see, there's always a bright side.

i read earlier that one of the teachers' complaints is on test scores being used as a measure of a teachers work. they don't like that. but, how else do they think we can make sure who the good vs the bad teachers are? and there are bad ones out there. there has to be a way to judge teaching ability-i wonder what they would suggest?

Apparantly testing and wages have been agreed to. The fight is over how much power individual principals will have hiring and firing. The union wants them to have none.

Meanwhile the city's public charter schools are in session and far out performing the rest. Their teachers coincidently are not part of the union.

The real issue is half of Chicago's schools are far from capacity. Emanuel wants to consolidate and shut down failing schools (up to 100 has been a number put out there) and the union is concerned about losing jobs.

They (the union not teachers) could give a f'k about the students.

That's not what I read in the ST yesterday Steve...said despite all the deregulations etc there performance is no better than public schools. I'll try and find article later.

I didn't get to the ST yesterday but found this study of 2011 comparing 4th and 8th grade reading and math tests however it only considered low income children and is from a libertarian site.

This suggests you can take a poor, underperforming African-American or Latino child from a traditional public school and put him in a charter school, where he has the chance to improve or thrive educationally.

Because charter schools are free of the restrictions on teacher hiring, firing and evaluations that hamstring Chicago's traditional public schools, they recruit and retain demonstrably better educators. This is not to say there are no good teachers in traditional public schools–far from it. But it does suggest strongly that the inflexibility and high cost of unionized public school teachers does not help in educating students well. That is, of course, everyone's goal with taxpayer-financed, government-provided education, right?

Dahoss has no point, it comes with the territory when you still support this incompetent, lying, corrupt, uncompromising, fraud in the White House.

Let's not play dumb. If you want to insult me, do it under your name. That was my point.

I am not PD. if you disagree with my views feel free to debate it. Sugessting that I am insulting you under a different name is absurd.

If you are the point man for anything, then the guys with you are in trouble. You couldn't be best man in an all girl school. For a mook like you, who couldn't pick his brother out of a room full of dachshunds, to insult a handicapper like Mr hoss, is totally absurd.

Just so I'm clear, this is the story you are going with.

You're not thepaindispenser despite his political views being identical to yours. You're not thepaindispenser despite your posting styles being identical. You introduced this guy to the board and after his third post you welcomed him, while pretending you didn't know who he was, but you're not him.

When I asked him a question yesterday and you responded and then he did a few minutes later, that was just a coincidence? And despite this guy being here for a little over a month he insults people by telling them he's waiting to hear something intelligent from them? But you're not him?

I call bullshit. And frankly it's kind of embarrassing to watch you try and weasel your way out if it. Own it and let's move forward tough guy.

You're not helping here.

To be completely honest, Pointman is a good handicapper himself.

Nothing personal, but perhaps you should put your money where your mouth is regarding accusing Nick having PD as a second log in... I am fairly certain he would take that action.

You don't need my help Mr Hoss. especially when it comes to this loser.

I do appreciate all your help, however.

Finally an unbiased perspective.

Let me set the record straight here. First of all, I have never had a problem with you and if I did I would have addressed it with you.

Second of all, I am not PD. Over drinks and a conversation regarding politics, which obviously PD and I have similar views, I showed him the nonsense and bullying tactics that Riot uses here. PD decided to sign up and join as a member here himself on his own, which I see no problem with someone doing and expressing their opinions against what he obviously thought was nonsense. I saw no obligation to reveal that I know him once he told me that it was him that signed up as PD, if I am wrong on that end, fine. Now you know that I know him, but his views are his own and he is a big boy and can defend them himself. In fact, he is smarter than I.

I see nothing that I have to weasel out of Hoss. The more people that come to the website, the better for the game, IMO, regardless of whether they feel they have more knowledge on horses or politics. If you don't like the politics that PD and/or I express, fine, debate it. But I certainly feel that this section has been wrestled from Riot's control and freed up for actual debate (which actually has occurred very nicely the last few days without Riot's typical nasty tactics), which I have expressed several times that is what my goal in fighting Riot is.

If you wanted to know whether I was using a second ID, all you had to do is ask and I would have told you exactly what I am saying now, which is that it is simply not true. pmac only says that because he knows who PD is and that it is not me. If you have a problem with me, fine, address it with me and I will be happy to respond.
