forces—is one of the worst examples of human rights deprivation that he knows. Worse than Rwanda.

Despite them trying to kill him!!!! That's frightening in my mind.

i would have to disagree. no doubt there were people who served in the military that may not have been proud of their country, but they still served-how could you say they aren't patriotic? just like i would never say that a vet is more patriotic than most just because he did serve.

and as for trying to kill carter-they may well have placed the very bomb they then 'found'. i wouldn't put it past them at all.

Carter is and has been for 30 years an embarrassment. That there are people (person?) trying to say that Carter was some Middle Eastern sage who was some kind of foreign affairs master is so ludicrous that it is stunning and ________ (insert Byk-like word here).

And it is a real stretch to say that a patriot wouldn't be proud of his country till thier 40's.

If he can get Hamas to agree to forego terrorism
and agree that Israel has a right to exist...

He can act like a large rodent and it wont matter to me.

Carter acting like a rodent is more probable however,
but I would take both of the aforementioned.

"What we have learned over this year is that hope is making a comeback. It is making a comeback. And let me tell you something -- for the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country."

http://www.breitbart.tv/html/49244.html

i did a brief search to see if she clarified her remarks, etc...

it's the first time i've ever done a search on the quote-i never knew she said 'really' before.

all this time, it was made out that she said it was the first time she was proud-when in actuality, she wasn't saying that at all. it's the first time she's been 'really' proud. unless of course, the site i just checked out isn't bonafide and the tape has been altered...

a legend in his own mind!

If you watch the whole several minutes video of that campaign appearance (rather than the photoshopped picture Dell posted and popular on all the far, far righty websites), it shows Obama clearly and loudly singing the national anthem, Hillary looking out into the audience, the other candidates on the rest of the stage (GOP, Joe Biden, etc) turned around away from the audience facing the flag at the back of the stage. And the young person singing the national anthem ... calling it cat screetching would be kind :D
