Is it just me or did he look uncomfortable the entire backstretch run?

pucknut 08-24-2013 08:18 PM

He never looked comfortable palace didn't run his race and orb needed this
Moreno might just be getting better
And the old grandmaster wins another racing jewel

dont give up on verrazano..... how many good horses have ran up the track at saratoga..... to many to name.

Vegaskid 08-26-2013 10:56 AM

In his 2 biggest races of his life he failed badly.... time to change up the game plan on him... personally I would like to see him run the mile on turf and go after Wise Dan

You can argue he didn't do his best running in the Travers and I wouldn't argue much, but his record has been compiled in soft fields with easy trips (other than the Derby). Even the Haskell was kind of soft once Oxbox didn't run well.

I think he's a quality miler that can stretch further on talent alone if he gets a soft trip or easy field, but he's not the first horse I've seen that looked like a world beater going 8/9 furlongs against weaker that chucked it in early against a quality field going 10F. Unfortunately for me I held that view before the race but blew the bet.

I also didn't hurt him when the only competition in the race pulled up.

Yes, obviously. I had my my no competition romps confused.

fowler 08-28-2013 07:59 AM

He was entered in the wrong race. Should have gone in the Kings Bishop.

Sightseek 09-01-2013 11:43 AM

Training up to the BC Mile.

I said that after the Monmouth romp, multiple times. I think 10f is to far the cutback would have been great.

The colt has won not once but twice at 9f's with major speed figs, yet you think 7 furlongs is his best distance. Its not like he ran his race in either the derby or the Travers. Did you ever thinkthat the "program" the colt is on doesnt lend itself to two races in a row or that he just didnt fire in the Travers? When a colt wins 9 panel races with very solid figs and isnt dying at the wire I suggets another furlong is well within his scope...

pmayjr 09-02-2013 11:55 AM

I'm not ready to give up on him at longer distances either. I'd just like to see one more time at longer. Especially with Pletch willing to still try a mile and a quarter with Cross Traffic. Why not give Verrazano one more go?

But if not, are they saying dirt mile or turf mile with him?
