I've known Dave, too, for a few years and seen him around the country at different events/contests. Really hoping he holds on to win. He is one of the co-owners of Golden Moka.

They had two horses run over the weekend at GP as well, and I was wondering if he had bet them, cause neither ran well.

I think you have to pass that race if you have ownership within a contest race.

Looks like Michael Beychok (TS qualifier from Baton Rouge) won on the nightcap at Golden Gate to nip Flanzman by pennies..

Yes.. Learned that on Friday from Jerry McClenin who stable manages for Paul Pompa. They were in the AQU 2nd today and you have to declare from participation.

DRF saying he won by $1.

Scav 01-28-2012 07:53 PM

I cant believe he lost by $1, i feel so bad for him

Arletta 01-28-2012 08:12 PM

That's gotta hurt. How much did that $1 make a difference in prize money?

The winner made a very gutsy bet in the last race. If the horse drop to 5-2 instead of 3-1, he gave himself no chance to win the contest even if his horse wins. I give him tons of credit.

Paul Shurman, the tour winner, finished sixth and was in it until the end as well, making for a very exciting finish.

As for me, well, this sport can be a very humbling game...

Thanks everyone for the good wishes.

Paul

Steve and all the Derby Trailers,

Thanks for the good wishes.

This was so much fun - would have been nice to leave with a better score, but no complaints here.

The fun kicked off Thursday night when everyone involved with the tournament was invited to a premiere of LUCK at Mandalay Bay. Really cool. Hoffman, Nolte and the other cast members were there.

Then the tournament started. Had a chance to meet Steve Davidowitz and tell him how much I appreciate his weekly gig on At The Races. In fact, I think he did pretty well in the tournament this weekend. Haven't run it to Rich Eng yet but hope to before this is over.

Just a great experience - I certainly appreciate DeeTee Stables and the show for helping this newbie improve his game. Still a long way to go but I hope to make it back to this tournament in the future.

Ouch! Since he is, by far, the highest roller at Arlington, that million would have just about covered his action for the week.
