Ugh........

That's the feeling on Indian Sun's post position draw. Will have to make King's Silver Son the foundation for most exotic wagers in the Ark Derby. Indian Sun will have to tuck and drop and hopefully not lose to much ground. Still like the exacta box but not quite as much as before the draw.

As a side note--The WinStar Derby for Liberty Bull was another scenario that 'DrugS' has illustrated so well this past week. He chased two front runners then swooped by as they both collapsed. Plus he beat nothing in that race as the second place horse (Screen To Screen) lost at odds on in his return maiden race at Santa Anita.

I'm starting to tilt toward My Pal Charlie. He may have "outrun his odds" as they keep saying, but he was a $300k purchase and the progression on the pp's looks good

I haven't looked at the PPs yet but I'm also a little interested in My Pal Charlie. What's the deal with #s 12, 13, and 14 being grouped together as the field?

I like the "field". The ml odds are up and Charlie is listed at 12-1, as the field is also. Gayego 5-2, I wouldn't normally like him but he did finish in front of Bob Black Jack.

I think Jazz in the Park is interesting, at a minimum. Wish his price would be better than it's going to be with the "field" designation.

Blackberry Road will get up and win it.

Coach Pants 04-12-2008 04:57 PM

I'm playing My Pal Charlie.

Oh and Chuck's horse in the Instant

ArlJim78 04-12-2008 05:22 PM

I like My Pal Charlie to run a big one, but I have this feeling that one of the field horses, Shekinah or Jazz In The Park are going to pull the upset. Most likely Shekinah since the other horse breaks from 14 post.

wow California horses are hot this year! Gayego wins :) :)

2Hot4TV 04-12-2008 06:24 PM

That gave my future bet a chance to cash @ 57/1.

Gayego + Bob Black Jack(+BLINKERS) + War Pass + Recapturetheglory + Big Brown + Cowboy Cal = CLOSER

jcs11204 04-12-2008 09:35 PM

z fortune

for anyone who saw the espn telecast, it appears jerry b and randy moss both like him more then the winner. they also both said they would take him over gayego in the derby. i have never been a fan of this horse, but he is the " other asmussen" and does have a nice running style.

anyone thing he has a legit shot ?

johhny v will sit, dream dream run for COWBOY CAL

JJP 04-13-2008 05:39 PM

Bailey and Moss both couldn't stop talking about Z FOrtune as being the best horse because he lost some ground on the first turn. I disagree on Z Fortune being the best. IMO, ground loss on a non-rail biased dirt track isn't that significant, no matter how the sheetheads try to spin it. But the real factor here was the pace, and it was fast. The field was strung out big time yet Z Fortune still couldn't get past Gayego. They didn't even mention the pace.

Johnny V might sit, but clearly Cowboy Cal cannot.

I don't know what to make of the race's number overall, but I can't deny that Gayego's effort was impressive. More impressive than, say, War Pass in the Wood.

Just one bettor's opinion...

munster705 04-14-2008 01:36 PM

As of right now, he is my Derby value play. If you take a hard look at the Arkansas Derby he was 3-4 lengths better than Gayego. Breaking from an outside post, he was a good 6-7 paths out in the first turn and he was outside again on the far turn coming home and he still closed on Gayego. Im not sure how many more feet he travelled but I would bet at least 100. Id love to get something like 20-1 on him.

hockey2315 04-14-2008 01:38 PM

I don't care if he was wide. If he was any good he would've blown by Gayego in the lane.

I dont understand how you can say that. He was clearly wide throughout which costed him a couple of lengths anwyays and he ran right alongside Gayego down a long stretch at Oaklawn. He lost by 3/4 of a length, it's not like Gayego was opening up on him. I think Z Fortune is the better horse, my opinion.
