Per Paulick's live blog, Blue Exit suffered a fractured cannon bone and was euthanized. Sad...

from drf~ Zada Belle was vanned off after the race. Track officials reported she had suffered a right front medial sesamoid fracture and was in stable condition. |
Thanks, Danzig.
For anyone wondering about Spring House (who I was about to add here)... (DRF) Spring House, the winner of the Grade 2 San Luis Obispo Handicap here last month, was vanned off "as a precaution," according to steward Scott Chaney. Spring House was not urged through the final sixteenth by jockey Alex Solis. Spring House was taken to trainer Julio Canani's stable for observation. |
they said on HRTV that Spring House was eased because he bled.
|
Thanks, Jim.

Spenditallbaby update, the word is in another month she should be 'back to normal'. She's on Barry Abrams' ranch at the moment.

Easily my favorite horse from covering that meet, and raced off the turf yesterday and was tiring. The winner came over in front of her, and she took up, then Cisco Torress pulled her up quickly and she was vanned off. Have a couple feelers out there to see if I can get any word on her, but if anyone is able to come up with anything.....worried. |

Some from this thread have been added to the Angels thread...

I couldn't find the Angels thread to see if some of this was already posted there so I decided to go ahead and post here.
Has anyone heard an update on Zada Belle since she was sent to Rood and Riddle for surgery? Also, sadly Spenditallbaby was euthanized March 30th :(. The article didn't give much information other than she was euthanized, when the injury happened, and a basic rundown of her career and connections. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...aby-euthanized This is probably posted in the Angels thread, but sadly Saarland died as well. Apparently he was at part owner Jess Jackson's ranch in California and died of injuries suffered when he ran into a feeder. Sad, but definitely one of the more interesting causes of death I've heard of. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...-saarland-dead |
Thanks Alex and yeah they're both on the Angels thread (it's in the Charles Hatton reading room, along with Retirements).
http://www.derbytrail.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=11 http://www.derbytrail.com/forums/sho...spenditallbaby Haven't heard anything more about Zada Belle... Hopefully she's doing okay. |
Ohhh, okay, thank you very much!

Stormalory. Do we know what happened? I saw he was pulled up when I read about Orthodox winning.
Heck while I'm at it, also waiting for news on Bob Neumeier. |

from drf: The American Turf was marred by the fatal breakdown of favored Stormalory, a royally bred son of Storm Cat who was favored to win the race for trainer Bill Mott. Stormalory was pulled up before the half-mile pole with a fractured left-front cannon bone and pastern, and shortly thereafter was euthanized, according to Dr. Mary Scollay, equine medical director for the Kentucky Racing Commission. |

Have you noticed that far fewer horses are having catastrophic injuries in the afternoon at HP and SA. There is a reason for this. The state vets are being much stricter about who they are allowing to run. There are plenty of horses that would have been allowed to run in the past, that they will not allow to run any more. The Eight Belles incident has actually saved alot of lives because the state vets have gotten much stricter as a direct result of Eight Belles. It shouldn't have taken such a well publicized incident for them to finally do something. There were way too many horses breaking down before the Eight Belles incident and yet nobody was doing anything about it. There were injured horses running every day that had no business running. There were two big name horses this year entered in big races that were scratched and both of these horses would have been allowed to run in the past. I can promise you that both The Pamplemousse and I Want Revenge would have been allowed to run before the Eight Belles incident. But as a direct result of the Eight Belles, the tracks are being much stricter. Although the press reported otherwise, both The Pamplemousse and I Want Revenge were vet scratches. Had the state vet not forced those horses to scratch, they would have both run, even though both horses were injured and had no business running. |
