He has a chance at immortality though. I guess both choices have their consequences.

If it rains and Mine That Bird wins without Borel on board...he might regret it for the rest of his life.

He did race Curlin at 4 and he did have Curlin try the grass.. He bought her to race her and hopefully she will continue to be terriffic. ASS did do a fine job with Curlin I would expect that he does a nice job with the filly.. As for going in the Preakness..why not? She really has no comp in her division and maybe she wins the dam thing by 7 lengths and we have something amazing to talk about.. I would rather her against her own but have absolutely no doubt she can beat the vermin heading for the Preakness..She is a super filly I don't give a crap who owns her all I know is I dont..

We haven't even run the Preakness and we're talking about a Borel/MTB/RA decision for the Triple Crown chance???

would love to see rachel try the preakness and try the boys. there's nothing left in her division imo. either go vs males, or take on zenyatta-on dirt.

if it takes jackson buying her to see her vs males, i can live with that. assman....ech.

He wanted to run Curlin at 4 the court case didn't hurt running him at 4 but I never thought he would have retired the colt at 3.

i thought it was about the preakness. obviously if borel has the choice, and choses rachel, he's forgoing a shot at the tc. doesn't mean the gelding is, just the jock.
if she goes..if he has the choice.

There is no chance he wouldn't ride Rachel vs. Birdcrap if given the choice..

no court case, no hold up on a stud deal. he'd have retired him in a heartbeat for the $$$. since he was hamstrung, he went for the earnings record since he was already running curlin.

i think so. i think borel knows damn well it was a case of lucky rather than good in the derby as far as the horse is concerned. he knows what he's got with the filly.
it's been ages since a filly won the preakness-i'd love to see her give it a shot.

Why because 80% of 30mil is changing Jess's lifestyle... I am fairly positive that is incorrect..

Cannon Shell 05-06-2009 06:26 PM

Honestly I am not sure that 10 million is a great deal for this filly. The govt is surely going to get a big chunk of that simply because I doubt either owner has an operation that has anywhere close to that in expenses to write off against the gain. Obviously they can buy horses to make up the difference but in doing so you create expenses which cut into your profit again. The chances of getting another horse of this ability are virtually nil and even if she were to never race again i would think that you could get somewhere in the 6 million dollar range for her as a Broodmare. If she continues to run as well as she has then the upside isnt there over 10 million but the ride has got to be worth something. While 10 million is real close to as much as you could ever get for a filly if she continues to dominate Sheik Mo would give you that much in November. While I am the first person that would sell a horse that I owned if a good offer came up, this one isnt the slam dunk that it looks like.

Trainers usually get 5-10% from a sale out of the barn. Hopefully the owners take of Hal with the 10% he deserves for developing her to this point. Hal will also take care of the barn help because thats the kind of guy he is.

While there is a suit pending against one of the owners there is no reason to believe that Jerry Brown is in the right here without knowing the entire story.

I will say that Jess Jackson being back on the national scene at least gives me someone to root against now that Mullins has broke down I Want Revenge.

well, i don't know what to tell you. the 30 mill might not be life-changing, but jess hasn't built his bottom line by not doing the best thing financially. curlin would earn scads more in the barn than he would on the track..and jackson said a hundred times or more that 'curlin could contribute to the gene pool'. he wanted a deal after the bcc, none was forthcoming because no one wanted a part of the midnight cry b.s. he tried to resolve it and could not.

i saw that the owner (lanzman i believe) is mad because some suggested a more 'nefarious' (his word) reason for IWR scratching. what does he expect, having mullins for a trainer? for having a trainer who is currently serving a suspension? yeah, that all came out of left field....

Exactly. Like signing Pacman jones then being shocked when he gets in trouble.

IrishofNDMan 05-06-2009 06:32 PM

Working all day so just seeing this now, anyone know what it looks like the chances of seeing her in the Preakness are?
