OK I got it figured out. A "great" horse is one that can run within 20 lengths of Secretariat. An "all time great" horse is one that can run within 10 lengths of Secretariat.

Yup ... that'll do.

Too bad we can't stage all the races to prove it.

I haven't read the whole thread and someone may have said this, but to paraphrase Justice Potter Stewart, I can't define what a "great" horse is, but I know it when I see it.

Great horses are just that, "great horses".

Don't matter if they won 5 races or 35 races

I just do not have the patience for this BS................

Come on, lighten up Dix!!! It's too early in the a.m. to be throwing in the towel.

You do realize that the football season is upon us.. Usually by this time of the year, you are more keyed up than $500 Qt in a farm match race.

Ez

I was thinking along the lines of average margin of victory over a three race series with each horse at his best. Actually I was initially joking, but now that I think more about it, the rule of thumb might hold up. :)

Hey BB...the race I want to see is the two Big Red's. Every analysis I have ever done shows those two alone at the top...neck and neck. Who would win?...Secretariat or Man O'War?

It depends on whether or not they use a starting gate.

Hey Dixie...Thought you were talking about me. Then I realized that I have never taken more than 100 or 200 words to reveal my ignorance. :D

Anything which depopulates that "other" site is good.

Your getting a fleabite shouldn't diminish your joy ... and mine ... at getting delicious revenge ... on the hyenas and the p-whippeds.
