I just think that the guy certainly gives more good than bad and horses run for the guy. Your points are well taken, and I didn't want to get into a big thing with you. I just think sometimes the guy gets a bad rap, when many riders are forgotten in terms of their mental lapses.

No way does anyone in the upper echelon ever do something like he did yesterday, never. That was absolutely inexcusable and he should be called in. Did you really see the race?

Watch this, you just have to. hes on the three, a horse who has won stalking the pace and who posesses more early speed than anyone in the race. Note him breaking to the lead, and then taking a hard hold for no reason, and then continuing to stand up in the saddle and keep wrangling her back until shes last, behind a 23:1 1/4 mile, and then being forced to go real wide and get beat a neck.

Enjoy the comedy, tragedy if you bet or own or train her.

Only bad????

He has to be winning at like a .02% clip on favorites. It makes no sense at all.

I did. That ride makes me think he's having someone book for him.

Ah the Devil's advocate.
The topic is not his riding in general which is good.
Did you see the ride in question? Did you have the DRF so as to base your comments on the ride in an informed manner.
Something tells me you haven't, hence the need for a general comment in response rather than addressing that specific ride.
Link to the replay is posted above, please watch it and tell me what you see. having the pp's so you know about the horses in the race and their running style would help as well. I can email you those if need be.

Pillow I'd like to think it was just incredibly stupid judgement, but that thought crossed my mind as well.

He has to be pretty damn stupid then. Maybe they should have a testing system like the SAT for jockeys.

oracle80 10-10-2006 01:00 PM

Man I will tell you one thing though, hes a strong little bastard isn't he?
Imagine having the strength to grab one with that much speed that hard so as to take her from first to last in a 23:1 quarter?
I'm not kidding, he must be strong as an ox in order to have done that.

Umm, we'd have a real jockey shortage.

What do you think the questions would be on the Jockey SAT?

I'd start with a multiple choice question:
You are riding in a sprint race on a contender who has won close to the pace, and set a very fast 1/4 mile in a 125 grand stakes race. Your horse breaks well and makes the lead easily out of the gate and the field is not going very fast.
Do you
A) Keep going on the lead and try to wire them
B) Allow the horse to race under a loose rein while stalking the leader in a great spot
C) either A or B
D) Grab that Mother****er just as hard as you can and strangle her back to dead last behind a very slow 1/4 mile and then go 4 wide at the top of the stretch.

The correct choice is C. Garrett obviously would choose D.

With that said, I hope he's in good form come Breeders Cup day because Drifty is my pick to win.

Cajun, you seem like a very knowledgable horse race fan, thats why you baffle me in that you can question the racing integrity of a brilliant horse like Bernardini, and on the flip side actually think a hanging, cheating, gutless horse like Perfect Drift actually has a chance to win the Classic.
