R.I.P Shark :(

I'm sorry and yeah I know, I can't imagine either. :(

I've been trying to think of what to say about Mr. Umphrey who I was such a fan of and who has been in the waiting for news on thread.

Not being a good enough writer to do him justice, I'll simply say that the very difficult decision was made by those close to him, after injuries he had suffered in a race at Philly, to let him sleep forever and be free of pain.

It seems like, from things I've read, he was always a barn favorite.

I appreciate the people at Philly for passing on my email and am so grateful to his trainer for writing to me.

I can't imagine being the one to make such a decision.

I'm only a fan but as a fan I'm thankful that someone had that kind of strength, that kind of compassion, and let him go.

Goodbye, Mr. Umphrey. You were so much fun to follow and root for... thank you for making life just a little bit happier.

Rest in peace.

Law and Order, a four year old gelding, at Plumpton today.

He'd run 5 times on the flat, 2 on the all weather and 4 in hurdle races but he never hit the board.

He unseated his rider three starts ago. Two starts ago he fell, he was pulled up last time out and he sadly died this time.

RIP

chucklestheclown 03-23-2010 07:27 AM

Why would they have kept running him? Do you have an article on him? What kind of track is Plumpton? Is it like a Philly Park?

my miss storm cat 03-23-2010 08:39 PM

I know as much about Plumpton as you do.

Here's their link...

http://plumptonracecourse.co.uk/

I saw a little blurb with this horses name and that was it so looked him up.

When I was writing the post I did actually say that I was horrible for passing judgement but why was this guy even racing.

I just didn't post it. Deleted it, posted it, and that was that.

It bothered me too though and I feel really horrible for his people but I know what you mean and have no idea why on earth he was even entered.

Poor thing.

Stronghold...

http://blog.summerhill.co.za/blog/20...tronghold.html

GR.3 WINNER STRONGHOLD DEAD

The Timeform rated 120 Summerhill Stallion and Grade 3 Supreme Stakes winner, Stronghold, has died of colic.

Danehill's son, a five time winner in the U.K, had been at stud for two years leaving two crops on the ground for the popular KZN stud. He stood for R40 000.

"This game can be a helluva leveller. You come out of a weekend of such spectacular feats, and you think you’re on top of the world. But dealing in livestock can be a cruel business, and readers of these columns will know that Stronghold had just piloted his way through precarious waters." mentioned Summerhill's website.

"Just as we began to believe he was well on his way to recovery, he was struck by a devastating colic. True to his name, he took his suffering manfully, but it wasn’t enough to save him when they opened him up to find an irreparable rupture.
"Nobody really knows what a thing like this means to a farm like ours. He came to us as a champion, and as one of the best credentialed stallion prospects we’d had the privilege to work with. Without doubt, he stood out among the leading sons of Danehill on the African continent. We’re just fortunate that his precious genes have been left in two crops at Summerhill. That won’t repair the hole he’s left, but if you’re looking for consolations at times like this, that’s the only place you’ll find them.

Rest in peace.

I don't really care if anyone thinks I'm an idiot.

It's been three years.

I deleted the long post I just wrote but do have to say one quick, little thing.

I still miss you, Hendrix.

I wish you would have left it up, or saved it for a separate thread. He was special (not in the "clyde" way).
