Kerry had a terrible year last year, and a big part of it was that he constantly had to make up for the shortcomings in pass coverage of Abram Elam and Eric Smith. This also allows Elam to go back to being a pure run-stuffer and blitzing safety and stop trying to cover down the field.

Neither of the secondary guys the Jets got (Sheppard or Leonhard) are beasts, but they don't have to be. Their jobs are to take pressure off of Revis and Rhodes and stop making it so easy to pick on the other half of the secondary.

He's not really that quick and with 4.58 speed he isn't that fast either. He'll usually be in the right spot for you and can usually make a tackle when needed but you don't want to rely on him in coverage much. Greer would help your pass coverage a lot more.

If he can cover a ham sandwich coming out of the backfield, he's an improvement over what we already have. I'm confident that Rex knows how to bring out his strengths and hide his weaknesseses.

I agree he is pretty mediocre and benefited a great deal from having Ed Reed on the other side. He was able to concentrate on a smaller portion of the field because of most QB's reluctance to go anywhere near Reed. We shall see but if he has to cover a larger area he will be exposed.

Kerry Rhodes is no bum. He's a top five safety in the league when he's playing well.

I didn't say Rhodes was a bum. I think Leonhard benefitted a great deal from playing with Reed and the Baltimore pass rush. It's a lot easier to make plays when the QB has no time or is running for his life. Maybe Gholston will be able to put the heat on the QB like Suggs.;)

Or Calvin Pace or Bryan Thomas or David Harris or Bart Scott or Shaun Ellis or Kris Jenkins or Abram Elam. The Jets were near the top of the NFL in sacks last season for a long time even with a gutless defensive coordinator. We have a great safety and a potentially great pass rush as well.

Got a text message from my brother Danny while being mesmerized by THE hottest stripper in the city at Delilah's tonight. He told me that Andy and staff were courting Shawn Springs at Del Frisco's. Turned on Comcast Sportsnet when I got home and it said that Springs was visiting. Not sure where he'll fit in, but he seems like a nice option to have in place in case one of our top 3 guys go down.

and on a MUCH more important note...Rest in Peace Corey Smith and Marquis Cooper...

Which is why I'm eager to see how Dawkins does in Denver. He'll be left on an island waaay more than he was with us. Hope he does well, but something tells me we won't be seeing the Dawkins that we are used to watching. Bronco fans better pray that they blitz alot.

Do you have any idea how much better this post would have been if your brother texted you that Andy Reid was courting Shawn Springs at Delilah's? Could you see andy with a fistfull of dollars?

I do, but Andy, a man of faith, probably doesnt believe in that kind of stuff. ...I did, however, see Asante Samuel's twin brother there. Dude was the SPITTING IMAGE of him. My attention quickly went elsewheres though. As that one defensive coach on Hard Knocks two years ago said, the dreads are definitely IN.

And to answer your 2nd question, only if Joe Banner and Jeffrey Lurie let him. They pinch pennies with the best of them. Or as Johnny Sacs would say, they treat nickels like manhole covers. :D

Bills signed Drayton Florence last night which means they got sick of waiting for Greer to make a decision on their offer. Would have preferred they stayed in and made the Jets pay more but Greer was pretty much a luxury for the Bills at this point with McGee and McKelvin so it made more sense to get a cheaper corner for insurance and spend the money to bring in Coles and give them a legit #2 receiver for the first time since 2002. Looks like Greer is there for the taking if the Jets want him. He makes the occasional big mistake but he makes up for it with big plays and seems to elevate his game when he takes on elite receivers. Should help the Jets a lot if he goes there.

Good luck with Drayton Florence. He was AWFUL with the Jags this past season, in fact, he and Jerry Porter were the reason why James "Shack" Harris was asked to find other employment.

declansharbor 03-04-2009 11:11 PM

Let's have a T.O. sweepstakes!!!

Who can predict where he ends up?

Coach Pants 03-04-2009 11:52 PM

Jerry Jones is a f.uckin ******.

With Sheppard and Leonhard in tow, I doubt we spend big money on another secondary player.

And the Bengals way overpaid for Coles. I don't know how much is guaranteed, but 4 years/$28 million for a 30+ possession receiver is borderline crazy. The Jets were paying him significantly less to be their co-#1.

Coach Pants 03-04-2009 11:56 PM

So let me get this straight.

The Bengals decided 12 million and an extra year were too much to give to Housh...but it's perfectly fine to spend a little less for a punk b.itch?

God damn they're retarded.

T.O. is going to have problems getting a multi-year deal from anybody. Even my daughter knows his shelf life on a team is no more than one season (and that is only if the team is winning and he is getting the ball), before he sours.

I'll take the Bengals, they'll take anyone who will sign with them, although way overpaying for Coles might make that impossible. J. Jones made sure he waited till Dan Snyder spent all his cap money so he couldn't get involved.

He's more depth/insurance than anything. McKelvin looked ready to start late last season so Florence will be competing with him for a starting job. Youboty actually played well as a nickel last year (was even ahead of McKelvin) before getting hurt so could easily step back into the nickel spot if healthy and Florence is a total disaster. They even have a rookie from last year that was a 4th round pick, the appropriately named Reggie Corner, that showed promise when called upon. It's only a two year deal so this year will be an audition to find out if he has longterm potential to start alongside McKelvin and give the Bills the ability to let Terrence McGee go next season when he hits free agency.

declansharbor 03-05-2009 04:08 PM

Eagles trade Greg Lewis and a 7th round pick in 2010 to New England for a 2009 5th round pick. That gives us 12 total draft picks and 4 in the 5th round. An active draft day is envisioned.

and Shawn Springs has reportedly signed with New England. So I practically SCHOOLED the dudes on espn.com commenting on the headline on how horrible a pick up it was for the Eagles. They couldnt get it through their heads that we let him leave without an offer. Tough concept to grasp.

That's not much of an accomplishment. The average IQ of espn.com commenters can't be far above freezing.

Yea, it totally isnt. Not one of my finer accomplishments. It's amazing how idiotic some of those comments were.

Most of these "name" guys have had serious injury issues or over inflated salary demands. Toomer is one of the players that would interest me if the price was right.
