The biggest mistake in racing has been made by Dallas Stewart -- and the mistake is not running Lemons Forever on the turf. She took care of Wait A While in the Kentucky Oaks and has a great turf pedigree.
I'm not knocking Wait A While, she's spectacular, but Dallas Stewart could have done the same with Lemons Forever. |

LMAO,
I just like the title of this thread, as if we didnt already know WAW was faster than the Slow man. hell, that NY bred Dave is faster than The Tin Man. so are his rivals Certifiably Crazy and Pa Pa Da. Repent |

Time doesnt make much of a difference in turf races and thats why beyers on turf are so unreliable. He did what he had to do to win. its as simple as that. I wouldnt bet him in the BC or anything. Im not saying that he is the best horse in the country. But im not ready to say that he is slower than Wait awhile on the basis of time in two different races. |

You must really kill your friends with that sterling wit at your dungeons and dragons meetings. I don't rate the Tin Man at all btw, but for someone who claims not to care about horses .....this one has really got under your skin. Embrace that passion and turn it into something positive. ;) |

Yes Beth, Alexandrova is the only one you can even make a case for. Hope she comes on BC day.

I dug up my PPs for the 2003 Breeders Cup and had a look at The Tin Man's only win at 12f. It was the San Luis Obispo H at Santa Anita in February, on yielding ground against an undistinguished field. He put up fractions of 51, 1:15:3 , 2:05:4, and 2:31:1, was ridden out, in hand late. The previous fall at Arlington for the BC Turf on yielding ground, he put up similar fractions of :51:1, 1:17, 2:05:4, but was passed late by High Chaparral and two others to be fourth in 2:30. On firm at Hollywood in May 03, he set the pace in :49:1, 1:13:1, 1:59:4, then stopped to a walk to finish beaten 14 lengths.
I love The Tin Man for his tenacity and consistency, however 12f is beyond his scope against top horses. If the BC Turf were 10f, he'd be a top contender, but it isn't, so I will be opposing him if he starts. |
You guys are all insane. This was clearly a prep for the BC. To say if that, if this versus this horse or that horse is really reaching for something just to knock this horse. He did what he had to do to win and maybe it wasnt his best day. Who cares. If he ran 22 and 45 and spurted away by 10 you guys would still find faults with him and talk about EC and Cacique. Its getting very old. Got news for you- they arent exactly the modern day versions of Lure or Theatrical either! They need things to go there way or they lose!

i agree gander...he won the battle, but kept enough in the tank that he will do better in the war. he didn't need to win, only had to show that he was still firing on all cylinders. why win by open lengths??? ah, had he won going away we'd be hearing criticism of the jock....'what'd he do that for? shoulda left something in the tank!'

I think the Europeans are tough to beat come Breeder's Cup Day, but I sure liked watching the old man show up the young whippersnappers. :) Speaking of the Europeans, I thought ESPN did a pretty decent job trying to highlight some of them in a very short amount of time as they lead up to the Breeder's Cup. |
No I do not think that was one of the better performances by the Tin Man. I think its pretty obvious he was off yesterday against a pretty weak field, but he still got it done. Shouldnt have taken much out of him though, he has as good a shot as any of the American horses on BC day. They're nothing all that super either.

If Wait A While enters the F&M Turf, I think she gets in the exacta.
|
knowing some of the horses heading that way, i think her getting in the top two is a reach.

Although there are many nice horses, I see more versatality in her. |
The Tin man is a great horse to root for, especially since Honu helps train him!
But if you really think that barely hanging on agaisnt those horses after cutting a soft pace(but nowhere near as soft a pace as he set in the Million) makes him a legitmate BC Turf contender, well, then we will just have to strongly disagree. |
This filly is just outstanding. What else can you say? And her speed makes her much more deadly than Gorella in my opinion. She doesn't need things to fall her way, her tacical speed always gives her a trip.
