Okay, starting a new thread to cry is a bit much.

Dude just can't stop. Over under of 2 weeks after the Saratoga meet ends and Steve has time to read again before he tosses him.....again.

South Beach Luv 08-08-2009 04:38 PM

Has a jockey ever won all 3 before?

CSC 08-08-2009 04:40 PM

Course is listed as good...now Yielding, times indicate it is soft. Adjust pick accordingly.

Coach Pants 08-08-2009 04:41 PM

The course is not that bad actually. It's not worth wagering on but it's not bad.

i knew that trip would get there(especially seeing races 6 and 7 to gauge the turf), unfortunately wrong mare. Tough trip for Mad About You but she wasn't best today anyway.

I think there's a new horse in the race for Horse of the Year as well.

Gauchos0522 08-08-2009 04:55 PM

Even though it is not his normal style, I think making the lead at the top of the lane was a good move whether it was by design or not for Gio. Tough to make up serious ground on that course today.

Gio Ponti? Great horse, I really like him, but turf horses don't win HOTY unless they're named John Henry.

Realistically, Rachel has this about wrapped up.

letswastemoney 08-08-2009 05:01 PM

They could try the synthetic Classic if they want to go for HOY

I agree.

But Gio Ponti is the hottest horse on the lawn right now (did I just state the obvious? :D ).

I agree and you're right, but there are a lot of things that could happen between now and then not just for him, but Rachel as well. Lots of ifs, but it's interesting none-the-less.

Or Kotashaan or All Along.

NTamm1215 08-08-2009 05:12 PM

Gio Ponti would have a chance at HOTY in most other years. I do think they need to give some consideration to running him in the Classic.

I really don't think his accomplishments are appreciated for what they are in that winning 4 Grade Is in a row at three different tracks ranging from the putting green turf at SA at a mile to the softer going at Arlington and Belmont to the firm course where he raced five wide basically the entire way.

I think it's great to see Christophe Clement have such a great horse too. By the way, does anyone know why Indian Charlie (the indiancharlie.com satirist not our resident satirist) hates CC so much?

I think there's a ways to go, the BC can alter alot of opinions. At the moment RA is the obvious choice but if she loses in the BC surmising she will indeed go then all bets are off for HOY assuming Gio Ponti wins. Alot of if's in the equation I know.

HOY is a longshot for him because of the two girls but he's probably locked up the grass male title and with the BC being on synthetic, what if he were to win the Goodwood and Classic. When is the last time a horse won older male and grass championships in the same year? John Henry?

Not that I bet the race but watching Mike Smith on Mr. Big in the 4th at Delmar improves Zenyatta's resume in my eyes, staying undefeated with Mr. Wide is an accomplishment that shouldn't never be understated.

Bobby Fischer 08-08-2009 05:48 PM

this was a good effort today for Ponti.

the Classic does maybe fit him better than the Turf anyway. If you get Zenyatta, and a couple of the top Euros in the Classic and Ponti that could be another great race. Avoiding the Classic is starting to look like a mistake for Rachel.
