I said he was battle tested try reading it again.

That was the problem the first time. He tried reading it.

What a shock. A heartbreaking 1-point loss in which you vastly outplay the other team.

The two defenses were about a push.

The Ravens offensive unit was slightly better.

The Jets special teams unit was way better.

All in all ... they didn't vastly outplay anyone. They lost an even game because they were more sloppy. Edwards wasn't set - and two of the guys in their secondary were flagged over and over.

Defensively they played well, as far as stopping the Jets strength which is running the ball. The Jets never got a passing game going, whether it was the Ravens D or the ineptness of the Jets offensive, probably a litle of both. But they did keep the Jets to a FG after Flacco fumbled their first play from scrimmage. So they did make some plays.

Offensively the Ravens were OK against a very good defensive team. It seemed like they didn't have very good field position often. But they took some chances throwing the ball and made more plays then the Jets. By no means did they look like an offensive juggernaut tonight. Also of course it seemed like every call went their way.

Bottom line is that I think the Ravens are a very good team and good teams find to win a game like that tonight (let alone on the road). As far as the Jets go, I still believe (just like on their playoff run) that they could go as far as Sanchez can take them. But offensively they stunk tonight.

I saw a lot of "experts" talking about the Ravens having a big shot at making the Super Bowl. Their offense was vastly improved, etc. By no means am I'm blaiming the refs, because the Ravens absolutely made more plays than the Jets did tonight. But as you said it did seem like every call went their way.

Either way, I don't want to jump the gun on anyone because it's week one. But if both teams don't improve they will be watching the playoffs from home.

Coach Pants 09-13-2010 10:03 PM

Yeah if I were to jump the gun I'd be going crazy over the Titans.

But I'm a realist. Field Goal Fisher won't let it happen.

Do you think V. Young is good enough if the good defensive teams are able to contain Johnson? They might be weaker against the run this year.

If he's not then Kerry Collins could do it. He's an every other year qb. This is a good year.

Whether the NFL acknowledges it publicly or not, these games have a TON OF MONEY riding on them. A good MNF matchup can get $250 million in action worldwide from estimates I've been told- 1st week of the season, hyped game, probably even more. This game had a TON of general money on the Jets- yet the line continued to drop. Additionally, the big bettors surely got their middles lined up at Ravens +3, and bought it back at game time at around PK. So what happens if the Jets drive down and kick a FG to win by 2? Basically EVERYBODY WINS and the bookies get absolutely drowned. Now, would you think this would actually be allowed to happen? Of course not! Hell, one time Vegas literally pulled the plug on a game they would have lost roughly $10 million on (Wisconsin-UNLV, look it up.) Everybody can be bought for the right price.

BTW, just for sake of estimation of scope, $82.7 million was wagered legally in Nevada on the Super Bowl; this is estimated as 1.5% of total (illegal or offshore) wagering, so in essence $1.2 billion (not including boxes, etc.); $2.57 billion was wagered legally in Nevada in 2009 on all sports, of which more than 50% is on the NFL; so my $250 million number for MNF probably isn't too far off.

The NFL is what it is because of gambling, plain and simple. They are just a well run marketing machine that hasn't had to lean on 'gambling' to attract fans.

Fantasy football is gambling, anyone that tells you it isn't, is full of crap.

Get the f.uck out of here with that bs. Ravens won't do s.hit this year.

It's hard not to get mad when telling a knuckle-dragger they are wrong. You said Flacco has all the tools. You're a god-damned imbecile for believing that. I could lose 100 games in a row and you would still be a f.ucking moron.

Yeah, except you made that up. Glad you're so excited about 'your team' losing.

Typical Jet loss. Wilson PI was nonsense but they still couldn't bother to overcome a 1-point deficit. Offense is better off playing in Play-Skool jungle gyms than NFL games. They'll handle the Gaytriots though. Brady ain't ready to face that heat. He'll be fixing his hair while getting fisted in the ass. And we already know Revis has Moss on a leash, getting him to dump on the curb.

I think people could tell it was a joke. When you let your fandom get in the way of good business sense you only hurt yourself. You'll learn.

sancho is in for a long season this year....all those weapons and the only thing he can complete a pass to is a checkdown.

having said that, bmore didn't beat them up and down the field like some might think. The PI penalties were kind of a joke, but i didn't think it would have mattered anyways the way sancho was tossing the rock.
