B is a 4yo male … Z a 6yo female.

B already owns a couple big scores at CD … Z hasn't raced there yet.

B showed a lot of grit while taking down top-ranked QR in the biggest open contest so far this year.

He's clearly the early fav for the BCC at this point...

Wow, I would have guessed Smooth Operator would be much younger than that.

Blind Luck could face Zenyatta in Lady's Secret

Suddenly, the Lady's Secret looks like it might actually be interesting...

Quote:

Blind Luck, the leading candidate for an Eclipse Award as outstanding 3-year-old filly, could challenge unbeaten Zenyatta in the Lady's Secret Stakes at Hollywood Park on Oct. 2.

"We're going to nominate her to the Lady's Secret," said Dan Ward, assistant to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Zenyatta, perfect in 18 starts, is pointing to the Lady's Secret prior to a defense of her Breeders' Cup Classic victory Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs.

"We're also going to nominate Blind Luck to the Cotillion at Philadelphia Park the same day," Ward said. "The only concern about the Cotillion is it's a stakes, and she'd have to give away weight."

Blind Luck, purchased privately following a double-digit win in a $40,000 maiden claiming race at Calder on June 21, 2009, worked five furlongs at Hollywood Park on Sunday in 1:00.80.

"It's safe to say she's exceeded everybody's expectations," Ward said of Blind Luck, who, like Zenyatta, likes to spot her rivals big leads before running them down with mind-blowing charges through the stretch.

Blind Luck has been pretty awesome this year on every surface her little hooves have touched this year. I don't think she beats Zenyatta though.

So if Blind Luck goes in the Lady's Secret, where does Zenyatta go?

She'll have a date with Giacomo or Tiago.

That foal wouldn't beat a trotter to the quarter.

I know!

I think there's a 20% chance they do something really stupid like that though.

not that this was a serious question, but if you're going to beat Zenyatta, you can't beat her at hear own game, ask Life is Sweet... That being said, if Blind Luck were to beat her and then win the Distaff, I think she's would have a great argument for horse of the year.

Indian Charlie 09-16-2010 11:52 AM

It absolutely was a serious question.

Agreed, they want no part of her.

Would love to see the big mare school that little filly in the lane

But BL will bail before the race … just like RA did in Arky…

Or just like Zenyatta did against Nashoba's Key or just like Zenyatta did on the KY Oaks undercard last year.

Indian Charlie 09-16-2010 01:12 PM

Or just like Zenyatta would have if Sea of Stars had come over for the BCC.

Smooth Operator 09-16-2010 01:14 PM

Would expect JS to scratch her again if the strip comes up too wet for the BC...
