Are we leaving out Chrissie and the Pretenders or is the edge just a little too rough.......that had alot of hits and a sound that was somewhat unique.

And at least an honorable mention to Annie Lennox and the Eurthymics (sp?)
Great voice......hubby not bad with an axe.

Someone mentioned them -- and then I felt remiss for not thinking about them off the top of my head! Theyre awesome.

Big Brother

Sorry, but no one holds a candle to Janis Joplin. That girl could kick out a tune bigger and better than anyone. The female James Brown,,,,with a fifth a liquor!

1) Big Brother and the Holding Company (have to be #1)
2) Jefferson Airplane (Starship)
3) Heart
4) Fleetwood Mac (I think between the two they'd qualify)
5) Blondie
6) Juliette & the Licks (yes I like them this much)
7) The Plasmatics
8) Bif Naked (Ok, group & her name)
9) Stone Poneys
10) 'Til Tuesday
Any thoughts?

Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Ponys. And there song,"different drum" written by Michael Nesmith of the Monkees whose mother was one of the inventors of white out.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs folks. Karen O is amazing.

Another suggestion if you're willing to give them a shot, the Go! Team. ****in Amazing.

pmayjr 01-13-2007 04:25 PM

Another- Stereolab. Some of the most mellow melodic stuff around.

I know these bands might be obscure to y'all that listen to your mainstream pop top 40 b.s., but if you're missing out if you don't give these bands a listen.

pmayjr 01-13-2007 04:27 PM

**** I keep coming up with more-

The Brazilian Girls... another good one. It's really 3 dudes and 1 female lead singer.

lita ford

Pdrift,

This topic is about BANDS with female leads. Not just female singers. If you wanna go females singers you can start naming eveyone uder the sun.

Here are some Stereolab samples that some of you might enjoy. These aren't downloads, they're just links to a page and the song will start playing. Enjoy

The best of the old for me:

Heart
Fleetwood Mac
The Motels
The Eurythmics
The Pretenders
Missing Persons

For fun:
The Go Go's

For those who like to get lulled into a state of bliss and probably the most talented musically with a great voice:

Enya

Best Voice Ever:
Kate Bush

And for the slightly newer stuff not rapish:

Cheryl Crowe
Alanis Morisette

And then for the one song that I have no idea why I like:
The PussyCat Dolls

Dont you wish your girlfriend was raw like me
Dont you wish your girlfriend wore a bra like me (my lyrics added)

Dont ya.... (hit the trumpet and sax hard)

Once again... no offense Pgard. BANDS! BANDS! BANDS! with female fronts. Not solo female artists. Otherwise let's just start throwing Madonna and Mariaiah and Janet and bla bla bla bla out there. BANDS with a FEMALE front is the topic here.

Where they act is considered a "BAND" not a solo artist

And "SOLO ARTIST" with a backing band does not count in my eyes either.

the runaways
lita ford..

Enya writes her own stuff, she is her own band. She can play almost all the intruments but cant be in every spot, probably why she tours infrequently if at all.

The others did start out with their own bands, they play intruments unlike the Solo Artists you gave out. The artists you gave out are simply sex symbols with great voices that can dance. I think my women/bands are different.

And I thank you.

But in all honesty, are we talking about artists or bands? They're two totally different things, and Alanis Morissette does not qualify as a "band." No solo artists qualifies as a band, because they are not a band but in fact, a solo artist.

I think that Catie Curtis and Deb Talan and Edie Carey and Anne Heaton are better than many listed in this thread, but they aren't bands -- so I didn't add them in because that wasn't what the thread was about.

Ok, ok...see new thread!

pmayjr 01-16-2007 01:23 PM

Somer,
Brian said it perfectly. That's all i was saying, is the artsts listed weren't in bands. They're solo artists. So thanks for starting the new thread. Pgard, do you understand my reply to you now? Because when you replied to my reply, you still seemed clueless.

Wrongo. Alanis Morrissette did have a band when she was young. She played in a local dive. So its just when they become famous and their hits are with backups? So Tom Petty does not have a band except when it was called the Heart Breakers, and getting a new man at a position disqualifies. Or Bachman Turner overdrive is not a band, its just two guys with some sit ins? So what is the definition of a band? I think you see what I mean. Or when one person that was in a band is no longer a band when they play with other sit ins. So Phil Collins only counts when he played with Genesis? Is that what we are saying?

PJ the examples you gave are people that do not play instruments, most do not write their own stuff, and they are popular because they dance and are sex symbols. The line gets blurred here. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is or is not a band? And Annie Lennox is/was the Eurthymics... gimme a break here fellas.

pmayjr 01-16-2007 05:54 PM

Gwen Stefani is a solo act. I don't give a **** if she tours and has a backing band. THAT DOESN'T COUNT!

Gwen Stefnai as a part of No Doubt, is a BAND with a female lead singer. Because No Doubt is a BAND. Gwen Stefani IS NOT A BAND.

You're absolutely right Pgardn. Phil Collins IS NOT A BAND. Genesis is a BAND.

lol dude you need to chill, its not life or death here lmfao .your making a big deal about nothing. so if you asked her drummer what band he plays for , would he say i don't play in a band, he could say lita ford which in some peoples eyes see the rest of them as a band along with her regardless if its her name , i can understand your point but it can go both ways . forget about it
