If the two also rans in the travers go 1-2 in the Penn Derby, does that mean Arrogate destroyed a meh field in the travers?

Secretriat34 09-26-2016 08:32 AM

I'm having some trouble with the PA derby results.

consider this group

Nyquist - winner of BCJ, Kentucky Derby, Fla derby, San Vincente, Best Pal
Exaggerator - winner of SA derby, Preakness, Haskell, 2nd in kentucky
Cupid - winner of The Rebel, VW derby, Indiana derby

THERE IS SOMETHING FUNNY ABOUT THEM NOT BEING IN THE MONEY AT ALL

61-1 shot Wild About Deb returned $21.20 to show, In earning her first grade I-placing,

WHAT HAPPEN HERE ?

Trainer Steve Asmussen was pleased with the way Winchell Thoroughbreds, Three Chimneys, and Besilu Stables' Gun Runner raced, but confessed he was thinking bigger for the son of Candy Ride , who finished third in the Kentucky Derby, winner of LA derby, Risen star..
"He's such a nice horse. He ran a solid race and beat the horses that beat him in the (Kentucky Derby)," Asmussen said. "He was second, but I kind of planned on winning today."
Nyquist's owner Paul Reddam had no immediate explanation for the off-the-board finish by his Derby winner and wasn't sure a Breeders' Cup start would be realistic.
"The winner ran well and we didn't have any apparent excuse," Reddam said. "We'll have to check the horse over and make sure that he's (well) and we'll work from there. That was definitely the worst performance of his life, so that's not how you want to go into the Breeders' Cup. Maybe it'll somehow look different tomorrow, but I'm not sure how

these results are very odd

how does a 61-1 shot get past all the grade 1 winners

Secretriat34 09-26-2016 08:40 AM

i was alive in the pick4 going into the PA derby to 4 colts..exxagerator, Nyquist, Cupid, and Gun Runner....felt pretty good before the race...wouldn't you ?
I had to drop Connect for price resaons...ARRGGGRRGG

my big winner on the card..

my 60 cent super in the catillion ...paid 85 cents...pffttt..

85 cents...outta be a rule, minimum pay out 1 dollar.

Not sure why you are surprised. When the track is dry almost all these 3 years olds are about the same with maybe the exception of Arrogate.

Secretriat34 09-26-2016 09:00 AM

i expected more from what i thought were the division leaders.

Pants II 09-26-2016 09:13 AM

You miss American Pharoah. It's a grieving process. Now all we have is Arrogate and false hope.

Cupid was exposed (again) once he took on the top of the class.

Nyquist and Exaggerator, from the outside, simply look like tired horses. Nyquist showed some signs of life at least. Both should be rested and point for the Malibu after Christmas as an attempt to salvage the 3yo Eclipse and/or as a springboard to a 4yo campaign. Otherwise, they are approaching Monarchos, Orb, Go For Gin, Super Saver, Mine That Bird, Giacomo, Fusaichi Pegasus status.

Secretriat34 09-26-2016 02:00 PM

Arrogate had a real good run last out, but his diary is empty, too little too late, even if he wins the BCC (doubtful) one of the BCD would bw HOY
songbird has 11 wins in a row...and a cool name !:D

arrow gate points to nixon...get it.?

Indian Charlie 09-26-2016 02:52 PM

I hear Declan moon is a shoe in for champion 3 year old male.

Pants II 09-26-2016 04:00 PM

Those Unbridled Song's sure are known for their sturdiness. ;)

Paul Reddam controls the racing career according to the report on the stud deal late last year and he seems like one that likes to keep them racing. His post race comments for the Penn Derby hinted that he wouldn't be opposed to skipping the BC considering the colt's performance, presumably to regroup for later races (i.e. a 4yo campaign).

At the very least, I would guess that he has his eye on that Pegasus Cup monstrosity early next year.
